  • Ow, I have an eyelash stuck in my eye! (Solved)

Well darn, wish I had known that earlier, LOL. But I have pretty much given up on Headshop anyway because of other issues. Have you tried opening your character's mouth? You get a nasty surprise as the morph dial goes higher! And for fun, turn off the limit on the morph, and then turn it way up and watch what happens.

I'll let you discover what happens.

I think you can use the X-Morphs product to help isolate stop that somewhat. I can't recall if that worked or not. And actually, now that I think about X-Morphs could also help with the eyelash too, though that is a moot point now.

Outrider42, this is all very entertaining, but most people are not looking to find new ways to distort the head but to make it work. The recommended setting is between 0 and 100. And yes, you can crank it up to 300 or 400 but why would you do that?

  • Tennessee for G8M

Yeah, I agree with everyone's points on the "not-really-native-american-looking", BUT - maybe you can use bits of one and parts of another. Some of those skins and makeups on the right morph-mixed figures could help.  <shrug>  I spent three summers on the Tulalip Tribe just outside of Seattle, Washingon as a teenager working on a fishing boat with my brother-in-law and have a handful of nieces that are half native. I agree with nonesuch00 and Wonderland  and I don't claim to be an expert by any stretch, but in the same way you can't claim that all white people look the same, or all blacks, or Asians, you see a huge swath of diversity in Natives too. That said, there are stereo-typical traits in ANY race that help identify it as such. This Tennessee character is AWESOME and the PA should be applauded.  I would love to see more and would probably buy them all. Would love some authentic apparel and accessories too. (What is in the store is fairly dated as far as materials and quality).  I've done a couple of test renders with Tennessee and am eager to get some morph-blends going on.  He is an exciting figure artistically.

  • Morphs on base models G3

All right. Before removing "all" morphs {cause some are normally pretty good to keep}, would you clarify what you mean by "messed up"? Some characters do call for other morphs in their make-up.

It might be only one morph that needs to be removed, adjusted or replaced.

For major surgery: To fix the morphs:
Go to your Product Library and download the Genesis 3 Essentials Female and/or Male packages.

There are a few folders with morphs in them.

    The base collection is:

    data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 3\Female\Morphs\DAZ 3D {if these are what need fixing, copy in the new files}

Any additional morphs, presumably the ones you want to remove, should be in folders NOT under this 2nd folder of DAZ 3D.

    data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 3\Female\Morphs\Other Name(s) {I would suggest backing them up into a zip folder in case you change your mind or need them again for some reason}

  • Thank you ZKuro

Finally! A jumpsuit that doesn't look painted on, doesn't have migrating holes in it, doesn't come open to the navel with no zipped up morph in sight, and actually looks like someone who wears such a garment in the line of work, (ether Sci-Fi or real world)  would actually *wear*.

And it isn't even dependent on dForce. The Iray only I can deal with. The sleve morphs are attractive and useful as well.

    Thank you again.

The ears on Head 1 are oddly long. At first, I thought I had an issue with my installation, but that's the way it looks in the promos as well (image below). I wonder why? I tried using Gauged Ears on him to fill the space, and that did not go At All Well.

    Tennessee ears

The lobes are long probably because the ears were pierced with things similar to the nose bone in the product promos. Native Americans used all kinds of decorations, including ear piercings. I'm not sure which one it is - it might even be the base morphs - but I have a morph to change the size of the lobes and I used that on the last image I did of Tennessee where I mixed him with Christian by turning limits off and dialing it backward.

Yes, my ears are doing that as Fishtales says but not to that degree. Even has creases in one of them like I used to wear a heavy earring like a pirate or something. Nope, neither were ever even pierced.. I'm like, "Yuck! What is that going on with my ears?" Cartilage in the nose keeps growing too. More in men than in women. You'll often see old men & old women caricaturized with big noses and big ears because it's fairly common. Some are lucky though and the growth isn't so much.

