Ok, this isn't right. I ate the food and liked it. (Grilled Philly Cheese Hamburgers and Hot Dogs) Then I went to the front room while the wife was cleaning, and I heard her yell, "Get down, Merlin." I looked, and half of one I was saving for later was gone. Merlin is just licking his fur. Merlin picture below.

The cat's innocent. They're always innocent. They're constitutionally innocent. Regards, Richard

Complaint#1: Gilly the Diztiest Collie chewed on another super cheap set of ear buds (he's fine) Hubby left in reach (which means "in the house" more or less), so I had to listen to Hubby complain about that.

Complaint#2: Thanks to very important spending on car, I can only afford a couple of the FirstBastion items in the Carousel Artist deal.

Complaint#3: Work was extra miserable so I didn't go out to see fireworks, but watch A Capitol Fourth on PBS.

    Complaint#4: Working today as well.

Non-complaints: A Capitol Fourth and the cookies I baked afterwards were both lovely. Cuddled dogs too.

Non-complaint:  Competing fireworks:  Private, aerial local fireworks about three houses east of me, and loud explosions to the south of me.  Both displays from 9:45 to 10:30 last night.  From my kitchen window I could watch the eastern sky display over the tops of the trees, but since I was in my "Florida attire" and too lazy to put pants on I wouldn't go out on my porch to see the fireworks to the south of me but they were quite loud & frequent, indicating a significant expense.  I think somebody on the south side of town (other side of the creek and railroad tracks), was having a fireworks party in his back yard on the edge of the swamp.  Not really exciting because I've seen fireworks enough in my life, yawn.indecision  But I'm sure somebody was getting a kick out of it.

Non-complaint:  4th-of-July lunchnic.  I got invited to a 4th-of-July lunch/picnic in the backyard of a friend yesterday.  Hotdogs, macaroni salad, chips & dip, brownies, cheesecake.  Bunch of old people yacking about aches & pains, & old memories.  Wheee.indecision  I've got a nice deviled egg tray and look for excuses to use it.  I contributed by making "One-eyed Deviled Eggs".  i.e. deviled eggs topped with a single slice of black olive and sprinkled with paprika.  I made a full tray of 14, and got to bring home 10 of them.  Yum.  Deviled eggs for breakfast.smiley

Deviled egg receipe:  Boiled eggs (12-15 minutes after boiling starts), cool eggs in cold water for 5-10 minutes, deshell (old eggs deshell easier than new ones) and cut in half lengthwise, separate yolks into bowl.  Add to yolks, 1-tablespoon Miracle Whip or mayonaise per four eggs yolks, a squirt or two of spicy mustard, 1-teaspoon of sweet pickle relish per 4 egg yolks, mash & blend ingredients with a fork.  Spoon out about a level teaspoon worth into eggwhites, slice a few medium sized black olives and garnish the deviled eggs with one slice of olive, then sprinkle with paprika.  Voila!  Bloodshot, one-eyed deviled eggs.smiley

Bonus:  The leftover yolk mix is good for decadent snacking with a spoon.yes

Complaint/non-compaint combo: Eldest bought some yogurt baby melts to try, but decided against liking them (still pretty brave, there are sensory issues going there). I think they're fine, so was planning to finish them off, as Mom is what happens to all the reject snacks around here laugh. Well, Little Dude took an interest. So on one hand, he's actually gotten brave enough to put them near his mouth, and even lick them a bit, and has said "yum." From a kid who has five different foods he can eat without gagging, this is HUGE. But licking them makes them kinda sticky, and right now he's more interested in the sensory experience of taking handfulls out of the bowl and then dropping them back in one by one than he is in actually eating them. But they're food, and he's interacting with it. He even said "try one" which is a lot of words for him.

...but ohhh man I hate it when everything's sticky. And everything's going to be sticky.

Ouch, sorry.sad  Yeah, hospitals aren't fun, but be considerate of the overworked nurses, they do more for you, and to you, than the doctors.indecision  We hope you'll be back home soon.

    Ich bin krank und müde.

That means I am sick and tired.  I'm at an appointment for my arthritis is my left knee.  I have been waiting about an hour, but I think they said I came about an hour early.  They suggested me going somewhere to get something to eat.

