It's too bad I couldn't help the neighbor escape, though. I hope he makes it out on his own.

Now I just need to get the snow out of my poor ears. Still, that definitely has the air of a James Bond sequence....

Yes, you have snow in your ears, because your earmuffs flew off and were crushed by the SnowCat treads. The earmuffs are over there near the tread on your right, flat as a pancake due to DS axis scaling.

    A Pyrrhic victory, then.

I had to go look that one up. laughIf you have anymore winter adventures, I can get you a new set of earmuffs from my product library, so don't worry too much. Or perhaps a cozy knit cap would would be nice.

Ears ar vitally important to cats, both for sensing the world and for communicating. Hmm, maybe that was why the big cat didn't want to back down - it couldn't read my ears?

I don't think we will ever know what a SnowCat thinks. I don't think it thinks at all.

    Madeline's Beauty Salon

Late one December afternoon, Richard went to Madeline's Beauty Salon to request fluffy tail hair extensions for the holidays.

Richard Haseltine: See this boring ordinary tail? I want those fluffy tail hair extensions like I got last year. Those were the bomb until I ruined them in the turpentine bath - don't ask.
Receptionist: You know we'll always accommodate you, Mr. Haseltine. The staff gets a real kick out of the situations you present us with. Remember the Van de Graaff generator incident? Ha ha, that was a doozy. I think it took Tom several hours to fix your funny feeling fur. So... I'll just move Jackie K. to next week. Then I'll move Little Debbie to that free spot, and I'll put you in her spot, Monday at 2. How does that sound?
Richard Haseltine: Fabulous, I'll see you Monday. Say, maybe I could even try a new color this year. I'll think about it and see what my forum friends suggest.

  • Hmm, perhaps some of the silver tinsel that goes on Christmas trees would look good? And, purely incidentally, it might lead some birds to think they could perch there safely... Which of course they could, absolutely no risk.

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 27,209
That sounds like an interesting option. I hope they have that color in stock. Of course, I am a bird, so I'm glad there is no risk. ABSOLUTELY NO RISK.

    Tinsel Tail

Richard Haseltine's fluffy tail hair extension appointment ran long into the evening. (There's still 49 Minutest of Monday left where I live). It turns out that Tinsel Hair is not easy to source. Tinsel Hair is not only hard to get, it is hard to install and extraordinarily expensive. The agreed upon approach was to mix Tinsel Hair with hair extensions matching Richard's natural color for a more affordable and natural look. After hours of painstaking effort, hairdresser Tom completed the task.

Hairdresser Tom: OK. I'm finally done! You can look now.
Richard Haseltine: Wow! This tail exceeds my wildest imagination! Wait until Lola sees this!!
Hairdresser Tom: I'm so glad you're pleased. I added some Colorful LEDs to enhance the festive holiday look.
Richard Haseltine: I can't wait to show this off. I will be the envy of all who see me (like usual, but even more so).
Hairdresser Tom: Don't forget; stay away from all solvents this year!

(I tried for hours to get a good metallic tinsel look on that hair. I even bought a special product to do that, but I struggled to achieve the goal. I finally had to say "good enough".)

Like RichardH I can't see the photos due to region limits. We had a wonderful all black NFC called 'Fluffy' because he was, utterly regal cat who was the real boss in our house. Regards, Richard

They are very fluffy! As you can see in the picture I managed to attach, Rufus was so floofy he was almost a round ball. I have other pictures to prove he wasn't massively fat, like that picture makes him look. He wasn't regal though, he was more like the court jester, with his antics. His sister was the princess of all peas.

I've tried attaching pictures of the two rascals.

That tinsel tail looks AMAZING.  And Hairdresser Tom was smart to add the lights, now it will be difficult for Richard to sneak up on any unsuspecting birds... um, I mean, he will get everyone's full and undivided attention, of course!

As he deserves, of course! I hadn't consciously thought of that first feature, but as a bird, it was probably a subconscious choice on my part. Well done, Hairdresser Tom!

Barbult, I really like what you've done to RichardH's tail. I'm sure he'll love it right up to the moment he doesn't.

