@daveso I assume the complaint was you had to put it together &/or lack of a "some assembly required" notice? Because it looks lovely.

the big deal was it was supposed to be 17.5 inches across and the box was 7inches that it came in. I thought I bought one of those Temu mini items that looks giant in their ads.

As one of my friends would say... "I had a date like that once."

complaint: I bought a 2-pack of air purifiers off Amazon. They both refused to power on. Unfortunately, the box they shipped in had already gone out with the recycle truck, and the return feature requires them to be in one box. I don't have one big enough, so I packed them in two. The UPS Store said they could not accept them like that, but "helpfully" offered to sell me a cardboard box for FIFTEEN DOLLARS. I'm not shelling out $15 bucks to send back defective items, so now I get to deal with Amazon customer service to try to get them to give me two labels... and then go back.

Well, I don't blame Amazon's policy, they at least give you an out as long as you follow the rules.  It's not their fault you made poor assumptions and discarded the box too early.  HOWEVER, I do blame UPS for charging $15 for a box.  Can you not get a box from somewhere else?  At what point does the return cost exceed the bother of admitting you got the short end of the stick?  Moreover, have you ever tried to send anything by just walking into a UPS store without pre-authorization?surprise Outrageous cost to the walk-in public.angry  The fact that Amazon has a contract with that devil that permits them to be able to ship free and provide free return (if you're a Prime member, and follow the rules) is a major concession from Amazon to their customers.  It's well worth the ~$15/month cost if you deal with Amazon more than a few times a month.  I've always had satisfactory results when I delve into the Amazon website deep enough to find out how to reach a human being (chat or phone) and be polite, attentive and willing to adapt.indecision

At this point I'm just going to Frankenstein a box together out of the boxes I have + packing tape. .

And I get that Amazon's policy is what it is, but it really bothered me the way the guy behind the desk went about it. "These are pretty high-end items, right? And you're getting a refund? Well, I can sell you a box for $15 and we'll handle the packing!" (For real, that's what he said; I'm not paraphrasing.)

Unfortunately, I didn't qualify for one of their $5 boxes... which he explained to his trainee were boxes left behind by other customers. So if I bought the $15 box and decided to leave my two boxes behind instead of take them back with me, they'd keep them and sell them to someone else for $5 each.

    It felt predatory and icky.

And considering the number of times UPS misdelivers our stuff, or drops packages on our step that aren't ours, I'm not feeling charitable.

Google (or another major search engine) is the easiest way to find the Amazon chat link or CS phone#, or anything else, except find items. And Wal-Mart sells boxes for less than $2. $15 is crazy.

Cool, thanks. I was trying to find some sort of assistance that wasn't an FAQ article through their site and coming up dry. If they'd just let me have two boxes (seriously, why should it make a difference??) it would solve everything.

Google is the only way I've ever found an Amazon phone number. I also managed to contact them through their Twitter account once. After I told that guy to stop sending me to the endless loop of FAQs, he gave me an e-mail to contact. IDK why they make it so hard.

Found the chat box through Google (thank you!!) and then had to repeatedly ask for a real person to get the AI to shut up and redirect me. (It kept giving me a link to my label and telling me to print it and follow the instructions -- not helpful.) However, I was only in the queue a minute or two, and the rep had my issue solved in under five. (She sent me a second label.) Way easier than having to patch together a box, and didn't cost me $15.

unrelated complaint: Feeling kinda crummy from getting my covid & flu shots today

non-complaint: ...but it's only about 1/2 to 1/3 as crummy this year with the Novavax as I did previously with the Moderna or Pfizer, which tended make me feel like death defrosted (not even warmed over, I should have been so lucky) for two to three days. And I was able to access it at Costco with zero fuss. I'll take the win.

Glad you got that sorted out. They're quite nice at Amazon if you can ever get in touch with them.

Sorry you're feeling off from the shots.