Problem is I don't have a car or enough money to go out to eat.  I'm still about two dollars short of my phone bill.

Glad to hear you're out of the hospital, at least... I was thinking about you last night and hoping you'd gotten the care you'd needed.

My excitement for today is the new pencil sharpener I ordered on Amazon has arrived. Now I'm patiently waiting the thousand years it takes for the battery to fully charge. It's the latest trend with low cost USB powered devices. They come with a cable that has USB Type C on one end and the old Type A on the other end. And even though the device has a Type C port built in, it will only charge if the other end is plugged into a Type A port. If you use your own charger and cable that is Type C on both ends then it won't charge because it's not Type A on the charger's end. There must be some electrical bits Type C cables have that Type A cables don't have. So it has the wires for the Type A cable but not the extra ones that would make Type C work. But it's no problem. My 140 watt charger will happily deliver 2 watts for the next 999.9 years.

I admit frustration with the fact that everything seems to come with a USB charger cord these days. I mean, I get why, and I can't fault the companies, but... wow it's annoying. I had to go buy a bunch of multi-chargers to plug into my standard outlets, and this house doesn't have a lot of outlets, and even fewer in convenient places.

And Apple keeps changing their compatibilities, so now I have to have cords on hand for USB-A/lighting, USB-C/lightning, and USB-C/USB-C in order to cover the house's tech. And make sure my tired self is plugging the right thing into the right tablet.

In Europe (I think it's Europe wide rather than just UK) Apple are being a little constrained by regulation, and are being forced down the 'No Cable' or 'Common Cable' route and are not being permitted to have 'Apple Only' cables as it's considered this leads to excess electrical waste when the only bit of kit you have using that cable dies.

Samsung had the same issue, but changed over with a lot less publc fuss having seen which way public sympathies were going, and seemed to have benefitted a bit from Apple's grumbling and fighting the push for commonaility.

We have a couple of multi plug extension leads that we have a number of chargers permanently plugged into and then connect the discharged devices into. This seems to work moderately well in a family of 4, and as the quiescent power draw of chargers is mandated to be under 0.5W post 2012(I think), the cost is negligible and more than made up for by the saving in TV power requirement in the last 10 years.

    Regards,

    Richard

Chargers, schmargers.  I just carry a pocket of hamster food and just pop some into the feeding dish of my Cricetinae brand cell phone.  Mind you, the rotor is a bit clumsy, and sometimes I need to wake one of them up, but they're still healthy and frisky.  And, my power source is self replicating.devil

Sunday I was going to listen and work through a Low-Pi Tutorial and had everything set up, went to sync my headset with my computer and found the bluetooth would not see my headset. Finally figured out the USB outlet it had been plugged into was a dud. So moved it to another one and 12 hours later it finished charging. Well after I gave up. I still tried to read the included manuals in the first product but got derailed by the cats, dealing with meals, and life. Never try to do anything with a full house.

Complaint: After shampooing my bedroom carpet and cleaning my bathroom yesterday, it was late in the afternoon I realized our A/C was not blowing cold air. Outside temps at 93F. Today, supposed to be 95F, tomorrow 99F. So workorder in to apartment maintenance. After six years here, we were overdue. Just lucky I guess.

And all that work, well my back meds got a workout.

I got confused about when I was taking my birth control and which week I was in.  I called my pharmacy and asked what I should do.  The pharmacist recommended a pregnancy test.  I haven't had sex and I thought that is how to get pregnant. I decided to skip the pregnancy test.  Gabriel has not come to tell me anything, so I can assume I'm not pregnant.

Also I got the medicine that I got prescribed Sunday at the emergency department last night but forgot to take it.  I did take it this morning.  Hopefully I can feel well enough to go see Superman with my boyfriend this Thursday.

It bothers me less when it's a charger. But, for example, I have a small fiber optic holiday tree that came with a USB-A plug. Where I want it doesn't have that kind of outlet, and I didn't have an adapter on hand, either. Also, it would stick out too far from the wall (because furniture) if I used one, so not only did I have to buy nore stuff just to use the thing I just bought, I had to get an extension cord too, and also have that dangling around back there. And a light box toy that Little Dude got for his birthday has to be plugged in to work... USB-A only.

