Edit node name

Is there a keystroke that guarantees, if you press it while hovering the mouse over a node in scene view, it will enter edit mode on the node's name? I click and click and click again and only sometimes does the editor activate.

  • Click, pause, click.

This fairly consistently allows editing of the itemt/node name in the Scene tab.

I couldn't find a direct option to set a short curt, but you could set one to the "Scene identification..." popout to change the name.

I'm too impatient for that. And I don't know how long to pause when Daz it being sluggish.

It's only about 1/2 of a second, roughtly the same delay required in windows explorer to change folder/file names.

No, it's 2-3 seconds  when Daz is sluggish with a large scene.

    I think you're confusing a couple things.

What i'm referring to is the delay between clicks to activate edit mode. Click, pause 1/2 second, click, edit mode active.

What you're referring to is "input lag", click, pause 1/2 second, click, nothing happens for 2-3 seconds, edit mode active.

This is "normal" when daz is "sluggish" as almost all inputs and responses will be delayed to some degree.

Unfortunately, the only solutions are patience(click, pause, click, do nothing else till you get a response), delete stuff out of your scene to reduce the slugishness, or invest in better hardware.

A short cut wouldn't solve this issue, as it will still have input lag.

1stly I believe you want to edit Node Label rather than Node Name ~

I don't know why there's a longer pause on your side... but you can try: Edit > Figure > Scene Identification... If it can instantly pop up as well as instantly change the Node Label after Accept,  assign a shortcut to it, then hit the shortcut to edit Node Label.

That may be a faster way for your case ~

Load this https://www.daz3d.com/my-secret-grove . Daz crawls in Texture Shaded draw mode. I have 128 GB of RAM and an i9/14000. My machine isn't weak. But both DS4 and DS6 GUIs become jerky as long as the grove is visible. (Hide the grove and the jerkiness goes away.)

As for scene identification, I doubt an entire dialog will "instantly" pop up.

when i load this up, either the group or single part version, in 4.24.03 or 6.25.2026.14722  i'm getting no lag or system slow down at all.

Even when i had both versions open simultaneously, i couldn't get any lag until i switched to iray for the viewport and the only lag was when i moved the camera, everything else was normal.

    This is on a xeon w-2125(4c8th@4ghz) 64GB of ddr4(2400mhz) and a Quadro m4000(8GB, ~gtx 970 equivalent), server 2022, Dell t5820.

checking system utilization, Studio is usin 836MB of sys ram, 88MB of vram(total system is 455MB), the Info tab shows 1,295,894 total vertices in the scene, and 54 total pieces(in the group version) so it's not a particularly "heavy" asset.

    This was in DS 4.24.03.

Could be something is messed up in your DS installl, a possible system issue,  or there's something messed up with the asset you're using.

I'd suggest starting by comparing your system utilization to mine and if there's a difference, try to figure out where it might be.

I haven't loaded it in a while. I'm loading it now. Of course, it might be the scene file that's the issue. In 4.24.04 it is use 1.3 GB loaded from a clean load of DS. I have 2,070,770 vertices in  the scene file. Did you load "My Secret Grove" or "My Secret Grove Group"? I loaded the first one.

Oops, that was the Group version.

The one piece is 2,070,770 verticies, I'm getting 1.4GB fo sys, so, the numbers are close enough i'd say that's not what's causing the problem.

    This is in 4.24.0.3.

The default grove seems fine for me. I need to experiment now. Maybe my scene is messed up. There are 4 G9 figures in the scene. Over the weekend, I'll recreate the scene from scratch to see if it's the DUF that's messed up.

But I have these issues with anything that's high in instances.

Some problematic plugins may cause the issue ~

  • jmucchiellojmucchiello Posts: 2,507

Are they known problematic plugins? DS6 isn't any better and the number of plugins is much lower there.

  • crosswindcrosswind Posts: 10,347

I'm not sure of which...though I ever experienced the similar issue with some plugins ~~ but trouble-shooting may take some time.  You're using DS6 Public Build ? Disable all plugins that come from 3rd-parties as well as the ones you never use. Then test.
