I'm a bit disappointed by Chrryt'sGolden Ticket today (https://www.daz3d.com/kwel-hd-for-genesis-9). Their other figures were so whimsical, special and interesting; this one now looks just like the typical 'quirky-sexy' type that one sees in the store quite often. And while the boxing outfit is a cool idea, the outfit itself is just so plain ridiculous for the purpose that it's almost offensive. It's like a skimp armor in terms of useability, only for sports.

I loved https://www.daz3d.com/nylie-hd-for-genesis-9 and https://www.daz3d.com/sadora-alien-plus-for-genesis-9-feminine and the fun outfits they and others, like Pyrika, came with; more of these would be so cool, instead of this more generic line.

I'm much more likely to buy real-world characters like Kwel, than a fantasy character, I just wish it was a G8F character.. Still might buy Kwel though considering the super low price.

There is at least some passing resemblance between Galactic Diner and Dex's Diner from Attack of the Clones - Not identical - More along the lines of inspiration than slavish duplication (and that's a Very Good Thing); but when I saw the former, I immediately recalled the latter. Kinda like the Shoot First Corner, which is a pretty cool prop.

Hey, has anyone picked this up? https://www.daz3d.com/quickpreview There's not much in the description and I was wondering how well it worked. If it does what I think it will do (and does it well enough) I'm considering getting it. So any thoughts from you all would be appreciated. Thanks!

Oh AWESOME!! Seriously, thank you so much for posting this link. I was hoping you'd pop in and say something, or that someone who already purchased it would answer. Thank you!!

I took a look at the video and it looks like EXACTLY what I was hoping it would do. Instant buy!

Personally, I find most of Chrryt's characters unappealing, because they don't simply look stylized, they look non-human. I don't see them playing well in a scene with any other characters that I can remember seeing. Kwel still isn't for me, but I would at least consider buying it.

I know what you mean, but if one tunes them down a bit, they work really well as humans I think.  Render is Chrryt's Sadora (human form).

#tsroemi I think your render is very moody and I like it.

Thanks so much, it was a lucky coincidence really: some left-over render settings mixing nicely with the new ones I'd set up. The first time this worked out in a nice way for me, usually I have to hunt down those lingering settings for ages  laugh

I think I found my least favorite character ever created. Its so weird, uncanny, and unsettling to look at. Everything is off about it. I hate it. And yet I feel the need to wishlist it.

But it is created by Feng and their characters always bring my attention.

I was caught between admiration at the level of detail in the sculpt and the fact that I would definitely not want to look at that face longer than I had to. Which makes it a hard pass for putting it in my runtime.

I am probably not a good judge of what is skimpy and sexy

but this seems rather unflattering and hides as much as it reveals

Well, it is as ugly as sin...perhaps that's what they're going for?

  • Wendy, you have stated in words exactly my feeling about the clothing. It is unflattering, well, unflattering for a character having those proportions. It may look better on a character with different proportions but I'm unconvinced. And the use of thick (presumably stiff & unforgiving) leather-like material near delicate parts makes me wince.

As for the Thandey character on her own. Would be a hard no at full price or usual debut price. At the price she is, with the golden ticket, she's competing with similarly busty G3 characters in the Outlet Store, like Dighital Touch's G3F Lynne . I'm left thinking that it's a close run thing. A well done, somewhat strange, new G9 character vs a much more conventional G3 character. I suspect my response will be a 'Regretful No'.

    Regards,

    Richard

I'm sad because it was supposed to be G9 core figure day. Feng books look good tho.

It was like that last year: Daz released Toshi 9 at the begining of the PA sale, then the next character was Vicky 9, in October.

The sixth pop-up and the text/what's included do suggest she doesn't have to be that ample - I suspect most of the images have the larger breasts option aplied.

Wendy & Lorraine are both right about the outfit. I laughed at Lorraine's quip. The full front promos for the outfit don't do Thandey  any favors either. The skin is visibly paler in the bikini area. To me it looks like the ghost of a modest bikini bottom. Is that her actual skin  or postwork?

    *****

I am tempted by the other Golden Ticket. Although if I decide to get it, I will probably replace the weird vases & rock with a wild gazebo.

I bought the other GT and thought it might be nice with a cabin placed there. Those vases are tres weird indeed.

Edit: Not quite big enough for a cabin but plenty for a gazebo. Most of the vegetation is low poly but no instances are used and it's quite heavy. The grass is VERY high poly. I istancified using Code66 Instancify and it dropped the load by a quarter. Textures are 2k and 1k except for the two backgrounds, they are 8k.

I admit my first reaction to most skimpwear is "oh eek that looks so uncomfortable, why on earth??" but the chafing potential alone on this one...

    Nope nope nope.

  • wink. Yup, eye-watering.

I love light, HDRIs and camera sets. And as I looked throught https://www.daz3d.com/hdri-light-detailer I started to think a thread almost needed to be started just for all the products (character/clothes/hair) used in the promos.

I wish it was that easy to create a lovely render, but I know to my pocketbook's cost that it is not. But it is nice to dream and collect.

  • Does the hdri light detailer do anything you couldn't do in the environment and tone mapping parameters?

Loving that hose set!! How versatile & useful!

...maybe KindredArts would consider making a companion set for electrical cords...?

(I know there is https://www.daz3d.com/everyday-cables but I never had good luck getting them to go how I wanted them...)

I don't have it but @CES3D is selling a Tube Maker on other store, which is a script to create tube connecting various nodes. It could be worth asking them if it could be used to create electrical cords (there is also a trial version limited to three nodes).

you also can create a curve in Carrara and extrude a circle along it

probably can Hexagon and Blender too

otherwise rig a subdivided cylinder primpitive in D|S

honestly easier to buy a readymade one though, I rigged a cable but it wasn't great

Thanks for the suggestions, @Elor and @WendyLuvsCatz -- my hunt was more for the flat-ish cords that come with lamps and small appliances and such. For the round ones I could likely scale down the diameter for the hose maker and kitbash it to the ends from the Everyday Cables set... though maybe if I played with different scaling I could flatten it as well? From a distance I suppose it wouldn't be obvious that it lacked the ridge in the middle...

I mean, ideally there'd just be a dedicated set that would save me the puttering about, and it seems like the sort of practical gap others might like to see filled as well...

  • @SilverGirl - You might be able to connect the plugs from Everyday Cables with the cords from RSA's dForce Strings and String Lights to get something close to what you're looking for?