    COMPLAINT:

So I've been going crazy for the last couple of weeks ,frustrated , confused , angry ,for some reason  none of my passwords were working ,FireFox was my browser has been for years and up until now I hadn't had a problem .My daugghter changed my browser saying it was a FireFox issue ...... only I was still having issues none of my  bookmarks were showing up and none of my passwords were being accepted still ,so I'm having to change them all ,but the next time I go to use them they don't work .Even better I did a restart on my computer and again my passwords aren't working , it took 2 hours to get my Microsoft password changed and accepted so I could change the password on the computer and finally get into it , then I'm back to the same issue of none of the passwords being accepted ........ I have finally figured out that just before the issue started Microsoft did a Security update ..... now I'm wondering how much of a headache I'm gonna cause if I uninstall the update with all the stuff that has been done trying to fix the issue I think the update caused ...or am I better off throwing the computer out the window ?

My guess is the default web browser was changed beforehand; and the passwords were not there because it was a different web browser. I think uninstalling the update and throwing the computer out of a window would both have the same effect.

Meanwhile, it has been a thousand years and my pencil sharpener is fully charged.

ugh ,reading your response reminded me ,no the default browser wasn't changed  before hand however it also did an update  and the back up folder it created  the bookmark ,password folder it created was empty ,so I did go back to an older backup folder ,and did get most of my bookmarks ,restored ,just not the passwords ..... oh and the bigger issue is even the passwords I had written down and saved in my "password "book ,don't work ,and new passwords are only accepted once then I get the pop up window saying  either my user name or pass word is incorrect ......

Non-complaint: I have a sharpener like the attached image. Fortunately it was made before re-chargable sharpeners were invented, and consequently it still works immediately and almost as well now as when new. I was given it to go in my pencil case for my new school in 1973. When looking around just now.. the sharpener now costs a massive £0.41p, with £2.45 post & packing. Ho hum.

I still have a towel & a pair of socks from when I went to the senior school in 1978. The towel was from BHS and is still golden yellow even though it's now disintegrating after regular use since 1978. I bought a replacement towel about 10 years ago, bright turquoise. The colour has faded so it's now the same grey as my wife's towels & I've permanently lost that one.

Complaint: Where is BHS when you need them? They went bankrupt in 2016 just to annoy me, I'm sure.

    Regards,

    Richard.

I inherited some cleanup-grade towels of abut that vintage from my parents when I moved out.

Not quite as old, but the hoodie I wear out walking when it's cold is the same one my mom bought for me in 7th grade for chilly outside phy ed days.  Often Little Dude winds up wrapped up in it instead. Twelve-year-old me definitely didn't imagine that fate for it when she was running endless loops on the track. (As a side note: the only reason it still fits me is Mom bought it extra big to fit over my uniform without making it bunch up. All my correct-size clothes from that era now belong to Elder Child, who wears them better than I ever did anyway.)

Inherited stuff.. Yeah that's sometimes hard to hang on to and hard to get rid of.

My dad inherited a WW1 cavalry messengers greatcoat. It dated to when my Great Uncle lied about his age and joined the army in 1916. The Great Uncle was initially put in the messenger service, issued with a horse and greatcoat to keep him dry and it was his job to take messages around the front line when the telephone wired had been parted by shellfire.

The greatcoat survived to the mid 1980's when my dad used it for long distance weekly mortorcycle commuting across the UK (around 250 miles each way each weekend). The greatcoat was made from 8-10 layers of waxed canvas and was so stiff it stood up on its own without anyone inside. It was made in the shape of a seated man and stayed waterproof whatever weather was thrown at it for 18 hours. Most remarkable coat. My dad used it for 3 years before getting a different job and I lost track of where it was. No-one makes clothing like that any more...

    Regards,

    Richard

My youngest sister wanted to be married in our mother's dusty pink wool wedding suit from 1949 but had to make do with something from 1990. Mom was 5'6" and Tara is 5'10". Totally didn't fit in the outfit. I have no idea where that suit is today. It would have been a nice way to include Mom since she died in 1979 and also tick off Dad's third wife at the same time. Pity she couldn't fit into it.