  • Ow, I have an eyelash stuck in my eye! (Solved)

Woah! Lots of good info @outrider42. I'm trying that now.

To the previous comments, I did not find any autofollow settings to change on the eyelashes.

Not the lashes, the morph you created. Click on the little cog wheel on the upper right to open the parameter settings, there is a check box for auto follow.

Argh! I wish I had found that sooner. This seems to work without the Hexagon detour. In both cases, it was necessary to unfit the eyelashes, then refit them. Since the HS plugin is creating the morph, why didn't it set autofollow on, I wonder?

The reason is that it is DAZ that had one morphloader (Morph Loader Pro) set on autofollow as a default, but the other (Morph Loader Advanced) is not. We have no controll about this.

So, this says that HS is using Morph Loader Advanced, not Morph Loader Pro, correct? Setting autofollow on the whole figure might have unintended consequences. Setting it on the morph dial after it is loaded is an acceptable workaround. One thing I haven't tried yet is to see if setting HS not to dial in the new morph when it is created, then setting autofollow on the new morph, then dialing it in. I need to try this later to see if this avoids the need to unfit and refit the eyelashes. Either way, it's not much effort to work around.

  • Ow, I have an eyelash stuck in my eye! (Solved)

"This is a known issue with Headshop, at least I know of it, and wrote about it in my review of Headshop. I complained about this the moment Headshop 11 released, and I see it has not been fixed yet. Hmmm. The bad news is there is no way to fix this inside Daz Studio. This is NOT about auto follow or anything like that. Whatever Headshop does, the morph it creates will never ever follow the shape. This is more than just the eyelashes being effected. Other things are effected as well, like how the model will wear hair and any fitted head props. It is as if Daz has no indication the morph has changed.

Any conforming prop you apply will act as if it is on the default G8 head, not your new morph!

BUT, there is a way to fix it. The way to fix it is by exporting the head morph out of Daz to another app, and the import the morph back. The easiest way is to just use the Hexagon bridge from Daz. If you have ever used the Hexagon bridge before, that would help a lot and you should know what to do. If you have not used it, it is not hard at all. Using the bridge means you do not have to worry about all of the export/import settings like you would if you exported the OBJ out for Blender or something. Also, you do not need to do any modeling or sculpting. Unless you just really want to.

Anyway, here is what you do.

So in a fresh clean scene, load the Genesis 8 Dev Load model. The Dev Kit is not the same as Genesis 8, it loads without lashes and a couple common morphs (like the navel). The Dev Kit is included with the G8 Starter Essentials if you don't have it somehow.

Dial in your Headshop morph. Now send to Hexagon.

You do not need to do anything in Hexagon. Before taking the next step, switch back to Daz and reset your G8 figure. If you did use the dev load, then all you need to do is dial the head morph back to 0. If you feel confident you can also use Edit Mode to delete the Headshop morph completely from Daz. You don't have to though. But I would, because you'll never use it again.

Now  switch back to Hexagon, select send to Daz. You are done with Hexagon now.

You should see a pop up in Daz. You want to save this as a morph. If you deleted the Headshop morph before you sent back the Hexagon head, then you can use the same name. But if you did not delete the morph, then you need to make the name different in some way. You can pick the location of the morph. Make sure to click reverse deformations and switch it on.

After that, you'll get the new morph, and you will find that when you apply eyelashes they work correctly.

However, you still need to save this new morph, so save it as a morph asset.

It might sound like a lot, but it really isn't. Its like a minute or two tops, and most of that is waiting for stuff to load.

One last thing, its not necessary but it is a good practice, to perform 'adjust rigging to shape' before saving it.

Doing this will fix 100% all of the issues I mentioned."

Pls. do not use Outrider42's method! There is a much easier fix that corrects a Studio ommission, that the "Fit to Mode" is NOT set to Autofollow as a default.

