Quick G8.1 Texture Question you might know
When I load up Victoria 8.1 everything loads in fine and works great. However, when I then add any kind of volumetric atmosphere prop, like the ones included in Cloudscape Creator or Streets of the Wild West I lose the mouth textures (gums and tongue). They just go full black.
IF I convert the character to UBER shader than regular G8F textures work fine. Specifically, though, I'm trying to use Victoria 8.1...
Does anybody else see this issue?
EDIT... I just found a workaround. If you select the volumetric atmosphere prop in the scene tab and lower the cutout opacity by .00001 everything works. SO, that works enough for me. THank you for your time! I'll leave this here in case anybody else sees this issue and doesn't know what to do, though :)

Just so you know, Aiko 3 is not a Genesis 3 character. Yes, it's confusing.
Long story short, the generations are
1) Generation 1
2) Generation 2
3) Generation 3 (Victoria 3, Michael 3, Aiko 3, Hiro 3, The Freak...)
4) Generation 4 (Victoria 4, Michael 4, The Kids 4, as well as add-on characters like Aiko 4, Hiro 4, The Freak 4... )
5) Genesis (add-on characters like Victoria 5, Michael 5, Aiko 5, ...)
6) Genesis 2 (add-on characters like Victoria 6, Michael 6, Aiko 6, ...)
7) Genesis 3 (add-on characters like Victoria 7, Michael 7, Aiko 7, ...)
8) Genesis 8 (add-on characters like Victoria 8, Michael 8, Aiko 8, ...)
9) Genesis 8.1 (add-on characters like Victoria 8.1, Michael 8.1, ...)mortonmccastle said:

I'm making some NPCs for my game using daz characters and i cant seem to find what to dreess them with, all i have is hot skirts, club dresses, hot dresses cause that's all i got cause that's all i find in Renderosity and daz . And the things that are like gardening cltohes that came with daz i think, were so cheap they creeate poke through so easy when sent to Unity via DTU bridge, so that's why i can't use those.
You mostly have to resort to using period women's outfits from the 20's, 30's, 40s, 50s, & 60s. There is quite a bit of that for Victoria 4 & Genesis, with lesser amounts for Genesis 2, Genesis 3, Genesis 8, & Genesis 8.1.
The good news is most of the the women's (and mens' if you're not trying to dress up a viking or Conan type character) clothing products for Victoria 4/Michael 4 & Genesis is DAZ+ (was PC+) and costs $1.99 per product if you are in the DAZ+ Club.
To use you just fit to load a Genesis base character, add each clothing piece & answer the autofit dialogue if it was a Victoria 4/Michael 4 clothing piece originally, load a base Genesis 2 character, change the clothing pieces you fitted on the base Genesis character to the base Genesis 2 character (by using parent in the Scene tab for a particular item of clothing and then choosing from autofit popup dialogue the version of the base Genesis character that it was already fitted to when prompted (could be Victoria 4, Michael 4, Genesis, Genesis 2 Female, Genesis 2 Male, Genesis 3 Female, Genesis 3 Male, Genesis 8 Female, Genesis 8 Male, Genesis 8.1 Female, or Genesis 8.1 Male), and then you load a base Genesis 3 character and again in the scene tab choose the item of clothing you want to refit currently fitted on a base Genesis 2 character and parent it to the base Genesis 3 character, and repeat the process all the way to the base Genesis 8.1 character and then applyt the morph dials for the particular Genesis 8.1 character you intend to use (technically you can use that character instead of the base Genesis 8.1 character and similarly for the earlier versions of Genesis).
Sounds like a great tip and work around. Is there anything similar that would work with using a M4 or V4 or Genesis pose with a later Genesis character?

Genesis 8 Starter Essentials has clones for all the previous generations of Genesis figures, no need to go through all the generations in between.
Genesis 8.1 is the same as Genesis 8 when it comes to wearables, so when you get the clothing fitted to Genesis first, you can skip all the intermediate generations and fit it to Genesis 8 next. How to Dress Women who are not young Sexy girls, if the Majority of clothes is aimed at sexy?nokoteb99 said:

The scale is definitely wonky - proper measurements
Height 9' 8"
Length 18' 11"
Top wing span 23' 7"
Mid wing span 20' 5"
Bottom wing span 18' 6"
The wheels are just under 28 inches (710 mm) from the reference material I dug up.

