Looking to commission G8M custom head
Hi,
I'm looking to commission two custom head morphs for the Genesis 8 Male. I've tried and tried with the morph dials in Daz Studio but I'm just not getting anywhere close. I've seen TritiumCG's commission offer and their results look great, but they only seem to do female morphs.
If anyone has links to artists who do commissions for G8M, I would really appreciate it!
Bear Clan for Genesis 8 Female [commercial]The model morph looks fantastic. I have Bear Clan for Genesis 8 male so I plan to get this in the very near future.
I have only one minor annoyance when it comes to the character morph. The Feet. Why are they standing on the balls of the feet? When a Bear rises up and stands on there back legs the hind paws are flat to the ground. Even when they are on all fours the hind paws are still flat on the ground. I wish there was an choice option between flat foot and ball of the foot.daz bridge to maya doesnt export pose properlyhttps://helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360046688951-FAQs-for-Maya-Bridge
Should I pose/add textures in Studio, or in Maya?
- It’s not recommended that you pose before exporting, as that will likely cause certain features to break. You can add textures in Studio before transfer, or continue to texture your character in Maya after the transfer.
There is a dedicated Maya forum herehttps://www.daz3d.com/forums/categories/maya-discussion
oh :( posing was one of the reasons why id want to use bridge for
The New FBX is Massive in SizeThe New FBX is Massive in SizeThe exporter exports a lot of morphs, these are then duplicated for all meshes, if you look at the imported pose morphs, each morph is usually in the character, the hair and each cloth so item even if it is not used there, they eat a lot of memory, first thing is to delete all you do not need (notice that you must delete both the morph itself and the target mesh) and then you can convert them to relative instead of absolut and you get a more realistic size of the project.
JoeQuick appreciation - simply the best. The produxt description seem sto imply that.
- Head Morph Dial
- Body Morph Dial
So, yeah, one have a bit more selective control.
Sincerely,
Bill
Poses / Animations converted back to V4 in poser?Hi everyone,
I was trying to transfer some poses / animation from G3M/F or G8M/F back to Victoria4 in Poser.
Now there are couple of tools out there to convert G2 / G3 pose to G8. (and vice versa). But to get victoria 4 into the party, there seems to be limited article about it.
Although I can open a victoria 4 in daz studio, and apply a pose / animation based on G3F on her, I am not sure if that V4 can be imported into Poser somehow.
Has anyone come across this topic or have some suggestions?
Many thanks in advance :)
Poses@Krampus The #get pose command seems not officially supported by daz and as you discovered yourself it doesn't work fine anyway.

Poses will not successfully transfer to Blender.
Missing files warning when loading Genesis 8 FemaleOdds are they are like that for everybody and not just you.
You could try reporting them, but that leaves the problem of figuring out which is a bug and which isn't, and that is probably why no one else has reported them, they basically don't have a clue what they are looking at.
I should add that I don't just mean the general user base, vendors and DAZ staff are just as guilty IMHO.Right lets look at the those warnings.
First up Virtual_World, all of those warnings point to a VWLashes, so a quick check of their store and you will find they have a "Great Lashes for G8F" product, and for their Andrea character it's listed as a required product. So if you don't have that eyelash product then those warnings aren't bugs, just missing product reports.
The rest of them are bugs of one sort or another.
Most of Handspan's I'll put down to DAZ making changes after the products were made, however Eryn does have an issue where two of the MCM's can't find the head morph.
The character Sisi looks to have been built on a "fully loaded" G8F, rather than on a bare minimum in a separate content directory, as a result an active genital morph from a Renderotica product was linked during the ERC freeze for the body morph. Funny part is that Sisi is a DAZ Original, so not one of them has spotted that little mistake.
The rest are Product X can't find a file/property in the same product, basically changed the name of a folder/file/property after doing an ERC freeze, and didn't bother checking they hadn't buggered up any thing, mind you DAZ QA should get some of the credit too, after all those products wouldn't have gotten into the store with bugs if they had been doing their job right.
Scary part is if I owned those products. notepad++ and 20 minutes of my time would have fixed all of those warnings, but then I've been fixing cockups in DSON files since Genesis 1, so it's pretty much second nature for me.
SereneNight's Sci-Fi Fun Thread 2EJ Argos is a very nice recently released figure. he comes with several facial hair options, including goatee, soul patch, and mustache. He also includes a very nice hair, with many different color options. There are multiple skin tones, all fairly light-skinned. He has an included wet skin option, and his own elements preload. There area couple tattoos as well.
