d force weight node prolems

I'm following an old youtube tutorial on how to use the d force weight node but am having zero luck. Am using daz studio 6 and applying dforce to a plane that is 100 x 100 first then applying the weight node. Was wondering if the tutorial from 2019 is giving me the wrong advice or if the weight node tool is not working in studio 6 like a lot of my plugs-ins are now doing? My project is to make a theater curtain with the bottom third of it being opened by a character.

What is happening when you try to folow the video? Which one is it?

  • The video is Thundorn's video by the title, "Daz Studio Pro Tips: weight maps"  After I follow all of the procedures he goes through in detail, I get nothing when I use the brush on my plane which is 100 X 100. Basically, nothing happens, there's no change of color to indicate a change of the weight map, nothing at all happens.

When you create a dForce Weight Node, the Influence Weights map defaults to 100% (fully red) across the entire plane. Using the Node Weight Map Brush normally only adds weight, so painting over an area that is already at 100% will cause nothing to change.

Holding Alt / Option switches the brush to subtraction mode, which reduces the weight and turns the red areas blue/clear. Once the weight reaches 0%, that portion will be excluded from the simulation and remain static, giving you the control you need to pull or pin the curtain.

In Thundorn's video, he mentions holding the Alt key in the audio commentary, but because there are no on-screen captions or text overlays, it is very easy to miss.

ctrl to add, alt to subtract is relatively standard for Daz "brushes".
