    But it can be opened

If they use Rigid Follow Nodes changing the parenting would be easy, but that wouldn't add buttonholes.

It is in my wishlist, but I am hesitating, because previous ghost lights have not worked out for me.
The uniform lights took some of the light moods and I have not noticed any advantages in render time. Quite the opposite. Ghostlights seem to increade render times.
I have also never really found out where exactly to place those ghostlights.
Maybe a more detailed tutorial on ghostlights could help.

The new ghostlight or the classic?

The classic stopped working as the intensity was multiplied with the oppacity, and therefore much weaker (argumented to be a bug fix). To fix you need to increase the intensity with the reciproque of the oppacity (which gives insane large numbers).

The new uses a special Iray feature where it will be invisible for direct rays. But as KindredArts also pointed out reflection from new ghostlights will still be visible (while not for the original),

It is possible to hide it in reflections, but that requires adding the Iray Ghost Light Factor to the item on which you wish to hide the reflections - it can't be done via the light settings alone. See https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/609556/creating-a-ghost-light-daz-studio-4-21-1-26

The fact that the new ghost lights are visible to reflections makes them superior IMHO. Shiny surfaces and skin looked flat with the old ghost lights, but look much better when there are visible reflections.

I can't reach the list of included files (503 error), so I wonder if anyone else figured out whether the scene is one huge object, or whether they're seperate objects, like, stairs, corridor, hallway, maybe even seperated into seperate walls and floors?

it's one huge object but you can hide part you don't need on your render

I'm not really sure what I'd be buying based on the current description and promo images. I only know the "modern" ghost lights, and I use them extensively in my renders. I have though been confused by old tutorials for ghost lights and their use of opacity.

I'd have liked to see the various promo images with a third panel: Dark, Lit up with "modern" ghost lights, and Lit up with the ghost lights in this product. A fourth behind the scenes image of how these ghost lights were placed in the scene might have been instructive as well. I'm most curious how these lights reflect less.

Finally, are the various light types that come with the asset (there are six mentioned) more than just IES profiles? They resemble IES profiles based on the promo image.

Any enlightment (couldn't resist the pun) would be welcome.

Hi, just quoting yourself but hopefully this answers others in the thread too. If you guys are happy with the current crop of ghost lights i have that use scripts (like IGLK ONE etc), or even the ones you can D.I.Y via the utility scripts, you likely don't need these. I did these by request, because some preferred the older set, or they're using older Daz builds. So it's the older ghost light methodology, completely scriptless, but with more lights (rim, disk, umbrella etc). These are not really the way they should be done, but they work, and hopefully the people who appreciated the older set will appreciate these. These lights don't use scripts (primary rays/ghost light FAC), so they should be gold if you have older builds. It also gives me leverage to update the newer ghost light sets without pestering this legacy set. My apologies if these can get a bit confusing, but i'm trying to keep everyone happy. I still think IGLK ONE is solid if you want a simple, cheap set of invisible lights.

TL;DR - These are not a replacement for the current methodology, they are just an expanded set of lights using the old low-opacity technique without scripting, specifically for the people who wanted them.

PS. There's no IES profiles here, it's just the lights. There's six - Ceiling, disc, flat, rim, sphere, umbrella.

    Thanks for the answer KA.

First 3D Universe, now chevybabe25 turning off interactive licenses. Saves my wallet and makes their products easy to skip, I suppose, but still sad to see the erosion of one of Daz's core licenses.

I didnt turn those off eh.. I will flag someone about it

*edited to add* (a) thank you for saying something.. and (b) Ive let the right people know.   Commerical and Interactive licenses should be allowed on this product.

Great to hear. Unfortunately, based on experience with other artists, I suspect that you'll have difficulty getting the options added. Daz seems generally unable or unwilling to add license options after release, though I have seen it happen occasionally with some Daz Originals. Lately even those aren't being fixed despite being reported (all of the recent Daz+ items from Space Elsa, for example).

But I do appreciate the response and the effort, and the brows look great, so now they're in my library. :)

Thank you! I kinda liked the corridor, so I might actually look into tweaking it into a seperate object for personal use then.

  • Hmm. I have seen a very clever idea, but I think - hope - it's of only limited use, Totte's Prop Re-Scaler companion script to Alienator Pro, which allows you to substitute things like a tulip flower for a tree, at the same size as the tree was. Clever, interesting, completely mad, and hopefully of limited use (otherwise the world has gone potty).

    Regards,

    Richard

Thank you for the support!  The product has been fixed in the store to show the correct options :)

The Suburbs : Across the Tracks | Daz 3D  this is beautiful. Do you need to own Suburbs to use it oris it stand alone? It doesn't say in the product promo so I assume stand alone but you know how assumptions are.

it says stand alone in the description so I bought it

I am guessing the tracks are next

My characters have to go into literal dreamscapes on occasion (because magic and reasons) so this is definitely going to be useful at some point.

I'm thinking land of giant chocolate ("Easter") rabbits needs to happen... :)

Does nobody else find Fiorella's 11th promo picture (and a few of the others) a bit, or very... odd? Considering the age presented of the character.

Interesting that Final Fantasy is mentioned by name in the description too rather than just a coy hint, I haven't seen that before!

imo not as dubious as the promos in the Reigha bundle showing a chest reveal morph. But, open to interpretation. The product images and description text are important to show a character's versatility, and they are also a vibe.

Oh gosh yeah, the reveal morph is on the front image for the dress, I hadn't noticed that. I can't imagine why testing wouldn't have raised that as being a potential optics issue

Agreed! I'd say I especially loved the inclusion of the tea chest.... but really, I especially love everything about the set. :) Definitely fills some gaps.

It probably wasn't a good idea for Daz to release these back to back, they are nearly identical:

I saw that and immediately thought of your storyline SilverGirl. And also my favorite drinks besides water. That it was done by esha is just a treat because I know it is done with skill and thoughtfulness. Love it.

Agreed. Everything I have of esha's is a delight to use. Did you check out the promo of the open sugar pot? It even has that little sugar-coating on the insides! And the tea bag is posable!! And the napkins... it may sound weird to say, but there is a serious lack of decent napkins in the store. When there is a napkin at all, it usually doesn't sit flat, or often it has some realistic little rumple... which is great and all until you're setting a dinner table and they're all identically rumpled.

It's super rare for me to get something as soon as it comes out... it has to solve an immediate need, which usually is a utility at this point, or trigger a discount that more than compensates for the splurge. This one's in the cart.

(Also, I now want cookies, gosh darn it.)

Nobrainer to me, although I already have the one from maclean. I just love such prop packs!

  • memcneil70memcneil70 Posts: 5,235

@mding, I have @maclean's sets also but you can never have too many sets.

I wonder if military offices still have the big 50-cup urns and mugs that are lucky if they have been rinsed out from the previous day's coffee? Along with a container of dry creamer and sugar. No packs, or other little thingies when I was in. When I worked in a squadron section commander's office, I bought a home coffee pot and kept it going every day, along with homemade or store bought cookies or other treats. Tea was available with a hot water pot. It was a great way of inviting folks to stop in and just let us know how they were doing and if they had problems they needed help with.

Twinmotion Render, I skipped the grass and used the TM 3D grass texture and was a bit sparse on the trees (but did use a foliage shader) added extra TM trees

oops just realised I didn't light the streetlights (must have overlooked the emission texture)