First things first, he has some fairly strong normals on his face, which give him a permanent scowl, which I felt impacts his expression. You can easily remove the normals, and replace them with another character's or tone them down if you want him to look younger. Since he has no wrinkles anywhere else, it does look a bit odd to have that many lines just only on his face.
His included elements is unusual, but you can attach them, and then reapply the skin, if you need to. The wet skin looks really good and it is easy to apply and remove.Unfrotunately the wet skin... It does not apply to the genitals at all I'm not sure why.. am I missing something? .
Three is the default load, and an "apply extra details" morph.
There are included 10 poses to go with the figure, and a ton of partials. He has a great masculine hairline!
I like this figure. It has a lot of detail, and will be great for kitbashing.

Feedback for the C4D BridgeFinished the tut quicker than I thought I would. In this tutorial, I explain how to eliminate the massive file bloat that C4D's fbx importer creates. When C4D imports a DAZ fbx, it imports every single facial morph as a target MESH instead of a collection of point deltas (a "standard" pose morph). This bloat in turn drives pose morph slider performance into the ground, not to mention gives you a ridiculously and unnecessarily large file.
The test file this time went from 3.06gb to just 25mb (!!!!!) That's a 99.2% reduction!
Hope this proves useful to everyone. I would recommend saving a backup copy of anything you try it on until you get the hang of it and are sure you are happy with the results. You want to be precise since you're deleting things, after all.
EDIT: (Updated image to include a step that will affect those of you who don't convert every morph).
Thanks for this tip. As a relatively low technical knowledge animation amateur I found this very helpful. I knew the file bloat [good way of putting it] was due to morphs but had no idea how you might rectify and still use DAZ morphs. There is a lot of good information here which I am trying to stumble through. Thanks to all contributors for lending their minds to the forum.
Stop putting heels on everything!Video is here. Someone may want to fix the code on the product page so that the video displays properly...
It's a pretty flexible outfit. I don't like the fact that the high heels don't have a 'fat heel' option, it just becomes more 'stilletto-ey' as you increase the heel length, but at least that might be close enough where I could cobble together a fatter heel if I wanted a high heel option in the first place. Others are obsessed with stillettos, of course, so that's pretty cool.
They really should play up that adjustable heel in the promo text, for people that aren't going to bother to watch the video.
As for the promo pics, the only images where you can make out the heels (i.e. not a front view) are showing high heels, so I wouldn't have inferred the low heeled option either if I had not read this thread. A lot of people will just look at the pretty pics as the promo text is usually just a bunch of blah blah so they won't bother reading it. Sure, you should read the fine print, but who has the time?
It's a pretty cool outfit overall, and someone should fix the code on the page for the video window.
If you stop the morph at the fat heel and thicken the sole it kinda works.
"Blade Runner's" Rachael head INJ files. See page 3. Face texture added.Nice font. So Heavy Metal.
I see you are very much a proponent of translating the V/M4 head morph info to the genesis figures. I understand your point. They are the standard now and they have more capabilities than the legacy figures. That makes sense to me.
As Jean-Luc would say: "Make it so!" LOL
A list of products which have Footwear with Adjustable Heel HeightsThis thread is for informational purposes only, for people that may be interested in products that have boots/shoes/sandals with adjustable heel heights, or that may have multiple heel height options for said footwear.
So, thanks to someone mentioning it in another thread today, I am now aware of a third product that features shoes/boots with an adjustable heel height, and also a 'platform shoe' adjustment morph. Here are the three products that I know of that have adjustable heels. There may be others, these are the ones I am aware of atm.
Footwear with heel and sole Adjustment Morphs:

The products above also have other adjustment morphs, such as 'platform shoes,' 'round or pointed toes', and a few others. Check the product page for more info and/or videos showcasing such functionality.
Footwear with multiple sole and upper options, with varying heel heights:

BTW, the purpose of this thread is to showcase products which have adjustable heel length morphs built in to the product, for those that might be interested in such things. The subject of the merits of high vs. low heels has been discussed ad nauseum in other threads, and that is not the purpose in this thread (it is what it is). Please refrain from such discussions in this thread, in the interest of keeping this thread on point.
Also, the subject of modding the heel height yourself using various tools and methods has been discussed in other threads as well. THIS thread is about products where heel height adjustment morphs have already been built in to the product.
If anyone else knows of any other products that includes footwear with adjustable heel lengths, post them up and I'll add them to the OP (crediting you approprirately)!
Also, if anyone is aware of a product(s) that may include footwear that has two or more heel length options, say both high heeled and low heeled versions of the same shoe/boot/sandal included in the same product, feel free to call those out as well, and Ill add them to a (separate) list in the OP. I'm personally not aware of any such products, but others may have seen this.
