I actually sort of finished the Damascus Steel limb swirls for my OC. But it was just enough to complete the real 2D drawing.
Maybe I shouldn't have deleted the kitbashed outfit render, but when I do this I pose the DAZ figure and make it wear an approximation of what I want. Here, I threw in Aeon Soul's Newsletter freebie "Rosly Vest" and then a hood and pants (can't remember which pants.) I eyeballed the render and then added my own touches to it. Finally, I flat colored the lineart. (I actually wanted this bunny's eyebrows in my freebie, but I felt they were too stylized.)
Anyway, I cannot render him in DAZ. The rabbit ears I own for G9 don't look like his.
Since this is a forum for DAZ, I did make another quick render with the stripes WIP. (I'm tempted to burn these onto a tanned skin that's similar to my OC's. I could probably get away with using these rabbit ear props, but he's not going to look the same. I'm very happy with the finished 2D pic, but the 3D one is going to feel like a failure.) The stripes are on Lucas 9, who I bought last night and I added Charlie 9 in the back.
Speaking of Lucas 9 and Charlie 9, I remember that I had initially passed on both since I thought that Wagner 9 was good-enough for my "skinny guy" needs. I regret not rendering Wagner here, but I don't remember seeing a comparison of Lucas and Charlie, so I made one real quick. Wagner has very defined legs, at least the SD version I always use. Maybe I'll update this post later with all 3, when I'm not too busy. Updated with a render. No skin textures, so you can see their shapes more clearly...though I made them wear boxers as a precaution against my images being pulled.
Lucas has very slim legs, which I feel I should try with my OC, Ernest, who is supposed to have the inverted triangle build. I really want to redo his body preset, so I will experiment with Lucas. Charlie's body is good for another OC, but I bought him because his face can also pass for a Hispanic character. Something I didn't realize until I saw promo pics of him styled differently at another store. (Here is a link to deviantART, with an example. The eyes are definitely from Menfis HD, so I assume the skin as well.) With the aforementioned dA pic, I find it amusing that Charlie was concieved as a small, due to living through the 1930s Depression Era, but Kaos3D made him huge, as is his style. X'D
Speaking of Menfis, I need to see if anyone made a comparison render between him and John 9.
According to my laptop, I did this render of bluejaunte's Amala, but converted to G9, back on August 18th, and then just forgot to share it because I've been busy. I also think I deleted the scene with her. Oops. She is using BJ Akki's skin, for the sake of using assets from the same artist. I don't remember why I wanted to make her a "pink Barbie blonde" for this pic. Likely to contrast more from the backdrop.
Once again, I got busy and had to be AFK for a bit. I decided to redo my OC, Ernie, and I feel this depiction is "closer" to what I had envisioned. I liked the previous version's chin though. He uses Mousso's Kim as a base, along with other G8F Mousso characters, and a few male heads. (He is the older brother of another OC who uses Kim as a base, and with G9, I just needed to do a few tweaks.) I just threw the Cyberpunk Outfit on him, may re-render this later with him wearing a suit. (He became a head of state in my story, after all.) But Ernie was always supposed to be an alt boy, even if he has rugged/rustic(?) aesthetic preferences.
This is the OC who needs the glowing robotic red eye.
For the sake of not bumping my own thread further; I am very disappointed that Mousso's G9 characters all have 8K textures. The file sizes are huge, that's not counting all the HD morphs. I only have two of her G9 characters -- Kim (because she's Chanel remade but her download size is 710 MB) and Carrie (download size pt1: 553 MB & pt2: 408 MB). The good thing is that I have the old Figure Converter script, so I will just move up her characters to G9. Just need to vent.
I don't think I will render him wearing a suit. IDK what is up with him, but my own subconsious creativity wants him wearing anything other than a suit. So the Cyberpunk Outfit will stay.
Right now, I am currently trying to recolor his outfit in GIMP, since the way each piece is mapped doesn't have options to recolor the trim, body, etc. within DS itself. The color palette I chose is his "default" one which is based off of a Kingdom Hearts Mickey Mouse design. (Hence the dark blue.) I have done only the bodysuit and jacket. I am working on the belt next and will likely do the boots, since they're supposed to be yellow like the cuffs. I'm still unsure of the shorts and pants. But the shorts might be red and the pants might be black like the bodysuit. The belt will be brown with silver accents.'
The hair was also difficult to color. Its textures are on a 4096 x 2048 image map and IDK how it's UV mapped, but 3DCoat hated it. So I had to guess where the lighter and darker parts went, while coloring in GIMP and checking in DS. I wanted more a more "salt and pepper" color scheme for his hair than solid gray. But it didn't work out. Perhaps, I should download Blender on this laptop and see if Blender likes the hair. (Prefer using a 3D app to plan out colors and to tweak the seams.)
I also didn't realize how slim I remade him. But then, his body is 70% Lucas 9 and 40% Michael 9. I also used one of Sickleyield's free morphs (the "tortilla chip" one), but I can't remember the amount. It was likely 20% - 30%, since I don't usually mix large amounts. I guess I'm so used to seeing this OC wearing long, loose clothing, that I even get tricked into thinking he is a builkier man with a more "hunky" build.