    Regards,

    Richard

Excellent, not only distinguished but the lights will stop certain people from treading on it in the gloomy winter days.

@barbult, I am in awe of Richard's tail. Simon would try to chase and pounce it. Charlie would stomp and eat it. Then barf on my pillow afterwards. He likes to share.

And reading everyone's comments of their own furry kittens was fun at 03:00am. Mine decided I needed to be up at 01:00am today.

Maybe I am aging myself, but I saw the term 'birds' and my head went to the slang term for young girls/women from the 1960s. I am not sure if it was the Beatles who popularized it or not?

@barbult   Popping in from St Augustine to wish you and your thread group a Merry Christmas! I enjoyed going back through the renders, the cracked phone one was hilarious! I haven't rendered anything in Daz since early 2024 and don't know if I'll get back to it, but I'll pop in occasionally and see what you all are up to.

@Novica, how nice to hear from you! Some of the renders here are funny and some are just ridiculous. But I had fun making all of them.

Thanks, Ron! I'm glad you were entertained. Richard Haseltine is my muse. I enjoy getting him in and out of virtual trouble, along with Jack. I add new renders when I get inspired (and get time) so check back now and then.

And now back the the subject of the thread: Richard

    What the Heck is That?

As Richard headed home, he was glad to see that the snow had melted. It was getting pretty dark, though. There seemed to be an unusual number people out on a  cold moonless night in the suburbs.

Richard Haseltine: This Tinsel Tail is pretty heavy. It is kind of weighing me down. It must be the lead in the tinsel. Maybe I shouldn't have insisted on the old genuine lead tinsel for my tail extensions. Mylar would have been much lighter - and cheaper - and easier for Tom to apply. Oh well...
Ron: What the heck is that thing all lit up near the ground? Matt! Watch out! You almost stepped on it - whatever it is.
Matt: Oh, good thing it is lit up. I would have tromped all over it.
Tommy: It's a cat with a Tinsel Tail! Ooh I want to pet it. It's the prettiest thing I've ever seen! I wish I had a tail to tinselize.
    Bicyclist: Make way! Coming through!
Richard Haseltine: Wow, this Tinsel Tail has just the magnetic affect I wanted. Look how popular I am already. Oh, I see birds up there. I wonder if they will be attracted to my Tinsel Tail or scared off by the LEDs and this big crowd of admirers.

Yup, that IS where you belong. It is good that you know that and don't suffer from the malady of modesty. All cats should be confident in their superiority, especially superior ones, like you.

Thank you, though I am ashamed that I did not pick up on the lead in the tinsel and say plumb centre of attention.

That could be you. wink Don't let Matt step on Richard's tail, and don't you step on it either! Some names are random and some names sneak in from forum thread commenters. Now you are "famous" but not as famous as Richard Haseltine. Nobody will ever be as famous as Richard, although Jack is up there pretty high on the famous (infamous) list.

    I Am An Excellent Artist

As Richard chatted with his admirers on the street corner (Even the bike rider stopped to admire his amazing tail.), an interesting mutual interest came up in conversation:

Ron: I've been dabbling in acrylic painting. I find it to be an enjoyable and rewarding way to spend time with friends.
Richard: Oh, I'm an excellent artist! I once collaborated on a painting that sold for millions of dollars. It was my final suggestion that made it so valuable. [link scroll down to The Accidental Artist render at that link]
Ron: I'm not sure what my paintings are worth.Perhaps you could drop by my place tomorrow and give me your expert assessment. I live in the Highclere Apartment building over by the park. My living room has an excellent skylight roof with beautiful light for painting.
Richard: It was nice to meet you, Ron, and I look forward to sharing my artistic expertise with you.

    Next afternoon in Ron's apartment:
Ron: So, what do you think, Richard? Does it rival the masters?

    To be continued...

This is such a fun story.

And my "avatar" is slimmer than me.... no complaints there.

We all seem to be young and beautiful "people" (some of us are cats, birds, and sharks, etc.) here in Richard's virtual world.  I'm glad you approve of your depiction.

  • I am a little worried for the sanctity of Ron's original vision if my atypicaly heavy tail gets too close to the art supplies.
