I'd love to see these sorts of posts more often. I really like seeing the ideas behind things.
I'd also be really curious as to what the top selling items for the year were (i.e. actual rank not just random top items on sale.)
Edit: My guess is V7 Pro Bundle
You should have punches now, I raised the issue with support and they have confirmed the punches had been awarded.
Indeed I have. Thanks!
Is this a buy everything sale? I am confused?
No - looks more like a "buy something, get somethng, buy more, get a better deal" sale. Also, note that one of the 'punchable' items today was a PC+ item.
"If you just buy five things a week ..."
What planet made of money do you live on exactly?
I want to live there.
Instead I'll go shopping where my limited hobby funds go the farthest, and buy 1 item while getting a flat 50% to 60% off.
Ippotamus: I have a fairly good budget to buy stuff. And... even THAT would barely manage to qualify for more than a single week, and only if I was really scrimping and making hard choices.
Yeah.
I'm still mad about the additional 20% off not working on Cyber Monday, and will definately not be participating in any punch card scheme.
Yep! Punch sales are like negative energy for me. And if there are that many rule or instructions then there's something wrong with this picture.
'Hey, for the next week, all clothing is 50% off, 60% if you are a PC+ member.'
There. There's your sale.
Do more of that.
I dunno, I think it's okay that not all sales appeal to everyone. At least there's something going on to make people look at the store and come to the forums to write crap.
I like the almost gamelike sales a lot even though they're the least likely ones for me to participate in. I think the problem is that people feel they have to buy enough to get to the max range in order for it to be worth them even trying (because we all wait for sales to buy anything in the first place.)
Look at it like this:
- Many of us are saying we're all saled out from the nonstop sales for the past few months. Then it's break time!
- If you really want a brand new thing right now, you can get a bit of a discount and maybe something else once that discount builds on.
- The other alternative is not bothering to have any sort of sale on for awhile.
- The PAs who's stuff you're buying in the sale are giving you free items at the same time.
I'd rather always have something going on and only taking part personally in the ones I want to, than lulls of nothing where we all twiddle our thumbs. I don't lose anything by this sale existing.
When a post as long as this is required to explain the sale conditions, they're too complicated.
When we benighted punters have to scratch our heads and break out the spreadsheet to work out how to get the best deal, it's too complicated.
You say you want us to buy stuff? (well, I do definitely get the impression that 'sell more stuff' is the Daz mission statement), well then keep it simple please. There are alternative stores where they don't make you jump through hoops like this to get the discount required to bring prices down to realistic levels.
'If you just buy 5 new things per week...' 'Just' 5? You can always dream.
First of all, thanks for explaining. Second, thanks for listening to us last year when we said getting five punches and THEN getting a higher discount made us wait too long. KUDOS for applying what we said! Third, after so many sales and the 60% off yesterday, many of us are out of money anyway, so liking the sale or not liking it doesn't make much difference anyway LOL!
Thank you to the vendors who put their stuff on sale and participate.
This is a very good point.
These day after day sales have become a joke. Is Daz so desperate for money they can't relax for a few days between sales?
Are you so desperate for full price items? If you don't want to buy anything from this sale, then don't buy anything.
Between a quarter and a half of the items at my grocery store are on sale at any given time. Sometimes there are dumb conditions. Usually there aren't. Sometimes I change what I buy to take advantage of a sale on another brand, but usually I buy whatever I want. Would you expect me to write in to tell them to stop putting things on sale constantly because I can't or don't want to buy them all or fulfill the conditions? If you don't like the sale, just ignore it and wait for one you're interested in.
(For the record, I still personally think this sale is kinda dumb overall. But it's cool that it's there for those that want to buy things, and better than an empty storefront just because I happen to be broke from previous sales.)
I'm prepared to be ticked when I have more money to spend and the stuff I wanted to get isn't on sale again for 3 months.
Well maybe for a few years but not forever. I remember the old DAZ (before the takeover) when we used to have really fun straight forward sales. Everytime DAZ has one these punch sales there are lots of complaints; but it must work for them because they keep doing it. At least with this sale the rewards are immediate, while some of the earlier punch sales required multiple punches to get any reward.
