I have rarely found a wishlist item in either QG or the Outlet. That might be due to purchasing like crazy over the past ten years the items I wanted without restraint. The only items I have found to buy have been highlighted by others in the G2 thread or other threads, or I have been searching for something and double-checked a PA's products again.
Premiere or not to. I chose not to. I have watched the characters that have been released and I think there was one I did wish I could have it. One. But there is no way I would log in D|S and allow that handshake to destroy my metadata and thumbnails again. Never again. Yes, members get better financial deals than DAZ+ but it is not worth the destruction of my database. I can live without Premiere.
G9 vs G8/G8.1 or G3 - each time there was a change over I felt a kick in the pants. But I went with the flow. Some products have never caught up for G9 from the PAs.
I am more worried about how many much loved scripts/plug-ins will fall to the side when DS6 is the go to program and DS4 is kicked to the curb.
While we are here debating G8/G9 (again), there is a chance for 32% on GCs.
It just takes a measly six new items as a buyin, three today for 20%, three from Rells day for another 15%.
As I already did that for Rell two days ago, and see nothing on todays offer that is a "want have" I will pass this chance.
If you go for a GC at 300+ it may pay off, though, and bring you through the MM.
I'm feeling the same way, I’d rather go back to the Pro Bundle era, when G9 actually felt promising, than deal with the G9 character coupon for Premier, where the very premise meant to make the Tier attractive ended up undermining the product itself. I'm always holding some hope for Thursdays.
Weird.. I thought he was some marrying guys and girls to each other. Didn't know that the roman army had any female soldiers in it.
And about QuickGrab: usually nearly all items that (could/would/do) interest me turn up in the "already owned" part of the shop. Rarely there is one that would interest me to pay for it. Even more rare are the times when of the ~60 wishlisted items turns up.
People are different, right?!?
Valentine's story seems to be a bit more complex and obscur according to the Catholic Church. Apparently in reference to what FrankTheTank mentioned, if a man was married he couldn't be sent to war. So the army might have an issue with that. But I suggest reading the article, it is interesting.
FYI the Gift card discounts from today and "We are Harpy (...)" banners do stack!
About those Gift Cards Stacking... Don't forget to use BOOST-MY-LOVE if you're going over $200! the card will be at 39% off. Actual % saved will be a little less due to the 6 needed for buy-in if you compare afterwards as if you didn't have to use the buy-ins of course. Also that Coupon IS NOT a single use coupon ;)
It stacked a few days ago. Maybe they "fixed" it.
there is one of my WL items at 50% off today, and I, well, all of us, can get an EXTRA 50% off if you buy one of those $5.99 products. Sp in reality, my WL item is 80% which is then $5.40 plus $5.99 = $11.39. 50% off is $13.50. So $2.11 savings. Only problems those Valentine's Special Releases $5.99 are some slim pickings, that i dont want. What's going on here at DAZ? Or is it me. just done. Fried and flipped over a couple times.
Well, it's working out pretty well for me. One of the $5.99 items resulted in 2 WL items going for $3.40 and $3.38 (and both of those WL items work with G8 and G9) so I'm happy with this little sale.
https://www.daz3d.com/tw-ktarya-for-genesis-3-and-genesis-8-female-s ($$9.58), is in the Humanoids selection from the still active Rell & Harpy banner from a few days ago. But it's part of https://www.daz3d.com/ktarya-bundle-for-genesis-3-and-genesis-8-female-s which is in Outlet for $3.49
With a few minor exceptoions, your path sounds about the same as mine. I got into 3D with Poser 5, discovered DAZ and Renderosity, and played with the early versions of DS occasionally until DS3 came around and it started to approach Poser in capabilities. Both programs, though, were clunky in how they handled clothes fitting... the DS4 and Genesis came out and I finally found a program that covered most of the bases I needed and was far more intuitive. Autofit was a truly major game changer and even though the V4 generation were still better figures in a lot of respects... they even had individual bones for each toe.. Genesis could use most of my earlier gen assets and textures with GenX and was just so much more fun to use. Genesis 2 was a big improvement and Genesis 3 with Iray blew me away. Genesis 8 was not as huge of an upgrade, but still a very good figure. Genesis 8.1... er, I really wan't impressed, as I felt the new features weren't really worth the losses in backwards compatibility, and I have still yet to warm to Genesis 9, which feels like what happens when a design team is more interested in meaningless specs and "new" features just for the sake of being new, making some (IMHO) really dumb design decisions that cripple the final result. As such, though I do try to use the G9 figures when a render isn't too complex, I'm just not happy with a lot of the PBR skins, the posing is still plagued with issues, and, like so much of the new stuff at DAZ, it's a massive resource hog. So, these days I've very much fallen back to using G3 and G8 as my primary figures and with a huge and still growing library of new G8 assets out there, I suddenly find myself empathizing with those folks who opted to stick with V4 all those years ago. Everyone's mileage will vary, but "newer" doesn't always mean "better", and I'm finding myself much happier with the results I'm getting even if I'm not embracing the latest generation of technogeekery.
