FYI: Downloads a little slow today due to huge demand

Just so you have a heads up, you may see a slow down in downloading content through DIM, as well as getting your initial meta-data pull through Daz-Connect.  This is due to two reasons:

1- (And no, I'm not putting a spin on this) The adoption thus far of 4.9 has been absolutely astounding.  As such, the amount of people hitting all at once to get their 4.9 meta data is much much much higher than we even anticipated, or than it will typically be.

2- Thanks to you all helping us celebrate this launch, the number of customers shopping, and the amount of purchasing going on is trending toward an all time high.

Thank you all for showing, through your actions, that you appreciate all that Daz does and is doing.  Apologies for the slow down today... It should clear up soon.

I gathered that much. Also, the huge sales of 70%+ are not helping much with the load either.

I imagine from some of the responses to Connect that some people are busy downloading all their zips also...

A little slow...!  I've been trying to download Ron's Impressions and getting nowhere fast!
...and I was all fired up to create something after seeing them but I've well and truly lost that feeling now;)

  • Any idea on when things might speed up? I havne't been able to get a single download to finish before timing out for over 24 hours now.

Have you tried downloading a product using Daz Connect? It was designed so it could utilize CDN caches so as more users are downloading the more caching it gets and the faster it should be.

Unfortunately DIM is all served off of the download servers at our datacenter so it can't compare to the hundreds of distributed systems of the CDN we are using for Daz Connect.

I would be more than willing to try that, but I have had even less luck trying to download and install 4.9. Is there a way to download and install it without using DIM?

I've heard of people having success at downloading the version through the product library.

You should be able to find it here:

Hrmm.. I noticed a slow down yesterday and today but I was able to download version 4.9 yesterday via DIM and my other purchases via connect tonight and yesterday.

  • Thanks for the link, I'll try downloading it through there. Should I back up all my Daz files before installing?

I guess this affected the email as well, still waiting on my gift card  so I can make the purchases, I can wait to down load but I can't wait for a sale to end

ETA: don't look like I'll get my gift card in time, DAZ is probably holding the mail till sale is over . . need longer sales,

As I understand it the gift card is auto generated when the sale is made and not manually sent by an individual. In other words there is no one to be holding up mailing it. You need to go ahead and send in a note to CS and I also suggest that you add to the note the products you want to buy with it so that there is a record in case the sale does end before the get it sorted.

found what the problem was, a typo in the email address, ticket sent to get that corrected,  glad there is no mic, there were some  colorful words sounding out because I saw no card in the mail.

a moment of clarity  paused me to think, lets check that order again, and spotted the typo,  pressure  now released from blood vesicles, veins receding  to there proper location, skin color returning from Green to normal . . .  yeah . . . I was getting hulk made

cart is loaded and ready once I receive the card code, might need to reload it

XaatXuun, just in case CS isn't able to get to it before the end of the sale.. Take a screen shot of your full cart so that you can get them to help you get those prices even if the sale has ended. I know that most places are not that good but as I understand it CS is very understanding about things like that.

Thanks for the direct link. Is it really only "FREE for a limited time"?

My guess is that is anybody's guess. If memory serves, Studio was not free for only a short time, and then reverted to free, so it didn't work out well that time, but who knows if it will be tried again.

Everything on earth is for a limited time when you think about it...

I noticed no slowdown during downloading my purchases today through the site and through daz connect (for those encrypted only contents).

    186 KB/s this evening.

    It's not slow.

    It's feature!

It's good to hear that 4.9 is being taken up so eagerly. Qualified somewhat by the fact that 4.9 is the only version now available for download.

  • KhoryKhory Posts: 3,854

Ashley that is standard procedure. They always pull the old version when the new one is released.

Yes they always do and I don't have a problem with that policy as new users of any software always want the latest version, even if given the choice of previous versions.

It gets more difficult to continue investing in content if this question isn't answered, especially as more content is released as DS only (encrypted DUF files, no G3 support outside of DS, no HD support outside of DS, etc.).

Always free, or free for a limited time . . . they've said both. So which is it?

Eventually the universe itself will no longer exist...so, I guess everything is 'limited time'...

But, seriously, it has been years now that this question has not been firmly answered, maybe it's a case of of CYA?

Studio has always been free AFAIK. Studio Pro was, and may again be, a premium.

Always free and limited time are not mutually exclusive. It is always free, every time you look it is free. At some point computers will be obsolete or the human race will be, at that time it will no longer be free or available for that matter. Hence the limited time. It also adds some level of urgency for new users.

Studio being free is an important marketing stance for the company. Studio being free draws new users who purchase the content which is where the money is made. It also means that the vast majority of end users are on the "same page" making innovation more possible, and product creation easier. They tried selling a version of the program and learned their lesson about content needing to be king.

Always means "at all times", which is certainly mutually exclusive from limited time, but whatever. I should have known better than to ask in the first place.
