Now that's Fine Print!

    It just seems so excessive.

I know many people have more money than me, but I don't think I could even afford to buy 5 new release items per week. I'm pretty sure I've rarely actually wanted 5 new releases in a week. And that's just to get the discount level fully going each week?

Didn't the Rev Up system a month or two ago get changed because people couldn't keep buying every day or something? This seems even worse.

Oh well, 'every week' suggests I have a month or so to make up with my credit card again.

  • Purchased Mars and no punches here either.

They really shouldn't set up such complicated sales if their technology can't even process them accurately; even if you're onboard for the dubious value propositions, and the gotcha-fine-print, these are always a nightmare.

It does seem odd that they just had massive issues making the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales apply/display for a lot of it, and then immediately dive into a much more complicated sale.

Also, can someone please explain what the hell a Punch is? Is it some sort of American thing?

  • A punch, when you have a physical card, is literally a while punched into the card, usually (where I live) with a specially-shaped hold punch (like a heart, or an ice cream cone, etc)

Each purchase or multiple of an arbitrary dollar amount (depending on the store), you get a punch. When you have a requisite about of punched, you get something, usually a free item.

Starbucks does this, I presume worldwide, but instead of punches, they give you stars, which you can track with the app. In that case, 12 stars gets you a free item.

I've never seen a physical store do attached discounts with punched the way DAZ does, though.

Ohh... I think we call them stamps here (get 10 stamps for a free coffee, or whatever.)

The thing that had me confused was the blonde nerd looking person in the pink bunny suit and slippers. I thought that was the "punch" which is either some sort of mythological creature, or a Daz marketing employee that you'd want to--

At least with Firefox there is a way to set smallest font size to keep webpages from having tiny fine print.

I find this frustrating. I like to  buy gift cards to make my purchases for the month. So instead of offering a gift card at the begining of the month I must presumably make 5 purchases to get this... It is very weird.

I believe that's a drawing of Ralphie, a character from the movie, "A Christmas Story".

Getting really tired of these convoluted stupid sales.

It might hurt me to pass on some of the cool purchases, but I'm getting motivated more and more to pass on Daz store.

Ah...but THIS convoluted sale has been around for nearly forever...it's a 'staple'...like the March Madness and PA sales events...it's one of the cornerstones of mad, wacky, convoluted sales...it's an...ICON!  It's...

  • I will not play games with Daz.... if they want a sale that's great but to set up a bulls#it sale that is complicated is a turn off for me.   I buy from actual sales... not games

mjc: It might not be new, it's definitely stupid.

They should pick a sale structure and stick to it. They can still have wiggle room to put things on sale, fine, but utterly changing the entire schema of how sales work from week to week is dumb and obnoxious. As is playing games with sale timing (today 55% off! Ha ha, now it's 60% off! Ha ha, now it's 65% off! Oh no, expired)

I am in the same boat, my credit is almost out, so I am waiting for a gift card sale. Now they have this punch system I fear there will be no GC sales until the new year.

It may be different for those of us who have been around here for years and years...but these 'wacky' sales were considered something to look for and plan around...how to best take advantage of them.  How to have fun with them...

It probably could be fun, but just 1 day after a store-wide 60% off, when we could get everything we wanted, it just isn't exciting, in my opinion.

I think Sales games are fun, but this one seems a bit excessive. At least it's not making me feel ripped off the way the last two did with their timing.

I still think Ralphie needs to go back to Easter, but I'll have fun watching the sales from the sidelines.

Now THAT may be an issue...or lack of planning...or just because CyberMonday happened to be the day before December started (the first is the 'traditional day for the start of the punch sale).  Who would be complaining if there wasn't some sort of CyberMonday sale?

Next year, CyberMonday IS the first...now that should be interesting surprise

  • lx_2807502lx_2807502 Posts: 2,996

I think the timing is fine. It's not a big a sale like Cyber Monday, and at least there's something on rather than a blank store page?

Unless I'm meant to think the punch it sale is a big deal or something.

  • The text from the terms and conditions page that discusses punches carrying over from one week to the next has been removed and that part of the punch card sale has been removed to make the sale more easy to understand and take part in. Thank you.

Sooo where do I find how many punches I have?

It should be on top of this page: http://www.daz3d.com/december-2015-punchard-sale

I cannot confirm that it works, as I don't have any. :)

I'm 100% content with sitting back and seeing the free PA gifts. So much jollityiness!

Also I still want to know what top this is: http://www.daz3d.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/0/1/01-ly-peppermint-cheer-make-up-daz3d.jpg

Well I shall just buy what I need. I'm not bothered about punches and the majority of items are not the type I would use anyway.

  • mtl1mtl1 Posts: 1,508

Didn't we already have a problem with "punch" systems during the PA sale? I mean, having a fixed date where the punches are reset is more clear, but a punch system actively disincentivizes purchases because customers will simply hold out buying punches until the last minute (or when a product they like goes on sale).

I'm kinda saled out. They need some breaks in between sales - it's been sales for like 4 months straight. I find myself wishing they'd go to a Trader Joe's model: just price things reasonably all year long and not have sales. But I guess that would be boring.

They tried that at one point a few years ago but it obviously didn't work since they went back to the "sales all the time" model.

  • Okay, so here's the sale in a nutshell... Bear in mind, that the insidious point behind this (spoiler) is that we want you to buy stuff :)

If you just buy one thing per week you get:

    - A minor discount on a giftcard (2%)

    - 30% off of some of this year's top sellers

    - 40%, 45%, and 50% off of that day's featured PA's (the % is based on the item being 1,2, or 3+ years old) (the % is based on the item being 1,2, or 3+ years old) (note there is a minor change happening as I type this to make these the actual percentages, instead of stacking percentages (e.g. 30 and 40 will be 70, rathern than 58) to make this even better than it was)

If you just buy five new things per week you get:

    - New items at 50% off

    - A big discount on a giftcard (10%)

    - 70% off of some of this year's top sellers

    - 60%, 65%, and 70% off of that day's featured PA's (the % is based on the item being 1,2, or 3+ years old) (note there is a minor change happening as I type this to make these the actual percentages, instead of stacking percentages (e.g. 30 and 40 will be 70, rathern than 58) to make this even better than it was)

Anything inbetween is inbetween those percentages.

    The goal here was to:

    - Give you better discounts on stuff than you have been able to get at nearly any other time

    - Make older stuff even cheaper

    - Hi light the most popular items, and help you get them

    - Benefit those who buy more even more
