I love that there's some traditional clothing in today's selection, and it looks really well made! (...I am too white to comment on authenticity, but at least it isn't fetishwear...)

(eta: though the necklace doesn't sit realistically, now that I look closer.)

I do wish the PA had been more specific than "Native American-style".

<snip> I think using a specific tribe name for a commercial product requires permission from the tribe. </snip>

Ah, I wasn't aware of that bit. (And I suspect there are a LOT of people in violation of that one, if true...)

Well I might be wrong, I'm French so my knowledge of American laws is limited. IIRC there was a big lawsuit about that some years ago which involved the Navajo nation and some big clothing brand, that's where I got this impression from.

I was mostly thinking about how in the advocacy spaces I follow, there are often complaints about native culture being treated as one big conglomerate.

Yes, it's indeed important to remember that there are many different Native American tribes / nations and cultures.

There are also some kinship face morphs for Cheyenne 9: https://www.daz3d.com/cheyenne-9-kinship-alternate-face-morphs that lists some other skin textures (from E3D Mari and Olivia 9) that would work well with the characters.

I'm just hoping/waiting for Stonemason's 1950's Small Town USA to drop. Thats all I really want right now. I wonder if it will come near the tail end of this sale or during the Holiday Sale. But I think it's inevitable that it comes soon since we had the Diner, the Suburbs, and the Suburbs across the tracks, so I think the next thing has to be the1950s small town he mentioned in one of the other threads. Unless of course he switches gears to some other geographic region, but it seems to make sense to finish this themed run with the small town USA. I supposed a perfect time to release it would be the Holiday sale though, or even Black Friday, considering there could even be Christmas Lights and Snow add-ons for it by someone like Kindred Arts, it would make it a great Holiday release. Anyway, thats my prediction.

What does the https://www.daz3d.com/mgx-mystical-abode "room" look like at a distance? I can't tell from the promo images what the room (or two walls if it's just a vignette) looks like. There's that image of the tree and I think it's the tree in the crystal ball. But I can't tell.

There are 12 scene presets but none of them are shown "from 30,000 ft" as many environment assets are promoed.

    Thanks.

I wasn't aware of that... looked it up out of curiosity and found a really good NPR article about it: https://www.npr.org/2012/04/05/150062611/navajo-nation-sues-urban-outfitters-over-trademark -- And yeah, I can totally see why they sued. "Tacky and insensitive" is used in the article, and that hits the nail right on the head. (An alcohol flask?? SERIOUSLY?? To say nothing of the more culturally sensitive stuff.)

Granted I'm not a legal expert, but given that the clothing seems to be trying hard to be tasteful it seems like "inspired by the clothing of the [insert tribe name(s)] people" would be acceptable, especially since it's trying to provide some badly needed cultural diversity/representation to the store.

But again, not a legal expert, and I could see how anyone who knew about that lawsuit might be a little skittish about risking it.

This is a bit of a bugbear.... As I have noted in the past about the clumsy representations of my own race and ethnicity, people want more than badly needed cultural diversity/representation; we want accurate, specific, dignified, badly needed cultural diversity/representation which is a bit more complicated and requires research.  It ought to be easy to explain to people who get upset when the wrong tartan is used, a military uniform has the wrong patches, a woman's armor has the wrong protective breatplate, or the buttons on the wrong side of a shirt etc... that it matters that the wrong clothes are used for a particular tribe or that there is a specificity to those clothes.  The half effort can quickly become infuriating since resources exist to do the proper research and due dilligence.

Representation of ethnic groups is difficult. My wife has traced part of my family as living in the same far western Cornish village to the mid 1600's. But I have Scottish & English ancestors too. What native white ethic group does that make me? Probably whatever I like, in all honesty, as I have ancestors scattered over the whole of England & Scotland.