I have been on Premiere since not long after it started and I have not let Daz log in in years. The only missing things are the premier-only characters (largely add-on shapes to the main characters) and I think some utilities. All the benefits I was interested in - the extra tokens, sale discounts, free bundles - don't involve logging in on Daz itself.
Hmmm.. wild cart recipe
...not G8 necessarily as true, those items show up in the OS i nresonable numbers. What I'm interested in seeing is a more even balance between G9 content and other categories like props, sets, and such in QG. There have been times that G9 content has almost totally dominated QG.
With the OS it gets to a point I've bought what needed/wanted from there and see little reason to go back anymore until I hear that new products have been rotated in (whch may not happen for months).
Is that Products overall or Products that you don't have. My own experince with QG is that there are, on average, 90 items in QG at a time, but I'll be lucky if 10 of them are items I don't already have and even luckier if 5 of them are items I actually want, as I've really picked over the older products both here and at Rendo. If you're seeing a preponderance of G9 product, that would seem to indicate that those are items that aren't selling well, which would seem to be a ominousd ratio for the newest figure base. As for props, ets, etc., welll... I don't expect to see a lot of those until they get a bit older, as they don't have as much of a foreshortened "shelf life" to the extent that figure assets such a Characters, Clothing, and Hair do. I'm still happily using sets that were made for poser, after all, and many of them not only look as good as many newer sets, but also hog a lot less resources..
soon enough we will be getting G10 or whatever they decide to call it. Hopefully back to the male and female versions. THEN, the G9 stuff will get a lot cheaper, as will G8. G3 will probably be the items free or near free. I have to say, even though by now I've gooten quite a bit of G9 products, overall I still like G8 a lot more. Even G3.
Nah it'll be the Ultimate Morphable Blob that can become anything
...+1
I often find G9 products (that aren't new releases) for less than G8 prices. G9 goes on sale a lot, and is even in QG. I really don't see a price advantage for new G8 characters on sites that still offer them. It took me a little while to get used to G9, and now I use it as much or even more, than I do G8. I actually like the single basic body, although at first I didn't. I think it's because PAs have adapted to G9 and are able to create outstanding characters with it. For scenes that require more than 3 characters, my PC works better with G8.
YMMV, but it seems to me that omparing older G9 here at DAZ vs brand new G8 elsewhere is a bit of a strawman argument, in the end. A dollar to dollar comparison of older G8 here versus older G9 here, on the other hand, is a more direct comparison that obviously weighs out heavily in favor of G8 given DAZ's penchat for slashing the pricing on everything.on a generation wide basis. As far as the quality of the characters goes, while there is some excellent work, I have to say that I find a lot of the G9 characters to look awfully similar and, especially in the case of the males, to be rather cartoonish and have skin textures that look less natural when compared to their G8M and G3M counterparts, and then, of course, there are the posing issues and the resource issues. Mind you, I had many of the same issues with a lot of G8.1 products as well... they both feel like a change for the sake of change rather than real improvements.
Well, for the last few months Outlet has rotated on the first of the month (or near enough) in contrast to that first really long chunk when it was new. Not always a lot of change (judging only by what of my WL comes/goes) though.
