just an observation - omni hair shaders don't render in DS 6 Alpha 6.25

Like it says in the subject line.

I have an RTX 5080 so I am running DS6 (I mean, I don't *have* to run on GPU, but I get better renders than if I use the CPU).

I notice that while omni shaders are aplied correctly, from insecting the details in the Surfaces tab, I don't get them rendering correctly - mostly coming out black.

Is this just me or is this a quirk of the set up, or whatever ?

The base shader or the material sets for it?

you probably dont have the shaders installed in your shader folder.  i dont mean the .dsa i mean the .mdl

  • OK, I'm using 3rd-party Omni shader sets for hair, and I have the base Omni shader.  I apply the Omni then I apply the colour shaders, but the hair remains black.  I can manually change the settings in the hair shader tab, but was just wondering why none of the hair shader collections work. Those were working fine in DS 4.

Have you checked the log file after apoplying the shader and prset, and after trying to render?

    go to C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio6\shaders\iray\OmniSurface

    and check you installed them

    also check your driver?

Thanks for reply.  I do have the MDLs installed and I am using just an example hair ( the issue occurs with all hair using omni shaders ).  There appears to be no issue with the rendering process.

  • No matter which colour I apply, the hair always renders black.

There is no error or unusual report in the log file after rendering, either.

What does the editor tab of the Surfaces pane look like after applying the shader preset?

    Here we go...

select one of the surfaces that should be changing (click with the Surface Selection tool if you can't deduce that from the names), currently the shader is given as <Multiple> which doesn't help with diagnosis.

  • Here are screenshots showing the tab for each part of the hair

OK, it looks as if the right shader is applying which is one potential issue out of the way.

  • Just for the sake of showing that the shader application problem exists across hair products, here's the Lauralei Hair with the white shader applied.  DS6 alpha has some issues interpreting the sahders.