Thanks in advance!
Cheapest PC to run Daz Studio decently? That image was rendered and post-processed in Blender on a Threadripper 1950x CPU, which is faster than my 980ti. It uses all Daz assets. I use the Diffeomorphic plugin to transfer items and it also converted the hair to a particle system (similar to strand hair in Studio). How do you configure your materials? Do they come in ok?
They do come in; the plugin creates a character ready to pose; you can import Studio ones, or you can create your own; you can also import it ready posed, but then importing Studio ones would be problematic.
The materials there are my own; I used Agenesis 2 in studio so wanted to get a similar look. I didn't want to re-create the same materials, that seemed like a hastle to me, just the look.
I'm still tweaking but pretty happy with how it stands now.
Help an autistic out: is Joe Quick's "teddy bear" supposed to be creepy? It does not look so creepy to me...
I think you need a couple brown beer bottles there, bud. Ted doesn't drink alone! :)
Can the eyebrows be made invisible? I think those are what I do not like....
If they're geometry, then you would need either a morph or a geograft to remove them. Otherwise, you would just put a hole in his forehead.
This morph is listed:
Brows Inflate/Deflate
https://www.daz3d.com/teddy-bear-for-genesis-8-male
Deflate to inivisbility? I wouldn't know unless someone tried. Here's another morph:
Muzzle More/Less Round
A rounded muzzle should make his face look more cheerful.Pet peeveHeh, need to have insane morph where the thighs open like Robocop's do to put away his gun.
"Blade Runner's" Rachael head INJ files. See page 3. Face texture added. Thanks for pointing the trademark issues out, Catherine. I'm not sure - if I don't make a cent off my work is it still illegal to post someone's likeness? I've seen plenty of Deckard and Han Solo busts floating around the Internet. They can be downloaded by anyone. I am thinking now of TOSHI-TNE's work available on cults3d.com website. He has Han Solo and Princess Leia and... Rachael too! They are there for free and it doesn't look like that is a problem. Don't the problems start when money gets involved? That's what I assumed.

So maybe as long as it's for free, it's a model of a movie character, not the actor or actress itself and is not used in commercial projects it is okay to post those likenesses. That's what I figured out. If I'm getting this wrong, will someone in the know correct me, please? I don't want to be slapped with a lawsuit.
I think it would be wonderful to be able to share my work with you, so you can use it "as is" or modify it as you please and make fun artwork that I would be happy to see. I was always the type that gives stuff away. LOL.
I hope the temperatures don't go wildly off the chart hot and you don't have to switch off your computers, Catherine. ;)
BTW, I have also seen my own "doppelganger" and boy was she similar. Just slightly older. She was a wife of a guy I used to work with. That was a totally weird experience, so I know what you mean.
Today I am tired, so Rachael's head might have to wait until tomorrow. We'll see.
Some things I've noticed while sculpting Deckard's head: his features are unusual. His chin is skewed, his lips are crooked in a strangely sensuous way, nose twisted and pretty wide, eyes small and deeply set yet the whole face is rather good-looking. Because of this asymmetry and odd features I don't think it would be possible to do a good Deckard likeness just playing with head morphing sliders. Too unique.
I've heard that people find beautiful faces that have features that are an average of the population's features. Deckard's face is definitely an exception here. :)
Not over people matters, but concerning a laser conversion project I was willing to do ... well I'm one of those nigdets that likes to go and seek permissions first. I've actually had a number of companies give me the green light, which was really cool of them. But the owners of Hans Solo, etc. are "not" so liberal minded. Nope. Now if nobody is making money, generally speaking it can be that it's not okay but it's tolerated to a point. However the Star Wars company is NOT as tolerate as say Paramount is. But then they are really into marketing their stuff everywhich way they can ... so they are, to my way of thinking, also wanting to guard themselves against competition. And money is money. I have no money. But if somebody has a business or money and is caught by certain companies redistributing 'their' work, they can decide it worth it you know. That is one of the reasons us freebie makers fill a nitch. Companies tend to avoid anything that could possibly take them down. And trust me, the pockets of the folk owning SW and ST are DEEP.
End result of my friendly discussion with the lawyer from SW was 'no' to fanart. Yes I know that there's is a lot out there. I also know over time that things disappear. Now 'why' they dont' like fanart is beyond my comprehension but I don't worry about. Life is too short. There are LOTS of doubles out there and I shall have fun :-)
You know, you might find modeling a morph for the Genesis male figure a lot easier than for M4. It's more 'elastic'. Just an idea. {and saving the morphs is also a lot easier}
UltraScenery [Commercial]The shader used for terrains in UltraScenery is pretty advanced and multi layered, as explained by the author,
so I doubt, it will be easy to transfer materials to Blender or any other program.