As for me, I am grateful for this sale. It will give my bank account time to recover from 2+ months of spectacular sales.
Just a thought and obviously I have absolutely no idea how accurate it is, but maybe they have a new model which involves there always being something on instead of big sales with several month gaps.
I feel like when I joined there weren't really any sales on but since September it's been every single day, and every single day there's an email full of shinies to entice. Or maybe I just didn't pay any attention to them until the PA sale started.
* Items bought with punch discounts as well as items purchased to recieve[sic] punches are exempt from our return policy unless certified defective.
You lose DAZ's usual return policy on any new item that takes your fancy and that happens to be part of the punch sale. Unless, that is, you go to the trouble of contacting support and having yourself excluded from the punch sale (assuming they still offer such an exclusion this time).
Last time around I requested exclusion but it took so long that the item/s I was interested in went off offer. This time I'm just going to exclude myself by not buying anything new.
The mascot fellow on the holiday sale page is superbly appropriate; boggle eyed and forlorn - and waving goodbye when you mouse over. I think the dog-eared pajama suit might benefit by having WTF printed on the front.
.
Undoubtedly, this sale does *try* to incentivize the consumer to buy more. The only problem is that it all depends on the goals of the consumer and how willing the consumer is willing to wait.
An example would be a consumer trying to purchase a few items from the back catalog at a greater discount. There's no incentive to purchase every day, because that runs the risk of a desired back catalog item *not* appearing in time before the punches reset. It's better, cost-wise, to wait for the item to appear and *then* purchase a number of items to maximize the punches along with the desired back catalog item.
Another example would be a consumer trying to maximize cost-savings of purchasing new releases. It's not necessary to purchase five new items per week -- it's only 5% per item -- unless all five items are actually wanted.
*However*, the risk analysis changes when large quantities of best-selling/featured items are being purchased, in that the discounted cost savings from purchasing X number of items is greater than the cost of purchasing items during the week. That number runs absurdly high though, since each discount level only gives a couple dollars in savings for a typical non-bundle product versus the cost of a single new release.
These day after day sales have become a joke. Is Daz so desperate for money they can't relax for a few days between sales?
When everyday is a "sale" it tells me that "sales" are fake. Sears used to use the fake sale technique for years until the government stopped them based on fraudulent sales techniques
That's true that you can't return them, but then I've never tried to return any item before so I didn't really consider it. I was thinking more about how that line was probably added after their colossal Black Friday - Cyber Monday - buy3 60% mess up where the entire store was on sale offered at continually better deals, and all of the partial refund tickets they had to deal with as a result. Is it normal to return items? Why do people do it? To try them out and see if they work as hoped?
Yesterday people were struggling to count to 3. I'd say properly analysing this sale is a bit beyond them, and that it is a bit too complicated even though it's doing nothing but offering additional benefits you don't have to go for (return issues aside.)
The way I look at it, the standard price of items is a good deal for anyone making money off the use of these products, but too high for hobbyists doing it for fun. The sales give the hobbyists access to the same things, provided they buy things at the right time. The alternative would be only having full prices, or a separate price point for those wanting a commercial licence to render vs personal use only. I'll take the sales over that choice. I can buy things for fun and if I ever want to use the renders in a commercial product, I know I have the rights to.
Never mind
Yep, same here, only ever returned one item due to it not working properly. Makes me wonder if the system is abused (wouldn't surprize me) since they actually have to have that disclaimer in the first place with this sale
While I don't plan on taken advantage of any punches, I do look forward to seeing what new products will coming out during the sale, so bring it on, LOL.
...same here. Did pretty good with the Flash Sales last month so rather content for now.
I suspect items will be punchable for only a few days, so if you want an item but with standard return policy and probably with the standard intro discount just wait until it is no longer listed as a punchable new item.
Or as we in the Northeast US say, "If you don't like the weather, just wait. It'll change."
I am relieved to see someone say something about "after the takeover". I'd thought that DAZ had sold out some time ago but wasn't sure. It explains the corporate mentality I've been noticing.
This would be better if the Feature Item list of items lasted throughout the week rather than changing daily.
