Does anyone lnow wha the Camera Plane does?
The Carrara manual only has this to say about the camera plane: "TBD"
I thought it may have something to do with the depth of field, i.e., anything closer to the lens than the plane will determine out-of-focus elements too close to the camera. But, after experimentation (see screenshot of camera plane way ahead of the lens, I don't see any difference for small objects closer than the camera plane. Surely, there must be a way to simulate microscopic spaces with a very narrow depth of field?

Freebie Challenge November 2025 - THE WINTER WITCH!
Denizens of the Daz3D forum freebie area - Perhaps you thought we were done with the spooks and the scares? Perhaps you thought that the artificial cobwebs and those LED pumpkin-shaped candles could be stowed under the stairs for another year? No. Keep those pumpkin candles out, and the caution tape on the front door, because the spooks are not over yet.
You see, denizens, it appears there's treachery afoot. Just this week alone, my speculative meme-stocks have gone to zero, the shoddy DIY repair to my sink i attempted has failed and flooded the bathroom, and my application to work as a therapist for anxious squirrels has been declined. Coincidence? I think not. No, i think we can all agree, there's only one explanation that makes any sense - Witchcraft. A filthy witch is on the loose, causing mayhem and misfortune wherever they raise their warty heads. Unfortunately, we can no longer plunge innocent people into icy rivers in order to test their witchy resolve, so i will require you to take on this investigative burden for me. Bring me evidence of witchcraft. I want rampant speculation, hearsay, gossip, poor quality polaroids, your aunts opinion and more. It's hard work denizens, but at least the pay is low.
TL;DR - Render witches. Or witchcraft. A winter themed render would be lovely too, you might even get more points that way.

I bought it as very cheap with the stackers and code so I guess I can find out
the question is how reliant is the mysterious PA strandbased hair on vertex order or is it UV based
I know Carrara hair/fur one cannot change either on the growth object or subdivision but can use any morphs

November 2025 - Daz 3D New User Challenge - Materials and Next Level KitbashingBeginner Challenge - Materials!
From shiny polished gems to rough bark, and from silk to leather! This month's focus will be on Materials and Surfaces. One of the most important aspects of a great render is the effective use of materials. Effective surface settings can add realism, style, and visual interest to an image. This month we will be concentrating on how to create and manipulate the surfaces on the objects in your scene. Also, keep in mind all the various items covered over the past several months. They will affect the way your materials look in your final rendered scene.

that link just the resulting URL if you are not using Google
Particle ForgefulnessHi, have you figured this out since? I'm currently working with particles and trying to learn everything I can.
BTW, I don't get the search engine on Daz: it looks like one cannot do a search in a specific forum like Carrara -- only a general "Search Forums" which makes it really hard to narrow things down. I'm trying to find all particle-related discussions in the CARRARA forum, but no luck :-(

Yes, Cararra is a pain if I can just do the same thing in DS. You have opened a new world for me!!!
it's less of a pain than Hexagon
saying that as a Carrara user
who wants to use Hexagon too but get endlessly frustratedas for Blender ...well
I am not willing to subscribe and pay monthly for the DAZ studio Mesh grabber tools, I bought Carrara 15 years ago with a few updates but not in a long time sadly but it still does more than Mesh Grabber
oh and I do use the Geometry editor
just hope DAZ doesn't get the bright idea to lock that and other tools behind a subscription paywall
Replicator misbehaving when converting to real objectscobusp said:
This is very frustrating. I changed the overall size back to 100%, and scaled the actual geometry smaller, but it still does the same thing when converting!
Take the object (to be replicated) into the model room and resize it there. (if the object is a carrara primitive, it will first need to be converted "Edit:- convert to other modeler...")

So if you buy a new computer now, would you go with Win 10? If Carrara is shaky, I might be tempted using third party programs for malware protection. They have protected me well for years.

... I care about storytelling, but I need the visual element...
I share that sentiment, although I try to use animation rather than text & images. So DAZ Studio is useful for beautiful still backgrounds due to it's long render times, while Carrara is great for animations with very fast renders, using those DS backgrounds. One of my inspirations is "Classics Illustrated", comic book/graphic novel interpetations of famous classic books, a series that has been through various generations. Here is an alltime favorite, although only one of the great illustrations is shown here:

Thank you both,I will give it a try and see how it goes. At least now I know it won't be a complete waste of time. Thanks for letting me know, have a great week.
Please post your results. I don't have the latest version of DS, but in my years of trying NONE of the FBX figures I have tried to import have worked at all. The mesh is usually distorted and broken and there is usually no rigging, so it will be interesting to see if DAZ have finally fixed FBX import. I know in the past carrara did a great job of importing it.
FBX had some extensive work recently, so previous experience isn't really applicable.