For the terrains, like UltraSceney, one need native solution for the target program.
Simple exporting will not work.
I thought as much; I am really hoping for native materials.
Given that this product makes heavy use of instancing (ie tens of thousands of them) then any script to move this to another product will need to support this as well, or you will end up with a huge amount of geometry.
And Blender does. If native materials are available, or the IRay materials convert well, it'd be worth it to write a tool to be run on the Blender side, sort of the opposite of Daz's Instance to Object tool.
Daz Studio and LinuxA good idea if you can afford it and might be lost without a particular heavy duty windows program, but in my experience, dual booting is never a longterm thing - people either get used to linux or go back to windows after a bit.
I expect you're right about favoring one over the others. I probably wouldn't think about it either, except that I blew my virus check on computer parts, and I now have a couple of extra parts. :-) That, and I just like building them.
I built a Linux box a couple of years ago, I liked it. It's simple and stable, and it networks well. The limitation on compatable graphics applications, though, turned me off from keeping it. Things have changed a bit since then, I'm thinking the limitations may be fewer. There are more "artist" distros around now. I do think W7 is living on borrowed time, and W10 is sent from hell, leaving Linux as the OS of the (near) future. Wine looks to me like mostly another resource-sapping level of complexity with less than 100% results - am I right?
Wine is improving fast - when i started using Daz at end 2016 (and hence looked at wine again, when I'd not used it since 2010 or so), it was just moving into version 2 (having been around since early 2000's, now it's on version 5.
Wine isn't emulating the entirety of windows in a VM, it's a compatibility layer, so there isn't the kind of resource sapping that a VM eating up memory and cPU cycles would have.
There sometimes are a few caveats running windows program on linux, Daz, for example, the sliders didn't work right for a long time, resulting in having to enter numbers manually, they began working with Wine 4 and Daz 4.11. GPU rendering is an issue, I find loading large saved scenes slightly undependable, and Wine sometimes has problems dealing with Windows multithreading.
Thanks for the update on Wine. I don't wish to commit to a work in progress, but you give me some cause for optimism. I've seen the recent Wine Compatability List. It's not as complete as I wish it was.
Your comments on DAZ's behavior in Wine don't exactly fill me with joy. Sometimes DAZ can be quirky even in Windows, and Nvidia's overall driver quality does not impress me. I'm not sure I would go down this road. Sounds like character development would work out OK, possibly animation, and of course DAZ is an excellent source of props and sets, but Blender or Unreal might be better for putting the pieces together. Hmm...
These days, all software is a work in progress. Yep, I've seen the Wine compatibility list, it's not as accurate as you'd hope. But there are a fair few applications that just won't run. Of other Daz software, Carrara and bryce are pretty much not runable on Wine - one doesn't run at all one will run, but the ui comes apart like a wafer biscuit. Hexagon works fine though.
Apart from the issues I've noted, Very little issues with rendering at all I much prefer to use the standalone 3Delight engine to render 3Delight renders (render to rib file with collect and localise), but the Iray engine works just fine in Wine - possibly more stable than the wine 3Delight engine.
Using the various plugins, (Diffeomorphic, mcjteleblender) it's possible to transfer scenes to blender to render - I've tried the McCasual script, but it was whane Cycles was fresh out, and the shaders were a little touchy in cycles, but blender render worked great. I know an artist on DA who used C4D with Daz assets. But all generally come with more workflow oddities which make the procedure more of a chore than just waiting for a slow CPU iray render.
The only real limit is your Memory, and if you want reliably GPU, a card with as much memory as poss. From what I've gathered ffrom Windows users experiences, I don't think Daz Studio on Linux crashes any more often than the Windows version.
To be honest, under Nvidias current mindset, I couldn't possibly recommend Nvidia GPU - Nvidias attitude to Linux is sucky, it seems unlikely that by the time Nvidia stops supporting any GPu you buy that OSS Nouveau driver will be ready to support it currently, the proprietary driver is fairly incompatible with the new Wayland display server still, and not great with Plasma desktop on X either...
A good CPU and lots of memory can do fairly well, with good enough renders inside even the default 1hr 40.
They are improving it, but Studio still is far too awkward and slow to do animations - both 3Delight and iray take ages - Studio needs a engine with the speed of eevee.
