  • How long does it take you to load G8F?

My times are in this comment:

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/6541996/#Comment_6541996

Summarized for this thread these are load times for the Genesis 8 Basic Female with varying numbers (the # column) of G8 characters (both F and M) visible to DAZStudio (and no other changes; all my other G8 content was visible).  The first number is for the first load after the DSON cache has been deleted, the second is for the second load when the DSON cache is fully populated.  All tests involved running a script to insert the character immediately after starting DAZStudio, times are in seconds:

      # no cache cached
    --- -------- ------
      0 17.075 10.919
     78 25.903 19.910
    636 100.807 91.726

If I remove most morphs, expressions, poses and wardrobe items (my setup has some morphs and a small number of expressions always installed), I get to 2.649s to load the character with the cache, 4.169s without.  The DSON cache saves between 1.5 and 10s, which is very significant for the base load time but ceases to be so as the load time increases.  Apart from the load time increase caused by extra characters there are significant increases for some other items.  The extra time over the 2.649s number is given below.  The first column is what I added for the test, the second column is the increase in load time (with the DSON cache):

    Add Extra time
    ----------- ----------
    Wardrobe +0.379
    Poses +0.833
    Expressions +1.644
    Morphs +4.009

I've got about 1250 wardrobe packages.  I've got 35 morph packages but 10 of them are in my base set (i.e. the figure for Morphs is just the for the additional 25 packages.)

    Here's the script:

    Scene.loadScene("[installation root directory]/People/Genesis 8 Female/Genesis 8 Basic Female.duf", Scene.MergeFile)

Copy that line into the "Script IDE" tab, edit the root directory, and hit Execute; the output window at the bottom contains both the log messages and (at the end) the load time.  I suggest using "Wire Frame" in the viewport; Filament takes several seconds to get up-to-speed after the load.

    TheKD said:

Render ing device should be on cuda or optix. If it's on none, it's gonna be thrashing the CPU.

I did that already, switched the render to Cuda and selected my GPU, it's not really rendering thats the problem though, it's when I try to show the materials preview. Like I said if I select render preview in cycles I have no issues, but if I do materiel preview (not render preview) that's where the problems begin. I can play around all day in render preview with zero issues. My question is why am I having this issues in material preview, and only when I transfer a character over from Daz Studio.

Now E.V.E Enhanced Virtual Entity HD for Genesis 8 Female

is forcing its shape on all 8 and 8.1 female figures.

the dsf file is encripted, so can't fix by editing.

The dsf file is just compressed and can be opened as an archive with 7-Zip, it's dhdm files that are encrypted and cannot be opened even by PA's once created.

Following this procedure, you don't have to edit anything manually.
    To fix any ill-behaving morphs, do as follows;

    1. Open DS and load "Genesis 8 Basic Female" (to an empty scene)
    2. Help->Troubleshooting->View Log File (clear the log, close it and select "Save" when asked)
    3. Left Click at "Active Pane Options" tab->Preferences->Choose "Show Hidden Properties" (part 4 zeroes only 'visible' dials)
    4. Right Click at Parameters Tab->Zero->Zero Figure (Zeroes the value of all the 'visible' dials)
    5. Right Click at Parameters Tab->Memorize->Memorize Figure (Sets the current value of all the dials as their default value)
    6. Edit->Save As->Support Asset->Save Modified Assets (Writes the changed default value to the morph files that were changed)

    When saving "Modified Assets" DS shows a dialog and asks for confirmation;
"The following file(s) will be permanently modified:" - "Accept/Cancel" - Choose "Accept"

Close DS and wait -> Open DS again and load "Genesis 8 Basic Female"

Help->Troubleshooting->View Log File (Save the logfile somewhere you can easily find it)

If the procedure doesn't help, the most likely cause is that you have the ill-behaving morph installed in several content libraries, but attach the saved log to your post with the "Attach a file" under the "Leave a Comment" window, that way we can have a look at it.