'Cornish' did, for a while, appear as an indiginous white ethnic minority that could be selected on UK government forms in the 2010's. But it's disappeared in favour of 'White, Other' which is usually listed after 'White, Polish' and 'White, Eastern European'. It's not as if the language really survives, either. The last monoglot Cornish speaker died in 1676 and the last person to mostly speak Cornish died in 1777. Now the biggest recognition of the difference of Cornwall from England is the geographical name protection for Cornish Pasties. Ho hum.

    Regards,

    Richard

Entirely understandable, and I agree... but I think in general if anyone is looking at Daz stuff for accuracy, they're probably doomed to disappointment. We have "medieval" rooms with freaking electric lamps, and that should be a slam-dunk of easy to get right. And yet here we are.

ETA: and that's why I mentioned "inspired by"... while I think you and I can both agree someone taking artistic liberties isn't ideal, wouldn't it be at least better to be upfront that it's not accurate, while still honoring the origins?

It's likely to get worse as time goes on. Here we have schools teaching children a version our country's history that is , quite frankly ridiculous.  It seems one misidentified archealogical set of human remains has now changed history. George Orwell would be proud.

That kind of error almost always means that the PA did not remember to Adjust Rigging to Shape and ERC Freeze before releasing the figure. You can fix it yourself, but, of course, you shouldn't have to do that. Submit a help request to Daz. If they don't fix it promply, return the character for a refund.

Checking the character, she absolutely *does* have adjusted rigging (the links are all visible in the Property Hierarchy), it's just misaligned on the hands for some reason. It's the kind of thing that's unlikely to be caught during standard testing, because... well, the links are *there*, so the testing tools would check off that the rigging has been done, but they're off, and it's not so off it'd necessarily be noticed.

That makes it a little harder to fix, because you don't want to mess with any of the other joints (you'll screw up the character's custom CBSes for the shoulders and hips) or to create a Duplicate Formula error (which means removing the original links first, which is a step guides for this will probably skip)

In any case, yeah, put in a ticket. It's not especially hard for someone in the know to fix, but if you're not in the know, it's probably better left to someone else.

That one was my render. So I went back to the original larger file, and yup, looking closer at that hand does show some issue with it. The pinky bends look off.

Didn't notice it first time around since it was just a quick render and a not a super close up.

Thank you for a request link! I sent a report to Daz and they said they've sent a bug report to vendor and hopefully Mousso will fix and update it through DIM sooner.

    I couldn't resist https://www.daz3d.com/rose-garden--rose-bushes

I love roses, it's a shame my neighbour killed most of mine

    (standard roses along our fence line mysteriously snapped off below the graft one by one over the course of a year, I cannot see anyone else doing that, I actually know she trespassed cut my tree saplings down, threatened to go to the police but couldn't really prove as only a verbal admission she would deny it so didn't}

cost me a fortune 10 years ago buying one each payday each a different colour

    OMG I hate that woman

I watched a person steal her grandkid's bike out of her front yard from my window a month ago, didn't say a word, that is so unlike me I am afraid I have turned into a witch

The roses went to my cart immediately too, as well as the candle trees.

Wendy, unfortunately you are a victim of a recent (as in past 10 - 20 years) crime that is not really investigated or covered by the law. A report I read (New York Times I think) told about a lady living in desirable coastal area in the NE USA and she had a lovely, old growth forest area that framed the water view. New neighbors moved in from New York and repeatedly asked to cut the forest area down, because their vacation home didn't have the view being lower in elevation. When she continued to refuse, tree by tree they died and poison was found injected into the base of each tree. She and her adult sons are still pursuing legal remedies. But against the super rich, not much chance of recourse and of course, the trees are gone. But if you can set-up one of those little cameras to cover that space maybe you can catch her in the act.

I love roses and when I bought my house in CA and after we fixed the sprinkler piping (or thought we had) I bought a number of them. Unfortunately the sprinkle system's pipes broke and flood the bed and most didn't survive. Previous owners ignored the back gardens and had just used them as a dumping ground for their trash and broken junk.

And yes, all of MartinJFrost's plantings go into my cart.
