thanks for going about updates in an organized way.
i hope that DAZ will start tagging products as "2025" compatible.
i will problaby hold off any  purchases unless there is a 2025 version.

    Thanks for your comment.
I am starting the updates with the wet and tanned skins series (all generations). I will update the main thread in parallel as updates are submitted first, then live.

I don't see the various Extract and Append scripts on any list. Does it already work in DS 6?

The honest answer is: mostly yes, but with one important limitation.

Extract and Append works well in DS6 as long as the source scene does not contain very large cached dForce simulation data. This can happen with some heavily simulated hair or other dForce items. In that specific case, DS6 will hang or crash while parsing the DUF file.

I have already developed a temporary workaround for DS6. The "upcoming" (depending on Daz answer) update includes an optional Safe Mode that first pre-analyzes the file and, when necessary, creates a temporary copy with the problematic simulation data removed before parsing it. The original DUF file is never modified. This makes the process safe in DS6, although the preliminary analysis takes additional time.

This workaround is included in a larger update that also contains several quality-of-life improvements. The update is ready, but has not yet been submitted.

The underlying issue is not something I can directly fix inside the script: DS6 crashes when parsing some files containing very large simulation_data blocks, sometimes stored in a single line several megabytes long. The same files are parsed correctly in DS4. This is a single line of code, and the access to the underlying treatment of this called function is not on my side (native function).

I have reported the issue to Daz, and it has been passed to the development team. I am currently waiting to see whether they can provide a solution before deciding whether to submit the current "Safe Mode" update. If no native solution is possible, I may eventually - mi term - include an external Python-based parser, but for now I prefer to wait for Daz’s feedback so that I can communicate clearly about the final solution.

    • Buildings and Skyscrapers Generator

    • Light Manager

    • Scene Optimizer

Updates tested and ready to be submitted:

As I leave for my family vacation this weekend, I just hope my computer survives the journey so I can continue working on the remaining updates while I am away!
Yes, apparently a PA vacation consists of re-testing, packaging and submitting updates. Completely normal.

I, for one, really appreciate all your hard work. I wouldn't be able to do what I enjoy without it.

I heartily agree!  Thank you @V3Digitimes.

Thank you both so much. And coming from two people who have seen a little more than most of what goes on behind the scenes, that means even more. ;)

I started working on these updates more than a year ago, so at this point it has been a very long road of fixing, testing, re-fixing, re-testing, packaging... and occasionally wondering whether it would ever end.

Messages like yours genuinely do me a great deal of good and remind me why all that work matters. Thank you. :)

I remember when you went on vacation the last time, and was concerned about taking your computer. Now that you know what it involves, it should be no problem smiley. Enjoy the vacation and do spend time with the family, it is a vacation after all.

I thank you for all these updates too! With all the work, I do hope it brings you extra sales from new customers who start with DS6.

@DoctorJellybean Yes, although every year feels a little riskier than the previous one because of the age of the liquid-cooling system. My main concern is that several hours of vibration in the car might finally finish it off. Fingers crossed!

@Quasar Thank you! Extra sales were not really the original goal. It was mostly about making sure that people who bought something to use in Daz Studio can continue using it. So it is more about respecting the past than projecting into the future.

Still, why not the future too, even if I am keeping my expectations rather modest on that front.

The updates for Wet and Tanned Skins are about to be released ensuring DS4 + DS6 compatibility.

Even though they have been carefully beta tested by myself, a private beta tester, and the QA team, I strongly recommend backing up the scripts (no need to back up the Runtime)... Just in case.

In case of any issue, please let me know, along with the version of Daz Studio you are using.

I'll update the main post when it goes live.

Have you had any problems with your scripts getting encrypted with a different DS version that the one you selected in the file? RiverSoft Art is having a lot ot issues with that. It is preventing his scripts from working in earlier versions of Daz Studio. He believes that something changed that makes the selected version for encryption be ignored now.

  • V3DigitimesV3Digitimes Posts: 3,454

I did my best to encrypt them all with DS4 from the beginning, because I feared something like that. I have never tried to encrypt with DS6.

YET, when you constantly have two Daz Studio versions (4 and 6) open, each with its undocked Script IDE (so four windows in total), accidents can happen. This is why it would be good if people could keep a backup of the scripts until they have checked that everything is working properly, especially since I think QA only tests on DS6.

On my side, I test the unencrypted scripts on both DS versions, and only encrypt them when I package them. So this is the stage where I can potentially make a mistake.

In the scripts themselves, the compatible version settings are kept at their original values. Today, for instance, I had some set to 4.9 (old ones for my updates), and I left them at 4.9. I obviously cannot test on versions that old, but I have introduced nothing that should break compatibility ... in theory, and assuming encryption does not break it either...

The only thing I have checked a couple of times is that scripts encrypted with 4.24 worked properly on 4.23 release build.

I think all wet and tanned skins are now live, which was updated in the main post.
A couple of minor products with this family (tan lines for M7/V7 for instance where only one script is impacted) have not been updated/submitted yet but will be when all major products have been submitted.

Several other products were submitted last week, several have their submission page ready - just waiting for a "clear and fresh brain" final check.
I'll update the main post in a couple of days about this.

I'm back home, and I've updated the main post with the submitted updates.
I'm carrying on with the process, trying to get as far as I can before I go completely crazy. It started in April 2025... never-ending!!!

Welcome back! I hope you had a break and enjoyed the vacation.

How many products have you got left to do?

So far, around 30 products have already been submitted, 7 of which are now live.

I still have at least 12 products to go:

    • 1 : Ultimate Pose Master G9, already tested by a private beta tester, so this one should be near the top of the list.
    • 2 : Wayfinder Sign Generator and Speech Bubble Generator. For these, I want to handle the new way DS6 separates Font Families and Font Styles. It is not implemented yet, but I already have an idea of how to deal with it.
    • 4 : Iray Converters. These are not my highest priority, since they can largely be replaced by Texture Booster and Shader Converter. They mostly work already, but the Geograft Transfer Tool still needs to be adapted.
    • 2 : Tan Lines for Michael 7 and Victoria 7. Only one script needs to be updated for each, so the actual update should be quick, but they still need testing on both DS versions, packaging, submission pages, etc.
    • 1 : Scene Analyzer, which has not been updated at all yet. There are quite a few things to fix, and some features simply won't work in DS6 for now because there is currently no way to fix them.
    • 2 : Ultimate Pose Master and Ultimate Pose Master Pro with Mega Pose Toolkit. For these, only the Menu and Toolbar installers still need to be finalized. They have been giving me trouble for a looong time, but I think I now have the solution. Maybe. :D

So that's at least 12 more products .... plus any I may have forgotten along the way. I'll do one final pass through everything once I reach the end, just to make sure nothing was missed.
And then there's QA... I just hope I won't end up blacklisted after sending them this many updates in such a short period of time. :D
edit : Maybe I should start sending QA a countdown with each submission... “Only 11 more to go!” :D