  • Domino HD for G3 & G8 Load errors

    Lyoness said:

Updates have gone out.  This problem should now be completely resolved

    Hi Lyoness,

I purchased the Domino product awhile back but I'm seeing some issues with it that I can't seem to resolve with a reinstall of the product. When I load up Either Domino or Thora GF8, no G8 clothing loads properly onto her. It seems to think I've actually loaded the G3 version and autofit gets confused and says it's not a supported product. Strange things seem to happen and I often can't load other products onto her such as makeup, etc. And clothing that I am able to get onto her doesn't act like normal (things like I can't unparent things like hats from her and move them independently within the scene.

Is this a problem others have encountered? Should I submit a support ticket? I love her and often want to use her, but she's become such an issue that lately I can only just use her morph shapes.

The 2.99 section today, though surprise

Do I need more stone shaders? No.
Can I resist such quality for such jawdropping prices? NO.

    Dolb is another ridiculous offer.
I probably won´t even get much use out of his morph or skin. But the hair and make-up alone are worth it for that price!
His HD might look good on other characters, too.

    OT: Websites

I'm going to mention something to webmasters which probably does not apply to 99.9% of you, but there is going to be a big change in Elementor for the number of sites you can do with the Expert plan. What you get today for doing a lot of websites, vs what you get tomorrow, is vastly different. However, if any of you are considering doing a website (I did them for 18 years, jumping back in) then you may be interested in some of this.

First, if you already have Wordpress (dot org) and if you have a website,  The Elementor plug in for doing more than 3 sites is changing. It's the Expert plan, and right now you can do 1,000 sites, tomorrow that is lowered to 25 sites. (and costs the same.)   I know I have several to do, plus my husband's and son's site, so I was over the 3 alloted by the next lower plan and have to get the Expert plan anyway. Might as well be able to do unlimited sites (for me, 1,000 is unlimited) instead of just 25 after the change at midnight..

The Elementor plug-in does have a one website plan and 3 website plan, and those prices aren't changing, so this won't affect most of you. Even doing 25 sites is more than most of us will ever do, including me at the moment LOL. But just in case, thought I'd mention it because some of you may go over 25 sites if you're a reseller or do it for others. If you're a reseller, you already know about this change in all likelihood.

Also, if you are planning on doing a Wordpress (dot org) site, Elementor looks like a lot of fun with the drag and drop capabilities. TONS of videos with cool tips. A lot of templates right out of the gate. And Envato has gorgeous animated templates which work with Elementor, and Elementor works with most of the free and paid Wordpress templates. Drag and drop, and change 'em up!

So this week I'm jumping in to the website stuff, but already having a problem just installing a theme I bought at Envato. Sigh. This is why I work on several things at once, so if I get held up waiting on a support request, I can just keep on working on other things. The theme I bought was Elipsa, look it up :)  It's a new release and I wanted an animated site. Quasar is also really cool!

Website host- I went with Bluehost again and was reminded immediately why I went with them the first time. I opened a chat request and got a great representative within fifteen seconds. Last night I had to call and instead of being on hold for 45 minutes (pair dot com) I got a representative in under a minute and a half. So if you're thinking about doing a website, I recommend Bluehost as they are a Wordpress provider which means the admin panel is set up for easy work within Wordpress.  CNN, Oprah, and Forbes are only a few of the websites using Wordpress.org  43% of all websites use it.

DO NOT USE WIX for a website. Right click, hit view source, and you get hundreds of lines of code with Wix promoted- and no meta tags or meta description mentioning YOU at all. The search engines prioritize coding which is efficient, and WIX "ain't it."  And Squarespace won't let you transfer your site or materials, so if they go out of business, your site is TOAST.

Elementor works within Wordpress to make the changes. (Haven't tried it yet, as I am waiting for the theme to get installed.) I'll be lucky if I have any sanity this week, trying to do technical stuff with Bluehost, Wordpress, Envato, and Elementor. Stay tuned.

