NVIDIA driver question

Hi, I'll explain why below if you're interested but please tell me the NVIDIA driver version recommended for DAZ 4.24 and DAZ 6.25 when using a 5090 GPU. I've been using the "Studio Driver", is this recommended or should I use the "Game Ready Driver"? I wish I could find this information in the forums, it's probably somewhere but I don't know where.

Explanation: First off, I've never experienced a problem until I installed the latest NVIDIA Studio Driver (610.62). Since installing this driver I have a problem that is NOT specific to DAZ software but unfortunately it happens with DAZ software. It also happens with Renpy games and I'm not sure what other programs. Essentially after working for a while the computer becomes very, very slow to respond and act upon anything. In Renpy games I can solve the problem for each game by selecting "Force ANGLE2 Renderer" in the game's options and then the game no longer causes the problem. The default renderer in Renpy games is called "GL2" and this must be the trigger for the problem. I do not know what "GL2" or "ANGLE2" mean but I'm lucky that Renpy supports both of them because one solves my problem. When the problem occurs when using either DAZ Studio 4.24 or 6.25 I don't know what to do. It's impossible to use the computer when this problem occurs so I have to slowly save, close, and then either sign off or restart my PC. When I sign on or after restarting the problem is gone but it will return after working for a while. As I said, this is NOT specific to DAZ Studio and I'm not reporting a bug. I believe it's a bug in the driver hence I'd like to roll back to one before this problem started. Unfortunately I use the NVIDIA app to install drivers and it deletes the old one so I don't know which one I was using before installing 610.62.

Thanks! John

I can't answer your driver version question, but I can tell you the DS 4.24 does not and will never use an Nvidia 5000 series GPU to render. To render with an Nvidia 5000 series GPU you must use DS6. And be sure to configure render settings to use the GPU for rendering in DS6. And, the Studio driver is recommended for Daz Studio, not game driver.

Update: I noticed that there is a new "Game Ready Driver" (610.74) but there is not an equivalent "Studio Driver". I took a chance and installed the new "Game Ready Driver". Afterwards I built a small scene in 4.24 and rendered it in 6.25 and did not encounter the problem. It was a simple scene so I didn't work on it very long which means I can't be certain if the problem is solved or if I was just lucky this time. I'm still interested in what DAZ recommends and I'll roll back to it rather than using a "Game Ready Driver".

Thanks for the reply. I'm well aware of the rendering difference between 4.24 and 6.25. I've been building scenes in 4.24 and rendering in 6.25 (alpha, beta, and release versions) for a long time now and I've always used the "Studio Driver" version until I took a chance on the new "Game Ready Driver" a couple of hours ago. I have the render settings on both GPU and CPU in both 4.24 and 6.25 and the result is exactly what you'd expect: 4.24 uses the CPU and 6.25 uses the GPU.

I've seen a number of people complaining about this problem when playing Renpy games. It's a strange problem because the solution that works for me does not work for everyone. I was quite surprised when I discovered the problem was happening with DAZ too. I'm confident it's an NVIDIA problem rather than a DAZ problem but it is frustrating.

On the DAZ Studio 6.25 forum I received the information I was after from DoctorJellybean:

    REQUIRES:

    • NVIDIA Driver 576.57 (R575) on Windows
      • NOTE: 576.80 is the first Studio Driver (SD) after the minimum

    That was in December 2025.
