[Looking for vintage VHS camcorder] Those 80s devices that take a fullsize VHS tape, as seen here https://www.reddit.com/r/camcorders/comments/18hczjb/bought_this_hitachi_vhs_camcorder_for_a_couple/

Any format Daz can import.

If it's got to be one of the full-size VHS ones, I think the one on the store is a more modern mini-tape format, so my suggestion is to head to Sketchfab:

    https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/panasonic-m5-vhs-camcorder-game-ready-model-2d60a254516b4b639a0097520c4b0db6

(Sketchfab tends to be a good place for finding semi-obscure props like this, although annoyingly it's always work to import, very often unrigged, and even if something is on there, it's not necessarily available for download).

most TV stations actually use Betamax

Oooh, tough ask. I've still got one of those sitting around, but the closest I know of in Daz is the Hi-8 sort: https://www.daz3d.com/z-90s-gadgets They came out in 1989, but if your story is before that (or the character wouldn't have access to super recent tech for whatever reason), it wouldn't work.

Wishing you luck! (Also following, because I wouldn't mind having one myself!)

Actually, newstations used Betacam, then Betacam SP and eventually Digital Betacam, not Betamax, though Sony's advertising often tried to use the Betacam connection to make Betamax sound more advanced.  The two formats are similar, but Betacam (introduced in 1982) recorded using better electronics, higher tape speeds and component video resulting in 300+ of lines of resolution, which was then considered Broadcast quality in those pre-HD days.  By comparison,  Betamax (introduced in 1975) used composite video and recorded at a much lower speed for 250 lines of resolution on its very highest quality "Beta I" mode, which was dropped on many later machines in favor of even slower speeds and lower resolution for Beta II and Beta III as Sony retooled in order to compete with VHS system designed by JVC, which had been designed to maximize recording time in order to fit an entire movie on a single tape cartridge.  The cartridges for the two machines looked similar but while a Betamax cartridge would play on the early Betacam decks, Betacam cartridges would not even fit in a Betamax deck.

  • The reason for specifically asking for VHS is that most hobby users opted for these as they had the matching VCR at home, which is the setting. The 90s thingy is neat but breaks the 80s theme.

The item Matt suggested would be perfect but Sketchfab prefers to annoy me by limiting account signup to "through Epic Games" and I don't buy that sort of shenanigans.
    I'll keep looking, thanks all.

I don't own this and other than the one image in the promo there is no information on the 'camera' but it is supposed to be for filming or transmitting (?) a reporter's broadcast from the scene.

And as I was looking at other Product requests, I found someone had offered https://www.daz3d.com/z-90s-gadgets for a TV which had a camcorder in it too.

The Breaking News Item could work, though. the 90s item is on wishlist as it is a good prop set anyway.