I hope you didn't think I was trying to denigrate it, just trying to make a comment in a slightly amusing way. I know full well I can't do anything remotely as complex as that swimsuit - and the reason I know is that I'm utterly stumped by how on earth I'm going to model an athlete's lane sticker which is applied to the right thigh. I have a couple of ideas I'm going to test to find which (if any) works best, but I have no certainty any will work.

Just wondering, really, if on a future one it might be possible to have the strap from the waist to the side of the chest be modelled in a straight line so it doesn't conform so much to the figure shape. That would then distort if the figure is less generously endowed. And need a morph. Oh, it's all getting too difficult. I can see why you did it as you did. Novice applying foot to mouth.

    Regards,

    Richard.

I wanted to come back to this, it turns out the Smoothing Modifier feature built into Studio actually handles this reasonably well with minimal effort!

  • EXPORTING HIGH POLY MORPHS TO CINEMA 4D

I don't know about or use bridge but what options are you using for FBX, what steps and options are you taking exactly?

e: It doesn't look like exporting to FBX with Morph Targets checked actually works, although I can tell you that it works importing FBX from Cinema to DAZ Studio. It only exports the final shape used and even then doesn't treat that as a morph target, it converts it to the base geometry. You're correct also that it won't export the subdivided mesh, but you can at least add a subdivision generator once you import the figure into Cinema, that will give you pretty similar results in the end.

Maybe DAZ support will have better answers, sorry.

1.Unselect Genesis 8 Female, load dForce HS Lurys Sweater directly.

    2.Edit->Figure->Transfer Utility

    3. Source item is yor character, target item is sweater, uncheck weight map, click acept, done!

    Here is the vedio link:

I will add a G8F version to update. You can also wait for my update, but the QA of DAZ is very busy, I don't know how long it will take them to complete the test.

Morphs should now work @scobb3_60a649a03a thanks for being patient with me :)
Also added options so you can choose which morph you want at export. Currently, there is a checkbox for the morphs you most likely want. AND JCMs, the morphs are coming in but, there will be in need of more work on the morphs but, I hope this helps out some of you :)

Hey!  This is looking great!  I appreciate your hard work. It is working on my old Mac Pro(OSX10.13).. the ONLY thing I see that is still a big issue for me - the morphs are there before selecting auto IK.  After auto IK the morph tags disappear!  Any idea what would cause that?

(I've found a quick workaround.. if I copy the character before auto-IK, I can replace it after, with the original one (w morphs and expresso tag).  The only thing that's still not working after that - the eyelashes and tear shape are not following the morphs.)

Great to know. I tested it myself on my MacBook yesterday and I didn't see any issues but, I may be misunderstanding the issue with the morphs tags you're explaining. So, currently something I noticed that is happening with auto IK is that it's locking the morph tags. If you press the gear icon in the plugin window and press the lock icon it should unlock the tags to use the morphs.
Also, I was testing with the base genesis 8 male and the eyelashes were working. Is the issue you are seeing with Genesis 8.1? I can run some more tests this week but, any more reference to the problem would help. You can also open up an issue on our GitHub so I don't miss anything of what you mean.
    https://github.com/daz3d/DazToC4D/issues ;
Also, I was thinking of adding some more ease of use updates while I look into bigger updates is there anything else that would help speed up your workflow?

Is there any legal issue uploading a preset with those improvements for those of us who bought the one here at DAZ?

meh, doesnt really look that great.

The way that i made the scene in Daz wouldnt lend itself to being compatible with the one on the store. I was thinking i could at least  just share the grunge overlays i made, but then i remembered i split the meshes in a weird way and changed UV's so cant even share that.

unless you used map transfer to get it to fit the original

if you owned both you could possibly create LIE material presets but a fair bit of work

(I don't own either BTW laugh as I considered how hard it would be for me to actually populate it and animate a game)

    Hi,

I recently started using the face transfer plugin and it is kind of working but it is making the faces mostly black. Anyone know where I even begin to fix this? I've got my output and the test image I used to generate the face.

For some context I am using a Mac and have Daz Studio working through a wine wrapper. I set it up this way as a work-around for the Big Sur compatibility issues that Daz has with Big Sur.