I think I fixed what was wrong with 3DCoat where it crashed when using the Paint Bucket/Fill option. I checked on "Use Color Tolerance" and it no longer crashes. I may change the boot colors, but the main shoe part must remain yellow. This is what I meant by "Kingdom Hearts Mickey Mouse" color palette.
Not sure if I would make another OC wear a similar outfit, to color it to their main color palette. I've seen the official texture add-on, and I only like that main "Lavender" Lucy color.
Okay, I put Ernie in a suit. (Used the dForce Padrino Outfit that comes with Neanderthal 9.) I changed his hair style too, to the SBH that comes with geserty's/eman's Henry G9. I have mixed feelings about the result, which you can see here:
I don't see my OC here; no ounce of Ernie anywhere! This is the only "bad" part about this. But, he looks like decent "character actor," if you want a "Golden Age of Hollywood," guy in it. Will definitely recycle his shaping preset for this purpose. I need to figure out what is making him not feel like my OC, if you know what I mean. Is it the hair, the type of clothes, etc.?
All is left is to recolor his pants for the Cyberpunk Outfit. Will get to it in a minute.
The dForce version of the Urban Noise FM hoodie didn't work when I used it. Or maybe it's freaking out because I am trying to make a male G9 wear it. It and the other variant were on my wishlist for the longest time but mostly because I couldn't decide between the default colors and the styles. I prefer the closed/zipped up style, but liked the camo colors of the open/unzipped one more. Another closed variant was released elsewhere, so I decided to buy the open one from here. The idea was that if I liked this after trying it out, I'd get the other closed variant to have both tops with the shared pants and shoes.
I will try to see if reinstalling it would solve this issue. But that won't be until later.
Here is an example of what happened with the dForce "basic" one that just tangled up. Next to it is the regular, non-dForce one that probably works as intended because I just used a few of its movement morphs to achieve the look I want. (None of these renders are from the "start from emmorized pose" setting.)
I did try a simple standing pose too and it still got tangled up. I don't even think my character's body is weirdly shaped. (What is happening with the hood???)
There was no reviews of this product either (as of the time I am writing this post), just some link complaining about a past sale. I took a chance, because I have never had any problems similar to this with other clothes by Aeon Soul. They all look and work great. (Their dForce Everyday2 outfit is one of my most all-time favorites from them and I am still disappointed that it just didn't get natively upgraded to G9.)
It's almost messed up that I don't see reviews anymore with the free version of the DAZ Deals extension either, which renders it even more useless for me. But that is not the extension's fault, it's the fact that users just aren't talking and linking to the products in the forums. I've seen other reviews on some DAZ Discords, but those are terrible places to post reviews. They are closed/private spaces and I've seen/formerly been part of other servers were one of the people running it has some sort of hissy-fit and deletes the server out of spite. A website like the store is less likely to get deleted. But nothing is safe.
Maybe I will try again later with it, even though this week is going to be super busy. Ugh. I guess I'm just disappointed because I wanted to like it since it's something many of my OCs would wear.
(I will also try to post more reviews on my thread, at least of products I like but don't seem to have any reviews linked to it.)
I have been so busy and I am finally back, I think. (The Urban Noise FM Outfit, the dForce part, still isn't fixed and I don't think it would be.)
Anyway, I once read a post written by a DAZ user who also used AI claiming that with AI, the wardrobe would be expanded. I agree to an extent, but the problem I found with the free/accessible AIs (Copilot, in this case) is that it keeps changing up the face. So here is a bunch of pics of my OC, Ernie, but I used the previous suit version of him as the base. I have put the AI images I got the clothes from. All this is a photoset I have posted to my deviantART account.
And yes, I have a guilty pleasure of feeding AI more AI imagery just to see what it'll spit out next.
I actually want to retexture a hoodie like the last pic. I love it and want a consistent reference for future renders. I just need to figure out with asset will be getting hand-painted by me to vaguely resemble the AI image hoodie.
This is first thing I tried to render, but it ended up being "mixed media" as my friend put it. The reason is because I wanted to make a custom album cover because Microsoft nuked its music metadata catalog/library several weeks ago. And I don't like seeing the album covers blank in my music library, so I will resort to make my own "mixtape" styled albums.
Since it's more AI than DAZ, I have uploaded it to DeviantART.
This cover was an AI image I asked Copilot to make, but then I edited a DAZ character (G9) face over it. My urge to draw over/tamper with pics is so strong that, that's probably why DAZ is like my side art hobby, and not my main one. All that is left is for me to add the lettering. I'm bad at typography. I will treat this unwritten pic as the final image, for now.
Unfortunately, I think I may have accidentally deleted the original DAZ render I used. But, since I planned to keep reusing the character, I saved her head shaping preset. So I made another quick, unaltered render, in an attempt to show what the before was like.
I quite like this
I love it when DAZ just disappears into the art.
