I'll chime in and take the sideways conversation ... which means talking about anything except Unreal Engine! wink

If it's anything similar to a bonus from a wealthy uncle, then my allotment vote goes to: Hexagon. Why? Simply because awesome folks like Nova continue to use Hexagon to create awesome work. Reason enough to fund continued development of Hexagon. That, and basically I have soft heart for the underdog.

    Cheers!

We’re excited to announce that Daz is a recipient of an Epic MegaGrant from Epic Games! This allows us to provide a better experience when you use the Daz to Unreal Bridge and other Daz products.

    What Is an Epic MegaGrant?

Epic Games awards these specialized grants to support those who are innovative in their use of the Unreal Engine and/or bettering the 3D graphics community. This includes game developers, enterprise professionals, media and entertainment creators, students, educators, and tool developers.

In our case, we have the Daz to Unreal Bridge available for free that allows creators to transfer their Daz assets into the Unreal Engine and work from there. Not only is it incredibly easy to use, but it also gives Unreal Engine users access to our versatile and customizable character platform. This fits Epic Games’ description of a project that solves tough problems and improves workflows. We’re very grateful to receive an Epic MegaGrant!

Epic MegaGrants is a $100 million program designed to service and assist game developers, enterprise professionals, media and entertainment creators, students, educators, and tool developers doing outstanding work with Unreal Engine or enhancing open-source capabilities for the 3D graphics community.

    What’s Next?

We’re very grateful to receive an Epic MegaGrant as it will help us improve the Daz to Unreal Bridge and add new features. Plus, we plan to convert thousands more of our products and characters as we kick start the storytelling process for Unreal Engine users.

It's about time Santa came to DAZ. Merry Christmas! Thank you guys for so many years of freebies. It's great to see DAZ receiving a freebie! Congrats!

Firstly, guys: This is an old thread that's been kicked. It's not new news.

Much though I understand the disappointment of programs losing support, I feel Daz are probably right to put development of Hexagon aside. Blender exists and is basically guaranteed to have more development resources at its disposal, so basically the market for Hexagon development is people who don't really like Blender and aren't already using one of the longstanding industry go-tos like 3DS Max.

I still use the FBX files from the DAZ bridge as they don't have the duplicate nodes issues, but the bridge itself is too version dependent and stopped working for me after my C drive failure

it needs compiling apparently and I have no idea how to do that

so have gone back to my FBX, iClone 3DX6 manual export importing pipeline

(I don't use Reallusion"s bridge either, cannot, as only have iC6 and 3DX6)

with my own bone based facial expression setup using 3DX6 expression editor but I manually set up all the bone positioning for visemes and expressions so I can use different meshes/vertex order with the same bones

I had to redo profiles for genesis 3, 8, 8.1 and 9 so quite a lot of work

I still use UE4.27 when possible

I also use those 3DX6 tweaked FBX files in Twinmotion 2025

You know this thread was started in 2021, right? Someone woke a zombie and now it's walking around.

Sheesh! The point was to talk about anything except Unreal Engine. laugh

Hexagon, Blender, 3DS Max and what not ... okaaay. Congratulating Daz, belatedly, for the award ... A-Okay.

Embrace the zombie. 'Tis the season to be merry.

    Cheers!

Sorry @csaa. I was surprised about the thread. It would be great to see additional work go into old hexagon. Between the rounding errors that render files unusable, the mirror bug, and the general instability of the program, I have abandoned it.