Is their a way to change skin color?symson said:
Is their a way to change skin color on the Genesis 2 or 3 females?
I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd weigh in. I'm sure there are other ways to do accomplish various skin tones. However, I have found this method to be the most effective so far. This assumes that you are using Hollywood Boulevard workspace Genesis 2, Victoria 6 or Michael 6. However, it likely works with others as well.
First, if you want a fairly realistic skin color, search for and download at least three high quality images of people with the skin color you seek. Generally, the less "glam" the better.
Next, open these images in Photoshop or some other photo editing app. Select the eye dropper tool and for each image:
1) Click on an area of the skin that is evenly lit and does not have make-up. (NOTE: Doing a, say, 5 x 5 average will generally yield better results than point selection)
2) Write down the decimal RGB values for the selected color.
3) Once you've done this for 3-4 photos, take the average of each RGB value by adding the 3-4 values together for each and dividing by the total number of values used. This will be the "base" skin color.
Switch to Daz Studio and:
1) Select your character in the Scene tab on the right.
2) Select the Surfaces tab on the left and click the Editor tab in the upper left.
3) Click the arrow next to your character on the left and select Skin.
The following attributes might appear in a different order depending on which character you are using. So, you can change the order in which you do the following if you like.
4) Double click the Ambient Color. You can play with this one a bit, but I use a very light, warm gray (ex 235 232 223) for light skinned characters.
Funnily enough, I just started working on a dark skinned character today (12-24-21). However, I haven't edited skin color yet.
5) Change the ambient strength to between 6% and 12%. Whatever looks best to you.
6) Double click the Diffuse Color. This is your "base" color. Thus, enter the value you calculated using the method above.
7) Change the Diffuse Strength to between 85% and 95%. Again, whatever looks best to you.
8) Double click the Specular Color and enter the "base" value again. (Don't close it yet)
9) Adjust the color so that it is slightly darker than the "base". Copy this value.
10) Change the Specular Glossiness to about 88%. You can go a little higher or lower. Adjust by tenths if necessary.
11) Change the Specular Strength to between 6% and 12%.
12) Double click the Specular 2 Color and paste the copied value. (Again, don't close it.)
13) Adjust the color so that it is slightly lighter than the first Specular Color. You can go slightly lighter than the Diffuse if you want. (Whatever looks best)
14) I leave the Specular 2 Glossiness at the default (85%), but you can adjust it if you like.
There are other parameters under Spec 2 that you can play with, but they are not directly related to color (i.e. Index of Refraction, Shading Rate and Shading Scale). Thus, I'm leaving them out of this tutorial.
15) Copy the first Specular Color.
16) Double click Subsurface Color and paste the copied value. (Don't close it.)
17) Adjust the color so that it is slighly darker and maybe a little warmer.
18) Change the Subsurface Strength to between 25% and 35%.
19) Change SSS Material Type to Skin A/B. Whichever looks best to you.
20) Assuming that they have On/Off switches (sometimes they don't), make sure that Ambient, Diffuse, Specular, Specular 2 and Subsurface are all turned On.
Let me know if you have any questions. I'll do my best to answer them.