I've noticed that a lot of what's in QG (that I'm interested enough to consider, anyway) was in OS at the next highest tier about 5 months ago. So if you got it then, it wouldn't show up. I also wonder what sort of arrangement is involved with it... some PAs seem to turn up a lot, and some not at all. It might be that the ones who focus more on propls and sets haven't opted in. I'd definitely have a lot more use for that stuff than all the offered characters and hairs (or any generation) so I wouldn't mind an increase for my own sake, but I'm sure there are people who would like the opposite, too.
Overall, I feel kinda bad for you folks who have been around (and shopping) forever, as the selection of what's around that you haven't passed by 100 times already has to be slim. I'm lucky in that starting releatively recently and having a finite budget means that I've been around long enough to know what I need/want (or at least, might possibly use) but not long enough to have bought it all yet
Agreed, I still prefer G3/G8 as well. I will acknowledge that G9 is great for toon renders, though the number of releases for Filatoon seem to have dropped dramatically.
You don't need G9 to use Filatoon shaders. You can use Filatoon shaders on anything. In fact, I'd say Genesis 2 figures and hair are the hidden gems to use with Filatoon shaders and they look way better than anything I've seen for G9. Genesis 2 had a different feel to it, many of the characters were more stylized, and the hair was very simple and works well with filatoon shading, making them much more ready to go straight to toon look with very little fuss.
This all sounds good, but most of your answer is completely subjective. What looks good to you, might not look good to someone else. What you like is valid for you, just as what someone else likes is valid for them. What is quantifiable is pricing, and I've been able to get some really good prices on G9 here on DAZ, by extremely talented PAs.I have found G9s, which are much newer than G8, for the same or less. It doesn't make sense to compare older G9s here on DAZ with older G8s because G8s on DAZ are really old. For me this makes the G9 an even better deal if the prices are close. The only way to compare a new G8 is to use the prices on sites that feature new G8s as well as G9. I find the prices almost the same.
I haven't abandoned G8; some of my favorite characters are G8s. I just buy far fewer of them now.
...hard to tell with the OS as the entire selection doesn't completely change over like QG does (for the last several months that baseball bat and baseball by Xivon has been at the top of the product list).
Yeah, I've been at this for a fair number of years (not as many as some of the others here), but even then never was a "big spender" who could afford to load up a cart every time as even when I was working I wasn't making much given the living costs out here where I live. Hence I have been a long time PC/D+ member until the change to the subscription model. For myself, 15 - 20 USD is a "big cart" as I am now on a very meagre SS pension. I never bothered with Premiere and only sign up for a month of Daz+ when I know there will be a good sales event forthcoming (like next month). Because of this I don't have fistfuls of tokens to throw around (I believe the most I ever had was 11 during the Holiday Sale some of which expired before I got to use them).
Speaking of tokens, I was a bit disappointed when they changed token value a while back as when the promotion was first introduced, using 8 tokens gave you 40% off on everything in the cart, not just DOs. I can paartly see why, as many base characters and character bundles are DOs.
Sales also just seemed to be simpler and better years ago with incentives like coupons, vouchers (no longer around), and other discounts all stacking to allow for some incredible deals, The closest we came recently to that was the October Anniversary Sale with the discounts for Doorbusters along special coupons and some sort of "tokens" (I forgot what they were called) you got for downloading a small daily freebie (which eventually added up to a 60% discount on Doorbuster items). The Holiday Sale was pretty good as long as you kept your punches up to date.
Needless to say my wishlist is loaded with items waiting to pass that 60 day "new" status so they start showing up on sales (at least 4 or 5 of them are recent Stonemason releases including the two that just came out the other day).
Aiko and Hiro 3 also work great with Filatoon
I think those Xi products were created specifically for the Outlet. They showed up when it opened, and have been there the whole time. Given the average age of everything else in the Outlet, I suspect it'll be a while before they're no longer the newest thing there.
There are a bunch of Zeddicuss G8 pose sets that have been there since fall, though, and I suspect other stuff as well that I didn't care enough to WL.
I hope they keep the unified base: it's useful to be able to use clothes (without caring if they were rigged to a masculine or a feminine figure) or props (without having to move it) or expressions (after all, a smile is a smile…), regardless of the gender of the figure you want to use.
There is at least a third reason: the Daz store's sales are based on heavy discount and they saw no reason to change how they are operating with Genesis 9.