Another no-AI project, which mostly is just trying to retexture a clothing asset for my personal use. Today, I am trying to make a camoflauge jacket using Mada's Bolt Outfit for Genesis 9. I even checked the official texture add-on to make sure there was no camo option (because I don't want to do something that already exists.) I have been wanting a jacket without hoodie with a camoflauge design. (But I am not picky with the pattern, because there are a lot of patterns.)
Here is my WIP. All that is left is to think of a nice color for the collar, cuffs, hem, and that geometric texture in the back. (I have loaded the original normal maps to check.)
I used this Wikimedia pattern [x]. I did move some of the "pixels" around in the sleeves and shoulders, so it could look "better."
In my previous attempt to redress my OC, Ernest, one of the results was this jacket. I prefered this design over the one I shared as the "final" result. (The final result had a better body with proportions. This one was stout and had a huge head.)
I will try to redraw my own version of this design, by hand/mouse/stylus, on the Bolt Outfit. But first, I will practice with the camo texture.
Here is the jacket texture, so far, rendered on G9. (My OC, Gina, the younger sister of Ernest. His shape based off of her.) I need to figure out the Omni Hair shader settings because her hair is supposed to be really black, (that's how it's described in the story) and IDK what went wrong here.
I think I will have to export the whole outfit, so I can color it more cohesively in 3DCoat. I also want the camouflage pattern on the pants to be the same size as the jacket. The jacket drapes on her strangely since her body is made out of two unsupported shapes -- HH Belle Body @ 50% and Kaede 9 Body @ 50%.
Her hair is the Lyanna Hair for G9, which is only available if you buy HM's Night Burokrat Bundle. There is a G8F version, which I haven't bought as of this comment.
But then, many of my OCs are easy to [re]make with G9, so I haven't used G8F and G8M in a long time. I'm only tempted to go "backwards" because there's several G8 outfits and shoes I like that fit best natively. ^^;
I have finished the Base/Diffuse map for the jacket. It is 2k (2048 x 2048 pixels). I'm only doing the color maps for these and reusing the default normals, roughness, etc. I was considering making the geometric back patch a browner color, but I feel like the "gold" would add to its "weirdness." I used a cloth filter in GIMP to make the back patch, bottom hem, collar, and cuffs. They would look a bit strange, if I didn't at least try to give them a texture.
Today I worked on the pants. Might as well make every material zone be a different color. In the front and back panels of these pants, I rotated the camo design so the pixelation would look different.
Unfortunately, in my cutting and pasting, I have left a seam. I'll try to fix it later, since the WIP is saved in a Photoshop (.PSD) file. I decided that I might as well go with a "camo and gold" color palette. (More shots of the seam and the back)
I think the boots and the necklace will be easier to do, but we'll see. I kind of want the boots to be yellow and this darker bronze color of the trim, I'm using; to make them look like Timberland boots. Might make the top yellow/gold too.
I've seen no reviews for Sally's Kitchen for DAZ Studio, but it is a great little set with movable parts. I just need to come up with an idea for a scene. The only "downside" is figuring out what to use for the rest of the house. But it is a great vignette, regardless. DIM also tells me its installed size is 67 MB, which is good because everything seems to be 200 MB or more nowadays.
And yes, you can move the clock, here is a screenshot.
Since I don't want to bump this thread when it's not a screenshot or artwork. If you look in the textures (found in the "Runtime" folder), there are jokes written on the textures in the parts that don't show up on the model. I'm not going to spoil the jokes, but if you have this product, you can take a peek and get a chuckle out of them like me. 15/10 product.
I have posted a render of a character I got from Renderhub named Bristol, in the DAZ3D galleries. [x]
I still need to work on the Bolt Outfit textures though. But today, I got side-tracked because a lizard got trapped inside my washing machine. I found it inside when I opened the top/lid. It most likely entered the garage because it was hiding in one of the plants. How it got inside the washing machine is a mystery that I'll never understand..
Here is a render of the Bolt Pants and Jacket, so far, but with my OC, Giacomo, wearing them.
I need to find short, curly hair for him; both strand and polygonal. Also, have to figure out how to get his hair color the "correct" shade. It's more red and brown, than orange. (Somehow, not even purposely planning, I managed to get skin and eyes in colors that are what I feel are accurate for him.) Anyway, the hair color should fit in with the skin.
Somewhat related, but some time ago, my friend reblogged a "fantasy boots" post from Tumblr that had various characters from game/TV/book franchises wearing said boots. But the boots were the promo image of BadKittehCo's Bootleggers 2. The one who posted it on Tumblr cut off the name of the product at the top. So I'll be petty and not link to their "original" post.
Anyway, my friend told me that she thinks Giacomo would look good in these boots. I told my friend these boots are a DAZ Studio asset, so they are "cheap" to buy. The problem is that these boots are not available for G9 or G8M, figures that Giacomo has been recreated in. I also have doubts that BadKittehCo will update these to G9 since they've pretty much stopped posting new products on here since Genesis 9 started. This would be tricky to do, since these boots come with a lot of extra parts. Somehow, it seems like it would be easier to recreate Giacomo's head in G8F and use that for whenever I want to make him wear these boots...
She's a cutie!