Just tried with dress and hair and, to my surprise, seems to work fine too. But, in this case I didn't get any bone in the clothes layer when I merged rigs, so other cases may not be this lucky. So what I did is save the poses for the basic G8F figure, then apply the poses to Victoria 8 with dress and hair.
Again, it is essential to use/select the same fk layers, otherwise the pose can't apply to layers/bones that are not selected. But this in your pictures it seems to me you do.
edit. As a side note, diffeo allows you to load the daz poses and animations directly from the daz library, so there's no really need to save them in blender format, other than for test purposes to play with the asset browser.
yea thats true i guess...i just really want this to work because i want to be able to animate with the same figure instead of importing a new figure in everytime. but oh well...maybe im asking too much of blender at this time.
Male Clothing Content Dead?Write Idea said:
No worries, I didn't plan to buy up their whole store
But 5$ just to have something to play around with is definitly worth it. Just watched a video by Jay Versluis using Marvelous Designer for creating a shirt and import it to DS. But only a fair weather demonstration so far. Also MD is subscription, isn't it? For a hobbyist like me not really a good option.
I'm not sure yet if I want to invest the time to build up the knowledge. Maybe export some existing clothing item to Blender, modify it there (slighty) and re-import it for a first try. I think I stumbled across a video explaining how to do that. It's really a bummer having to go that route, but yeah, obviously that's how the market works for minorities.
@P302: You're right, MD is a subscription based service. I purchased it a couple of years ago, so I have the program (without any updates). I'm also a hobbiest with hopes of becoming a PA. You can try MD free for 30 days (that's what I did before I purchased it, cos I wanted to make sure it was the right program for me). Give it a shot. Watch the tutorials before you start your free trial, though! If you do purchase clothing from ArtStation and conform them to the male figures, just be aware of dangly stuff. Those will get rigged to other parts of the figure. It's easy to adjust it with weight mapping and such, but just watch videos on how to do it. But like you said, it does take time to invest into learning how to do it.
How much is Marvelous Designer? This could be an option for me rather than going the rigging and (proper) conforming route with Daz.
@MelissaGT: It went from whole purchase to monthly subscription in MD9, I believe. I have MD8. I'm not sure if they sell older versions by themselves. It's $39 a month for it. For the full program, back in the day, I believe I paid around $400 (when it was on sale). It's a great program! The great thing about MD is it works well with DS, you just have to know the little things to make it work properly (plus you can make the clothing have thickness!). Importing figures into MD is easier than importing garments. I haven't had a lot of luck with important garments, then again I haven't really fooled around with it that much.
What you do is...
1) Load your figure in DS with the default pose
2) Export your figure as OBJ
3) Pose your figure in DS with desired pose
4) Export your figure as OBJ
5) Load your default posed figure in MD (this program calls them avatars)
6) Load the garment on your defaault posed figure (when you purchase clothing from ArtStationed made in MD for DS figures, they all should have the default pose set up - mostly)
7) Load your posed figure as a morph target (this will move the default figure into the desired pose)You will have to do some tugging and editing on the clothing cos to make it drape properly cos the morph target doesn't work like DForce does. I don't have the technical vocabulary to properly explain it. When you see it, you'll know what I'm talking about.
And the best part of MD is you can simply edit male clothing into female clothing (as long as you have Genesis 8 Cross-Figure Resource. If you need help on how to do that, just let me know.
I know I've all ready said this, but I LOVE your artwork. You recommending me Fabiana's Theory of Light set really up'd my artistic game, so thank you a million times over! If you need any help with MD, please let me know! :)
I do have the Cross-Figure Resource kit and have had varying levels of success with converting male clothing. I've noticed that it's better to just use the base female model to work on rather than add the complexity and distortion of any characters (not even Victoria). It's ok...the base female model looks good with clothes on. The shoulders seem to get the worst of it when converting.
I'd like to try the free trial for Marvelous Designer, but it appears there is a really good sale on the yearly membership for the holidays...I wonder if I should jump on it. $196/year is way better than $39/mo. I don't mind spending the $196 if I use it. (I said that about spending $850 on ZBrush and I don't use it, lol.)
And I'm so glad you like my artwork...it's wonderful to hear because it took me a long time to figure out my own style. And yes, Fabiana's lighting kits helped me so much and I still use them a lot, with my own tweaks.

Just did a little test and seems to work fine here. You must be sure to select the same bones when saving and loading poses. As a personal note I don't like too much how the pose library is managed because you have to save the whole scene with it, but the addon gets a warning symbol that's in development so hopefully things will improve.
steps:
- import G8F, merge rigs and make all bones posable
- convert to rigify
- save some poses in the asset browser, then copy from current file to user library to share them with different scenes
- new scene
- import Victoria 8, merge rigs and make all bones posable
- convert to rigify
- apply the previous saved poses to Victoria 8
Doesn't work for me. Character stays in A pose the whole time. I just don't get it...all the bone names are the same too...
No computer here the next weeks to cross check, but can you pose the armatures by hand? once I forgot to make the bones poseable... once i forgot to change the prefix / suffix of the bones... there are various reasons why the pose can fail. What can you see in the console window?
yes all bones can be posed using the rigify rig, its not on rest position, prefix and suffix are all the same i double checked this one. so im not sure what else is the problem besides this being a limitation of the software. the only pose that ive saved and is working on 1 other character was a pose made in blender. so im now starting to think daz imported poses cannot be saved in blender nor can it be applied to other characters in blender.