    Thanks. :)

Little Dude's currently reaping the benefits, as he found a 1-pound bag of dry barley and emptied it on the floor... but it's already reached maximum mess factor, he's happy playing with it, and I'm too tired to care. If it buys me an easy time till he's ready for bed, I am totally okay with a bag of dry barley being my co-parent tonight. =P

I am amazed!  I still use MS Money 2004 Deluxe, and it works!  I don't do all the fancy stuff, and of course the links to online stuff probably don't work.  But for what I need, it works.  Diane still uses Outlook from 2007 I think.  I've moved on to Thunderbird.

complaint: The complete lack of rain of any sort in the forecast did not prevent a spontaneous thunderstorm from downpouring at the end of my walk with Little Dude today.

non-complaint: He thought it was awesome, the awning on the wagon-stroller kept his snacks dry, and the sunset was beautiful before the storm hit.

non-complaint: Down to about 25% of vaccine side effects. That's a lot faster recovery than I usually get. Pretty sure the fact that Little Dude slept solid last night helped. It meant I got a solid sleep, too.

@SilverGirl - I was hit by an email scam that claimed to be from Amazon. I contacted their live support staff without an issue and they walked me through sending the email to them and then encouraging me to change my password which I did. I have also used World Market to get help to ship back a set of DVDs that had at least 5 of the discs scratched, I ended up with my money back. But I will not buy those DVDs again. I am lucky I have a Barnes and Noble a few blocks from me and I buy from them when I want a DVD or CD, and of course books and magazines.

I am happy Little Dude is having a good time. Joy is where you find it.

Complaint:  Found my first old program on Win11 that has become inconvenient.   WinZipfrown  I've always used WinZip, for decades.  I upgrade now and then.  The last copy I have is WinZip-26 which I downloaded in March of 2022.  But after upgrading to Window11 the right-mouse-button doesn't show the link to WinZip when I click on a file or folder.  It's buried deeply down in the "Show More Options"frown  I considered buying the latest copy of WinZip but discovered that they too have moved to a subscription sales model, at $34/year. No sir, don't like that at all.angry  The old version from 2022 was about $24 and I've been using it all the time.  I think I'll just continue to use it.

Another program that has become inconvenient is "Eraser" (used for securely erasing files & folders).  The file or folder icon's option to link to the Eraser app doesn't show up until I uninstall the app and reinstall it.frown  But at least it works now.  And is still free.indecision

Complaint:  I went to the doctor recently and received a Flu and Covid shot.  But yesterday I had a 101.2F fever, which is bad for me because my normal temperature is 97.6 (1 degree less than what is considered "normal".  My neighbor came over yesterday and removed my air-conditioner from the bedroom window.  During the process I had to go up & down my stairs three times.  Tuckered me out.sad I ended up going to bed at 8:00PM shivering even under the electric blanket.  I feel somewhat better this morning.indecision

We have a Whole Foods and a Kohls over here that accept unboxed dropoffs, and I've used them both few times, but for some odd reason the UPS Store was the only return option for these. (Well, you could have a pickup done, but it wouldn't give even a date they'd come get it, and you had to come to the door and sign for it. Not necessarily easy in my life. Thankfully Dad said he'd grab them and drop them off next time he was out on a Menards run.)

Well, I've considered it.  And may someday abandon WinZip.  But I'm so used to the "Classic WinZip" interface and the ability to encrypt, split & rejoin big files, and other options, that I am loathe to learn a new way breathe.  Perhaps when I'm totally out of air...indecision

But I also think I've discovered that the right-button options on a Win11 file or folder seem to automatically float recently used secondary options to the top section of the "Show More Options" menu.  Which is helpful.  But I wish I could manually move my options to the top menu.enlightened  So many customization capabilites are still missing (or yet undiscovered by me) throughout Win11.sad

This just came in today.  I am thinking of giving it to my friends Oscar and Misty for Christmas.  I want to open it up and look at all the toys but I don't want to have just one go missing.  Looks like there are some toy mice in there.  Those mice are subliminal messages which say mice are good to hunt and hunt any mouse intruders.

Apparently, PKZip is still out there. I don't think any of the alternatives are as good or as simple as 7-Zip though.

