Products not compatible with Daz Studio 6, zero warnings on store pages + crashes on DS4

Hello everyone,

I am writing this out of sheer frustration because the lack of clarity on the Daz Store regarding Daz Studio 6 compatibility is becoming a massive waste of time and money.

This is now the second time in a row that I buy a product from the official store only to find out it is completely broken or incompatible with Daz Studio 6. There is absolutely no warning or version limit stated on the product pages. When a new major software version is out, users reasonably assume that store assets work, unless specified otherwise.

To make matters worse, testing these products on Daz Studio 4 isn't even a reliable workaround anymore.

Here is my experience with the last two purchases:

  1. AniLip 3: Completely incompatible with Daz Studio 6. I have already requested and obtained a refund for this one.

  2. UltraScenery2: This is a product developed directly by Daz 3D, so one would expect perfect integration. Instead, not only is it a mess on Daz 6, but when I tried to run it on Daz Studio 4 as a fallback, it causes constant crashes every two minutes. It's completely unstable and unusable.

Honestly, I am extremely annoyed that I have to request yet another refund, this time for a Daz-published product like UltraScenery2. I hate doing this because I don't want Daz support to think I am abusing the 30-day money-back guarantee, but I cannot pay for products that don't work due to poor store management.

Daz really needs to force vendors to update their compatibility labels immediately, and they should lead by example with their own products. Is anyone else experiencing constant crashes with UltraScenery2 on DS4 or other compatibility issues on the new version?

    it's the other way around

https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-beta which evolved into DAZ Studio 6, is an addon in effect to D|S4 for 5### Nvidia card users and Apple Mac users

due to hardware incompatibility for rendering

the threads linked clearly explain the limitations

its recommended you have BOTH installed precisely because plugins and scripts with few exceptions won't work

you set upand save in 4 and open and render in 6 if your hardware needs it

All plugins require an update to work with DS6. That has been stated since Daz introduced DS6 alpha. Same for the fact that some scripts do not work with DS6.
However I agree that removing the "compatible software" section on the store page was a very bad idea since now you can't easily see what is compatible by with DS6.

No, it's not. This is a product developed by Howie, sold as a Daz Original. And yes, a DS6 version is planned according to the support thread.

Exactly, you hit the nail on the head. Removing the "compatible software" section from the store pages is precisely what makes this so frustrating. As a customer, I shouldn't have to scavenge through Alpha or Beta support threads just to find out if a product I am paying for today will actually open in the current official version of the software.

Thank you for clarifying that UltraScenery2 is developed by Howie and sold as a Daz Original; the branding definitely made me think it was a direct Daz product. It's good to know a DS6 version is planned.

Thanks to both of you for your replies and for helping me understand how Daz is handling this transition. I really appreciate your feedback!

I think you are completely correct to complain about the poor advertising page for US2. DAZ should update each and every page to EXPLICITLY STATE which scripts and which plugins work with which software version. It is utterly unacceptable for DAZ to abnegate their responsibility for ensuring this is stated. The contract, when you buy something, is not with the PA, it is with DAZ, and they are the ones putting up the advertising, and creating the shop. It is their responsibility to ensure the displayed price and sales blurb is correct and not misleading. To fail to mention that it currently doesn't work with the latest flagship software is misleading and unacceptable. If the advert said 'Doesn't work with DS6, but is planned to by 2027(or whenever)' is an acceptable statement that doesn't mislead anyone. Regards Richard.

I completely agree with everything you said, Richard. You hit the nail on the head. DAZ's complete shirking of its responsibility for product compatibility is unacceptable. Thank you for your support; you've explained the crux of the problem perfectly.

DS6 only came out a few weeks ago, so I would assume scripts and plug-ins don't work on it unless stated otherwise. But Daz should definitely say something on product pages one way or the other.

Ultrascenery is a very demanding piece of software, and if your PC isn't up to the task of running it you're toast. I couldn't get the original Ultrascenery to work consistently without freezing or crashing till I got some more memory for my machine. US2 is still a step too far for me. Maybe if you reboot your PC and run nothing else but Daz you might make it work. When it does, it's worth it!

No, it doesn't load because it's loaded by dsb script which doesn't work anymore in DS 6. You can go to the folder of Aiko 4.cr2, search Aiko 4.dsb, delete it or remove it. Then load Aiko 4 in Content Library.

That would also apply to Girl 4 and Victorial 4 and others that were part of Gen 4. How do I do that?

Victoria 4 works fine(aiko 4 is just a morph preset) it's the DSB script that's no longer supported.

You'll need to remove the DSB script, or make a sub directory containing only the CR2 to use it in studio now.

The issue here, you won't get the Powerloader screen, nor will 3delight materials be loaded.

Other file formats that have been retired are daz, dso, dsd, dsv, and ds.

This means many material presets won't work either as they are ds format files.

The only way to get around some of these problems is to load them in DS 4 and save as a scene subset(for full figures) and Material preset for materials.

Now, before anybody freaks out about needing to go back and forth between the poser and daz studio formats, you don't need to.

What i recommend is to create a "Link" directory for your poser assets, and you won't ever have to leave the daz studio format again.

This script, will create Link(DJL) files for every asset in the directroy or drive selected in content library when run. NOTE: THIS SCRIPT WON'T CREATE A LINK FOR THE DSB FILE ONLY THE CR2.

One thing to be aware of, the script will put the link files in the highest folder listed in CDM(content directory manager) by default(though you can select a different folder in the popup), and the file path will be one directory down from what's listed in CDM.

The "default" top directory in CDM is "My Daz 3D Library", and the poser format link directories will start at "Runtime".

I recommend making a new directory, adding it to CDM, and putting it at the top of the list of Daz Studio formats.

After the links are created you can move the directory to any folder you want, and keep or remove the links folder

Be aware that you should not move link(DJL) files in daz studio, as it will create copy of the original file and not a copy of the link file. If you want to move stuff around, do it in explorer.

Right click on the icon in daz studio, and in the popup select "Browse to File folder" and it will open an explorer window in the folder location.