You need to set the "Fit to Mode" to Autofollow!! Studio will not do this automatically, you have to do this before launching OneClick2 or HeadSHop.

Once you changed Fit to Mode, the eyebrows will follow the morph.

Another way to do this is to click on the little wheel on the top right corner of the morph which will bring up a "Parameter Setting" for the morph. Click on Autofollow and click Accept.

  • It's not exactly raining men....
Yeah I'm really sad about the popstar outfit. I really like that this is a high quality outfit. I love the realistic look of the pants. But I know already I will never render the pants tucked in the boots as intended by the design of this outfit and I don't think it has morphs to correct this look. Also, unlike other pants I've purchased I don't think I can mix this by creating a custom morph myself without completely hijacking the UV layout and the texture ... and also of course I have no use for the hair.

Yeah my recurring dilemma I can't solve. I want to support quality male content because I want to help encourage PAs creating more of them. But then this also means I shall buy content that I have no use for ... it's so tricky.

  • is there a Face Transfer thread
After realising the plugin exists I only had one hour to "play" with it yesterday. I only had some not so well lit images to play with. My first impression is, it has ... Potential The face textures created are IMHO better than the ones I get from the other 2 face\head plugins. (using same images) I think it reads the eye color from the image. But the head\face shape ..... Nice, but there is room for improvement. With the front AND side image approach the other plugin uses you get better shapes. The lips and mouth region is IMHO just flat with this face transfer.

I just bought this and the Face Transfer Shapes for Genesis 8 which is supposed to correct the flattened side views and add more realistic morphs. I played with it last night in the free version and the results are cool. I will practice with photos that have flat lighting to avoid skin aberrations, and I will take higher resolution photos. Also, I think no expressions will work best in the long run. I am excited to use this so I can 3d my whole fam...I am going to make myself a god or a superhero!!!

  • Head + Body Slider Control Wonky.

In your case, KD, you were trying to add the cards to pose/expression sliders which DAZ Studio does not support, thus the need to go the alias route. In pfunkyfize's case he is trying to attach the cards to a morph slider, which DAZ Studio does support (I do it all the time). So the reason why they are not "sticking" in his case may be different than what you were dealing with. The alias solution may work, but something else must be wrong if they aren't working for him without going that route. As I say, I have never had a card fail to be retained once the morph asset was properly saved and I've done it hundreds of times. Pfunkyfize: when you add the cards to the morph sliders properties, are you resaving the morph asset? You mention resaving the character preset - that won't save the new morph slider properties because until that is complete, the character preset will use the unaltered version of the slider. Just as you originally did, you must save the morph asset first. If the morph asset save completes without any warning messages or errors appearing, but the card still isn't appearing in your slider when you reload, I suspect that it is being saved, but in the wrong location, thus preserving and not replacing the original. Check in explorer by doing a search for the .dsf file and see if you get more than one result. If two show up in different locations, one with the original time stamp and one with a more recent time stamp, you need to copy the more recent one to the proper location to overwrite the original, then delete the misplaced file.

  • V8 (and others) texture improvement discussion

Some personal thoughts on the examples in my large G3 comparison above. Let me know what you think if you have time.

Bethany 7 is a decent texture, lip specular needs fixing though.
Ceridwen's eyes are really detailed, but the skin could probably benefit from better SSS and maybe some Skin Builder details.
Disappointing how similar Elisse and Hannah are, I do like Elisse's face morph though.
Joline has some nice details, but I have no idea what's going on with her nose. Crazy normals or intentional?
I like Lien's eyelashes and it's a pretty good Asian morph too.
Marianne is a good very pale texture, but those starburst eyelashes may have to go.  ;)
I think Olympia looks too pink by default, but I really need to check and see if she has a custom SSS map that lets more light in on the ears, hands, and such than on thick skin. That could be very useful on other characters.
Tara has good eyes, need to try the other colors.
Are Victoria 7's earlobes supposed to be that crinkly?
