I bought the cute robot set that is today's gold ticket. Thus, I participated. I feel bad, though. Surely worth more than $4 on release day - yet, other people payed $3 and, well... It's complicated. I just hope the vendor sells enough to make it all worthwhile.
Truth to tell, the bulk of my purchase lately has been from the outlet store. I even buy + memberships make the pricing work. But I haven't committed to a year - Good chance I'll want a Premier for December. We shall see!
I'm on the fence. The robot set is indeed extremely cute. And the price... I mean, it's more than generous for the vendor to offer a whole bundle for that price. But I can't think of anything I'll use it for... I guess I still might get it to support the vendor who was so generous to us.
Afaik this is the third Flash Sale during the PA sale with this pricing pattern, where early adopters get deepest discounts. Would be wild if it was a sales technique. I would think more likely it's a side effect of too many discounts / floor pricing rules for the store team to keep track of. (The cart formula must look pretty crazy with all the variables.) As a shopper, there's no way to know if it's a glitch or intended since they do list a multitude of discounts, and often omit the fine print.
I know after seeing the first two such sales poof, I started watching the store earlier and checking out faster in case the prices changed halfway. Bought some stuff I normally wouldn't due to not slowing down to scrutinize. Did a couple large carts without waiting for a gift card as well.
Cuteness, theme, and interest in seeing details of the modeled mesh all pushed me over the edge. I also see a use for it - It tells its own story!
I am starting to suspect it is some technical issue where discount gets released but something does not properly sync up.
An example of the pricing chaos off the top of my head. We could think of today as having 6 separate promotionals:
As a shopper, there's no way to keep up with what's what, since there are too many variables and a bunch of missing clarifications. So it boils down to whether the cart price is agreeable in the moment. From the sales team perspective, I don't know how they would/could manage it all to avoid potential unintended overlap.
From what I can see, they have decided to keep thing simple and what I think they are doing is the following: they add the non discounted price of every items included in a bundle, to get the price someone would have paid to get them individually, then they calculate the percentage each item represent of that price and it's the discount they will apply if you own that item.
As an example if a bundle has three items costing respectively $50, $35 and $15, someone buying items one by one without any discount would pay $100 to get them. If someone owns the first item, the bundle will have an extra 50% discount, if they own the second, it'll be a 35% discount, and the last will provide a 15% discount.
I suppose they are adding the discount so if you own the first two items, you may get a 85% extra discount but I didn't check with bundles where I already have more than one item.
If you own every item in a bundle, it'll bypass the price floor. If you do not, off the top of my head, it'll have to respect the price floor.
Here's a test case from the Top Artists flash sale. https://www.daz3d.com/staff-picks-international-womens-day-bundle
Everything is list price of $46.95 except Daya for $20.95. So the bundle value would be 7 * $46.95 + 1 * $20.95 = $349.60 if bought individually. I own 3 * $46.95 = $140.85 worth of items, which might be $140.85 / $349.60 = 40% discount
The bundle list price is $267.95, to save money compared to buying items individually, so adding it to my cart without any other modifications would seemingly set the price at $267.95 * .6 (40% off) * .26 (the thumbnail shows 74% off for the flash sale) = $41.80 which matches my cart price of $41.60 allowing for rounding errors.
Edits: fixed a bunch of rabbit trails and funky math. :o)
Yeah, GB not MB - just another sign of how old I am. I mean, just imagine a graphic card has 8 or 16 Gigabyte of memory... everybody knows that 640 kilobyte is all what a computer will ever need, right?!?
My cart tripled in price, I knew I should have checked out hours ago. It's just as well, I'd rather make my first big buy of the sale on a double token day.
and now prices and some items have have changed in the selections or code invalid now
Argh... I always forget to check the character bundles.
Got a tidy cart this morning, so really can't complain, especially since I don't specifically /need/ any of the characters... but I've now put the bundles in my WL too so I can keep an eye on them. Weren't in there before because, like you, most of the bundle isn't stuff I'm interested in. If it's going to make the base character that good of a bargain, though, I'll take the rest.
...Daz needs to be less subtle, like this.
Is there any trick for today's gift card or is it just plain 10%?
Yeah... Thanx, but I know that... I was asking if there's any trick to increase the discount, i.e., make it >10%.
It might be a dumb question, but I just wanted to check; do the "30 gets you 30" coupons count all featured artists or per each artist? So if I have 30 in total across all the featued artists, then the code applies for any items from any of the featured artists? Or is it like if I have 30 from Artist X (who is in the list of featured artists), then the code only discounts Artist X's stuff in my cart?
It applies to all featured artists.
Quick grab up at changeover+12
Happy to see the updated Quick Grab!
No problem. In fact, thanks for the help. Indeed, sometimes trying to guess how discounts work is like a charade.
Pretty saddened by Sue Yee finaly abandoning G8 line of products :(
Me too :(
I'm starting to wonder if I've run out of enthusiasm for shopping and sales.
I'll click through the sale page(s), check my wishlist, but usually it ends with me closing the tab and buying nothing, even with all of the sales happening.
Is it burnout? Too much stuff? Worries about the future of Daz? Who knows.
I do know that 2021 me would probably be buying up buckets of content at the moment.
