@danmast That's just the way it is here. Every day, something in the store is broken, and change over has issues. It seems that it was worse starting 12/31, and I don't know that it's all better. But really, nothing unusual is happening here.

I've been using the store for years. I know that. It doesn't make it ok, and the reason it's not improved for decades is because people seem to accept it. If a local store you shop at had issues like this on a daily basis (overcharging you at the checkout due to glitches with their discounts, adding restrictions to their sales in the middle of the day that weren't there in the morning and aren't on the posters, not accepting coupons or vouchers because their system is buggy, etc.), it'd go out of business fast. And this happens on a daily basis, not a rare few times each year. People wouldn't keep shopping at that store

Everything you say sounds right. And yet, here we are. It's absurd on the face of it, but AFAIK, that's how it's always been here. One thing to factor in: Daz has a way of giving back to us for our patience. Maybe it'll be a really good flash sale or some other promo, maybe it's when they honor a sale that's clearly a mistake and goes far in the customer's favor, or maybe it's an extra freebie. Whatever it is, a lot of us are not leaving. There may be some griping, but there's precious little real rancor. Because what can we actually do about it anyway? It is the way it is!

Put it this way: Renderosity has no trouble making all their sales work exactly as intended. And if your idea of fun is spending $5 or more for a 10-15 year old V4/M4 product, indulge yourself! I've been there and I buy something occasionally. I do. I like some of the products there. Here is where I spend the bulk of my content money. Warts and all, it appears that I prefer shopping here. And based on the number of Rendo vendors who migrated here, it appears many of them prefer vending here. So, that's how it is. angel

I agree partially. If the store's prices were just OK and the same as the other folks the things you mention would drive me away, but as DAZ will from time to time have prices that beat every other store I know of out there AND they are the ones developing the software I use, I will deal with it. As much as they make me super annoyed from time to time, they have one of the best products for this sort of hobby, and money going to another store doesn't keep the company whose product I use in business. Any money to another store doesn't allow for future improvements to be made on the product I use. And even though some of the bugs are sometimes super annoying with sales that don't work right and don't give the price you should expect, often enough the same is true in our favor. I have had many times I have gotten insane deals no other store would get close to matching with calculations I can't figure it out. Not this past winter season, but the winter before that there was like a 3 day period where almost all DO gen 8 era products could be had for 98% off if you stacked the sales with a something like a $20 buying on as many items as you want. I couldn't figure out how the math on the deals worked out to make the items 98% off, but I was super happy with it.

Insane deals no other store can get close to. Yes! Especially during the big sales. I walked off with $955 in megabundles and bundles in the 12/21 bundle sale for about $15. Are you kidding me? All I could possibly say is "Thank you, Daz!"

  • XiousDsXiousDs Posts: 562
I honestly think today's deals are pretty dang good for premier members already with 8 tokens. I can buy 2 items I don't want for a combined price of about $17 to enable picking up 5 gen 9 character bundles for 98 and 97% off. For the true price you would need to factor in adding $3.52 per item from the buy in price. The 5 gen 9 bundles would cost a little over $10, so using the $10 DO coupon almost negates all of the 5 add on or character bundles costs. So the end cost for 5 gen 9 character or add on bundles ends up being $17 for buy in and a few extra dollars based on which specific bundles were chosen. Some folks could end up with 5 character bundles for a total cost of 1 premier coupon and $19.21. This offer however is not great if you already have all of the bundles you wanted rather than waiting for great sales like this.

Rosity has gotten very, very boring and membership-centered, I hardly buy there anymore. DAZ can get super annoying, but it's also much fun often, and if you wait a little while, you can usually get a very good price on what you want. In the real world, it would maybe be an antiques store crammed full with gorgeous stuff but totally unorganized and with unpleasantly high base prizes. But you went there once and drifted open-mouthed through the aisles and aisles filled with shiny things, and then you found out how a special membership would give you discounts, and sales would, and other sales, and still other sales, and sometimes just the day of the week would ...

It's just plain fascinating, AND shiny, AND you can get great deals. If you keep in mind to ALWAYS buy straight away if the price seems perfect - nothing turns bad as quickly as a loaded cart left in DAZland, and don't we all know that -, you can have a really fun time and practice your math.

I like the way items are presented here at DAZ.

Here at DAZ, we have a company that has been around since the "early days of Poser."

DAZ continues to offer fantastic content, and great prices.

Renderosity doesn't seem to think new content is necessary.

Ok, in fairness, Rendo has a lot of new content. They continue to support G8, have new G8, 8.1 and G9 figures and clothing. They have a lot of sets, backgrounds, effects items, etc. The problem, really, is their sales are lame and/or boring, especially compared to Daz here. And they don't offer better deals for their oldest items because they're the Home of Poser and all that old stuff works in Poser. Not my intent to bag on them, merely to point out they leave a lot of money on the table, as it were, and Daz gets that money.

On the other hand today there is a nice selection of clothing by Sue Yee, a fair number of items which are appropriate for more youthful characters.

  • @danmast That does sound bad, even for here. I hope you were able to get what you wanted eventually.

@SilverGirl & @Joanna I agree with you on QG. Even when I am not interested in what's offered it's still fun to have something to check out. I also like the Outlet. Even without a membership last month I got some cool things there, mostly for $1.99, usually on days when I picked the free Advent item, to keep up punches.

Have you tried out the gen 9 UVs to gen 8 tool? Not certain of you would be interested, but it would potentially let you find extra value from new characters by using their textures with gen 8.

