Architecture, Vendors and sizes

To all vendors who create architectual elements:
Size is important. It is especially important to agree on one size.
Most architectual elements are to big for the DAZ studio universe, so they have to be scaled down to aprox. 85 % in order to match Genesis (1) to 9 measurements.
Till today I finished scenes and projects, just to realize, that I have to redo everything again, just because some sizes don't match.
I do have an explaination how this came to be.
It is the fault of old Poser's resizing between Poser 6 and 7. So it is not surprizing, that it affects vendors who have already been popular back then.
(I am talking also about vendors like Stonemason. Pretty much the best architectual sceneries ever, but always to big.)
Again scaling down to 85% is necessary!!!
Poser sizes do NOT work in DAZ Studio. Use measure metrics for creating your products!
Crazy, how this Poser Creators' diletantism, impacts DAZ Studio products still to this day.

It might also be because Genesis figures (at least 1-8, not sure about 9) are taller than the average person. Environments scaled to them might be slightly bigger than average too.
I tend to import the current Genesis figure into Blender and use them for scale (e.g. a seated figure to match the chair to them so they can sit without hovering or having their feet through the ground. Or a standing figure to make sure they fit through the doorway).
One could use real-world measurements of course, but then you run into the above problem of figures being too big for the chair (plus, in my case, I tend to do sci-fi so there's no real-world to copy (doors are doors, but even they vary between country and time period).
I don't think so. According to measure metrics Genesis 1 to 8 are 180 cm, which is an average size. It is absolutely not about the figures. It is about a from Poser inherited size confusion, that Poser caused, when they've changed their internal sizes.
Most DAZ environments that are to big are perfect in size, once they are scaled down to aprox. 85 %, wich is exactly the scaling difference between the internal Poser scales between Poser 5 and Poser 7.
It doesn't help to use Blender for that matter. Let's stay in DAZ Studio and use measure metrics as a standard.
Depends on your country I guess. 175cm is average here.
And no, we're not staying in Daz Studio because you can't model in that. My point there was more around how I make my sets. I size it for Genesis (8 or 9 depending on how old the set is). But then I never modelled for Poser so maybe my sets are the right size?
You can suggest Measure Metrics, but not everyone has that. You can suggest real-world units, but they also vary by country standard (and, in some cases, historical/future contexts). I'm not sure you'll get a consensus from all the PAs on this.
I've never had to scale a set down to 85% from another vendor - Can you give an example of a specific set?
Sorry, but as DS uses real world units, that's what I model in and use too. The door in my Rigged Wall and Door is exactly the centimeter size of the room in my house it was modelled from. I am not going to make it 85% of that size. And I am not going to do it for anything else, either.
The Mile Long Bridge I did is 1 Mile, 33 yards (1640 metres, 164,000 cm). You'd feel short changed if it was less.
So, in my case:-
No.
Not going to happen.
Regards,
Richard.
Not everybody's props and environments has to be scaled down.
Jack Tomalin and Stonemason products come to my mind here. Their products often have to be scaled down.
I have never had to do so with either PAs' products regardless of what generation of character I am using. Can you be specific?
The only scale issues I've seen are widths. Those 1500 sq ft bathrooms that must sell well given how many there are.
I mean, if you're in the US where 8 ft residential ceilings are common, a 250 cm ceiling is "a little tall" at 8 ft 3 in. Sometimes I see the ceiling set at 300 cm, which is 9 ft 10 in, or there about. Not a normal house ceiling size. But commercial real estate tends toward 12 ft, or 366 cm. So it isn't really too big.
Are you talking about ceiling heights or other scale issues. Table heights can be a bit weird but even in a furniture store heights aren't uniform. If you Google furniture dimensions, the result will always be a decent range. (And then the AI will ask if you want to find a furniture store near you.)
It might not be the standard for the US, but 250 cm is the typical ceiling height in new construction here in France for example, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same in a lot of countries using metric system.
And it's typically higher in older buildings. For example I live in a building from 1920 and my flat has a ceiling at 300cm, and 320-350 cm is usual for the main floors in Haussmannian buildings (built around 1850)
As I said 250 cm is just slightly longer than 8 ft. Not enough that the average person would notice.
Scaling shouldn't be an issue since DAZ Studio automatically converts Poser's scales to DAZ Studios' scale. Or at least I thought it did.
For items in Poser format DS does indeed convert the Poser units automatically into cm, which is what DS uses internally.
One of the problems you can sometimes encounter with Poser content though is that at some point Poser owners decided to change the definition of Poser units for some reason. IIRC it was initially 1 PNU = 8 feet in Poser 4, and then they changed it to 1 PNU = 8.6 feet in Poser 6.
Most content creators kept using the old scale though, and that's also what DS uses for automatic conversion, but some sets are built around the new scale and so are too small in DS...
