Wish I could help.  I don't even have VWD properly installed on my main machine anymore.  Just could not get it working reliably.  I have it on my old laptop because the install is so old, but that has other problems.

    thanks Ted,

Not to worry. The beauty of doing 3d printing is you don't have to worry about uvcoordinates so I guess I can just fudge a fit with sculpting tools :)

    Push pull grab pray. :)

VWD used to work very well, a shame.

I even tried poser cloth room the other day, I went to another solar system by pushbike (no gears and peddling backwards)  while it was doing two drape frames....

    Hope you are well!!

on the bright side, I have not tested it as don't have Poser installed but since unlike Poser cloth it creates morphs along the timeline, you shouldn't need the Dyn2Morph script to load the pz3 scene into Carrara

so later Poser with Python 3 shouldn't be an issue

Oh, I wonder if the reason my VWD stopped working on my main machine because I uninstalled Poser.  I thought you could use it independently, but I may have installed it improperly to do so.

I had it working on my Win7 without Poser

it still works there but have Poser7 on that rig now too

it's Philemo's bridge that won't work for me on Win10, throws an error opening Carrara if extension added

Hmm anyone working with this successfully ? Still works in poser, but i get errors in carrara

. Tried a few versions. If I don't get an error in carrara then nothing moves in the sim.

Using short file names and simple meshes

    only on my Win7

actually got the extension working on my Win10 too using a separate beta version of Carrara (minimal plugins) now but VWD itself freezes mid sim and never responds again

Thank you Wendy. I have a feeling it worked once on poser then stopped after another go in the same session.  Maybe there-in doth lie a clue. I am using win 10. Perhaps python has been updated and causes the problem.

Edut from the other place: Installed Python 2.7.11 however CarraraVWDBridge failed on input of VWD location (tried having VWD in C:VWD and ...RuntimePythonposerscriptsVWD). Installed Python 2.7.12 and it appears to have fixed that problem. Now able to save VWD location and start VWD from Carrara. (Windows10 x64)

    and

The fact that you have a suffixed object created means that the dress has been exported and reimported in Carrara. The message is from VWD. Objects have to be visible to be exported (same in Poser and Studio). After the first export, the original dress is hidden and the copy is visible. If you redo one without hidding or deleting the copy and making the original visible again, it won't work.

But all that doesn't account for the first export that should have worked. I had that kind of error when:

the export takes too long. Most of the time, this is due to the "merge vertices" option checked with a high number of vertices.

The obj file is locked. You may have to cleanup the exchange directory (there is an option in VWD Utilities menu).

Carrara crashed somewhere in the process. that hasn't happened to me for a long time.

    Hope that helps

    Philemo

I believe I had to return my Carrara tmp dir back to its default for VWD to work as well.

Philemo, pleased to see you are well. We were worried for your well being, and happy you are fine and able to rejoin us!

    cheers!

Anyone know what  returning tmp directory back to its default means?

unfortunately I am ignorant of the technical stuff

    it either works or doesn't

since it works on my Win7 machine I use it there and don't poke around too much in case it breaks surprise

    no idea why

scared that PC will die one day, it has hardware issues

I expect the drive to just fail one day and it's not worth replacing

always worth replacing if it runs carrara :)

thanks for your reply, must be cold in melbourne, it's like a fridge here

newest version of python still gives a divide by zero error,

edit sorry newest version pyton crashes vwd bridge

vwd documentation says 2.7 so will try 2.7.12

edit  2.7.12 works with bridges but still divide by zero error in vwd

i think i will give up

Hmm, had another play this arvo and it worked

Ran clergy cassock over m4 in poser 11, using the first VWD version (later version ov VWD did nothing I think?)

Then did the same in Carrara with original vwd on M4 as collison, clergy cassock as cloth - worked fine!

On a hunch put in two vertex spheres in carrara and used one as collision and one as cloth - worked fine.

The two speheres didnt work this morning though.

Only thing I have done differently is run it through poser first.... then fire up carrara.

still works though I have closed poser - maybe a coincidence...

NBV unticking used GPU seemed to fix the latest version. GPU gets ticked again the next time you run it I think, so keep that in mind. The other fix might have been running an old version firts, then the new one - but probably nothing to do with anything. I also deleted a whole lot of old files in one subdirectory for VWD - don't think this did anything.

edit: and the way to save the morphed/clothed  mesh out as an obj is to go to the vertex room, select frame 1 (in this case) and then click 'save' and you can save it as a car file or an obj file etc

I would read that as a path directory was changed or it's state.Don't have C available, but if they are referring to a scratchdisk setting that could mean the size allocated.

thanks 3deedlin. will chieck it out.

have both versions of vwd running now, thankfully.

untick use gpu was the trick

oh, I have no GPU on my Win7 only integrated graphics

maybe THAT's the reason it works there surprise

hmm out of interest I managed to get the vwd draped obj out of an animation by converting it to a primitive then exporting it as an obj, else you just get the original undraped obj

working up 3d print after sculpting mesh withe blender and meshmixer  - making a ship of fools

figure on left is after drape by vwd - not perfect but fun

Ha ha yes, I am doing a ship of fools on my 3d printer, a cast of thousands, well about 11 , have no idea where they will all fit, but that's the fun .... I think.

I don't own the version that uses the GPU

I did not buy the later version because the trial didn't work for me on Win10 either and the original works on Win7

That said I am giving it another go changing some settings and first go worked