...when you mentioned Kohl's in the same breath with another grocery market gave me momentary flashback to my younger days.

Kohl's stated as  a grocery chain that was headquartered in Milwaukee with stores in Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, and Illinois . Their stores were rather distinctive, all of which had a large arched roof.. We used to shop at one near where we lived on the southeast side near the airport.

The centre section of my high school in in Mlwaukee (opened in 1963) was designed in a similar style.

Those big widows offered a beautiful view looking out at Lake Michigan from the cafeteria and library (great for daydreaming during study hall)  Sadly the view has since been ruined a by the construction if condos and apartments that were built on the field across Lake Drive,.

Yeah, no joke.frown  Win11's been out for what, four years?  Its life is more than half over.  But hopefully the big bugs have been squashed.

Complaint:  Arghhh... WinZip26 under Win11 doesn't provide the same interface I've been used to for the last 10 years.  I struggled through the new "Ribbon"style the first few times I used it, saying to myself, "I guess I'll have to find the option to turn on the old interface style", but I can't find it.  Arghhh...sad  Additionally, the way it unzips files seems clumsy and creates subfolders that get zipped back into the original file as "origfile/sub/..." causing infinite confusion as to where the actual files are.  And it seems that when you request encryption on the file it doesn't assume you want everything in the file encrypted unless you've marked it so.  I end up with cleartext copies of what I used to assume was a completely encrypted folder of files.  Nearly doubling my storage space reqirements.  It's this new ribbon style interface, Grrrr...angry  Gasp, gasp, I'm running out of air....  Wahhhh, I want my old interface.crying  I wish they'd stop reinventing the wheel.   Stop the world, I want to get off.indecision

.....that is why I still use my trusty old copy of  Office 2000 That "ribbon" UI the introduced in later versions was pure rubbish as it tool about a quarter of the vertical space in th programme's window.  I like clean, simple, and elegant UIs

I found there is a third party option that changes Win11's UI to look and function like Win 7.

So first you go to the website...

    https://www.7-zip.org/

Then you download the file right in front of you on the screen. When you click on it, if you dare, it will ask you where you want to install it.

It's been a long time since I installed it on a computer that doesn't already have it. I don't remember if it sets itself up. If not, you may have to right-click on a zip file and choose "open with". Then you find 7-Zip as the file to open with and check the box to always use this app to open files like this.

Zipping and unzipping is easy. Splitting files into smaller pieces is easy. There's no ribbon interface. You right-click on a file and all of the options to zip or unzip are there. You open the file in 7-Zip and the options to split a file are there. It asks you what size chunks you want the file to be split into. It's easier than trying to figure out the ribbon, and probably could have been done in the time it takes to read what I just typed.

Thanks for posting about 7-Zip. It got me to check if I had the latest version. I did not. So I just downloaded it.

Well, I'm sticking with WinZip for now.  I've learned a new workflow that gets things unzipped & zipped into the right places reliably, but it's hard to break a decade of muscle memory.indecision

Non-complaint:  Yay, Wednesday is "payday" again.smiley  And I've been a very good boy this month and am way under budget so that excess gets added to savings.yes  Which is good, because ...

Complaint:  My Medicare Advantage plan company notified me that my heart hospital in Buffalo is no longer in their group, and also the cost for my blood thinner(Xarelto) has just tripled.angry  Doesn't sound like an "advantage" to me.sad  And it's that time of year where I have to pick a new plan.  Ah-ain't-a-gonna stick with my current plan, that's for sure.frown

I just found out I have $5 coupon for Hallmark that is expiring today.  They have an option of buying a card and sending it out for me.  I decided to send a card to my Mummy so I can use the coupon.  There wasn't a minimum total so I got my Mummy a five dollar card.

Hmmm .. I just use the deal where I right click the zip file and a list comes up, one of which is extract. Works every time. You can unzip it wherever you want

I was going to do an Instacart order with Ebt, but they had a service fee that isn't covered by Ebt.  I decided to go with Walmart asi have Walmart plus.
