DAZ Character and Redshift

MasterstrokeMasterstroke Posts: 2,380

When trying to render one DAZ character in c4d with redshift, I get an error warning, telling me my GPU runs out of memory.
I am running a RTX 3060 12GB.
I can render several DAZ characters in DAZ Studio with the same GPU.
So, what is wrong with C4D and Redshift?

There is nothing wrong, DAZ characters can eat all your GPU memory if you are not careful, set all subdivision levels to zero or one if you have any and start from there, hair is usually a big offender, try to turn off some meshes (hair...) and see if that helps (just to find out what the problem is, polygon hair can usually be optimized a lot without loosing any quality).

Check the vertex count for each object (Right click in object manager and click Object Information) and see if you have any crazy high values (again.... hair).

These are two different renderers, they may use memory in different ways so it's difficult to compare but Redshift is not known for being GPU memory friendly.

I assume you are not running other application that eat your GPU memory.

I don't use Redshift often so I don't know if the Automatic Memory Management is still turned off by defult, if it is, turn it on and see if that helps.

Just out of curiosity, what version is your character and how did you export it to C4D ? that could have some impact, G9 can be a road to hell if you are not careful.