And I spent here a total of ~$ 9.- in the month of December. People are different.Due to my shopping habits - only buy what you need and can afford - I rarely have a single token to use. And having to buy stuff I do not need or want to get stuff I maybe need and want for maybe 20% off isn't attractive enough. I probably have too much stuff in my runtime already and I seem interested in less mass compatible products, as stuff from my wishlist rarely shows up in the QG/Outlet. So for me it's more in the line of "Thank You, DAZ, it was fun while it lasted"

I am always curious about the stuff you are interested in vs what gets put on different sales. I say this cause you mention buying things to qualify for maybe a 20% off discount on what you actually want, but I almost never buy anything unless the cost of my total cart I at least 90% off. Just yesterday I bought 2 buy in items I cared nothing for which let me get 5 daz original character bundles at super discount. By super discount I don't mean an extra 20-40% off. I mean the total cost of 5 gen 9 DO character bundles base value of $560 and 2 items I care nothing for (which were necessary to stack the discount) were a little less than $20.50 total of store credit which I also got for about 12% cheaper when factoring the buyin on the previous 20% gift card sale thus meaning the actual cost was even less. I know some folks hate buying, but at the end of the day, I only buy stuff on super sale so I usually have lots of options when those sales come up, and as long as the buyins (expensive or not) drop the total discount of the cart to somewhere between 90-99% (based on particular vender), I am happy to buy the (to me) useless items as long as all the other stuff is from my want/future need list. BUT, if, like you said, you pretty much already have everything you want or need in your runtime, then there it's pretty much moot. A no buyin on 99% off almost everything in store is useless to the person whose items aren't included in the almost everything. Thus why I am always curious what kind of stuff are you actually still wanting that doesn't seem to be ever going on a good sale for you.

...part of my reason for not moving in G9 is outside of the "unique" characters by the likes of RawArt or Oso3D, most G9 characters don't really interest me. I tend to mix character morphs and shapes to create custom characters of my own and rarely if ever use a given character straight "out of the box" (save for those like A3, Sadie, and other toon characters)  The other (and main) reason is being retired on a meagre pension, I really cannot afford the cost of buying all the utility/merchant resource content over again for G9 to do what I already am capable of with G8 and earlier generations.

I have a large investment in utility and merchant resource content for G2 to G8 that allows me to mix morphs and shapes between all four generations.

Is not getting anything off Still New the new status quo? It's happened a couple times this week. Or is it not there because the prior day's triggers are still active? I'm not sure.

I wonder if we will reach a point this year when a Giftcard will be offered at a negative discount, like +20% to price, and reduced with buy ins to normal price :P

Please, for the love of polygonal mesh, don't give them ideas!

...hmmm the way sales work here it might glitch & give us half price GCs with purchase of any Outlet item. So maybe ignore above? J/K

Would be easier to list what I don't ever would want or need, but here are things I would like to buy

    • realistic small town buildings with doors/windows that open. Not thousands of Big City Appartments without any moveable parts and unrealistic room/appartment design
    • realistic clothes for G8/G8.1 males and females with morphs to open things that can be opened in reality (Zippers for example). Not cloth designer dreams that no average person would wear.
    • cars with motors and moveable doors and bonnets etc. Not thousands of racing/sports cars. Details like sliding doors on the wrong side of the car are a no-buy for me
    • Utility Plugins

I already got lots of the above. So having to pay too much is no option for me.

I could make the list longer, but some things I've already mentioned before: I have no need for G9 and I'm too lazy to adjust G9 stuff to G8/8.1, because my experiences with doing it are mixed. I spend not enough money here to ever get maybe a single token, so sales needing 8 token to get me a price a would be willing to pay are no sales for me.

One could just say: I'm not the type of customer that DAZ targets with their sales.

...speaking to the choir here on clothing content.

Seems there has been a marked increase in overly revealing and "sexy" as well as "minimalist" clothing products in the store as of late.

As to vehicles, I also agree and would like to see right hand drive options as well.  We finally got  a good looking standard length and "bendy" city bus.

Aeroplanes are another matter here. While there are some light aeroplanes and fighter aircraft and business jet, there is a notable lack of larger passenger aircraft.

There is  and Airbus A380 "look-alike" (that is a luxury private jet) and a couple DC-3s, but for the most part that is it.  We could use a few more realistic looking jet and propeller airliners similar to what one would see at an airport today.

There's no still new at all on the page. So on today's shop page there's no XX% off with and "Mega" Debut New. And on the Rainy page, again, there's no still new section or bonus discount on still new when a debut new is present in your cart.

For most the past year, there was always 30% off "named sale" Debut New. And there's be 30% off Still New + XX% if you also buy a Debut New. I'm asking if the trend is to eliminate the latter sales incentive?

The attached images were snapped at 2.5 hours before Daz Midnight.

I think the still new stuff still has the "normal" 30% off. But the incentive for debut item with a still item hasn't been happening of late.

As they are based on and named after "real world" aircraft (Boeing 707, 727, 737, 747, etc) it could be the reason they are not sold here.

...so a bit confused on Monday's sale,  There is no usual "base discount" (50% or 60%) shown for the Featured artist category and everything is "list price" (30% off for DOs).  Does one need to include these items as part of a BYOB to get a discount?

If so, this sale sounds like one that is only for those with deep pockets.

Most, if not all, Poser format models are usable with Daz.  You probably need to work on the shaders/textures. I still buy the odd Poser model if I can't find something similar in my budget.

(Note that Daz3D often doesn't list DS, only Poser, under compatible software for its older content - even though many of those product pages have promos watermarked Daz Studio render or list DS material presets as included.)

It's such a shame that most beautiful buildings don't have doors that can be opened and lack interior layout. It would be wonderful if add-ons with "movable doors and windows and interior layout" were available.

Regarding clothing, I really hope Daz can at least add a filter option for "whether clothing can be opened".
