I have an Ultrascenery 2 update in DIM. Does anyone know what that is about?
Is there an USC2 thread? I went through 5 pages and didn;t see one.
The latest I can find in the readme is this:
2025-05-13 Updated
some code clean-up for better reliability
addressed some log file warnings so that they should no longer appear
plays more nicely with UltraScatter2
But it might be you haven't seen it till now?
I think that USC2 was merged into the UltraScenery - New(er) territory.
It just seems that some folks might still be using the script, while others may switch back and forth between it and the plug-in. And the plug-in allows for the scripts ecologies and props to be used, so if something goes wonky, it is seen by all users.
The latest in the readne is:
2024-06-04 Update to 2.0.1.2 Changes:
No longer crashes if you select “Multiply” as the mixing type when you have checked “Height Map” but not actually chosen a map
Can now use “Ignore Culling” on all Biome layers
Forces the terrain to be selected and make it the primary selection when loading presets (to fix some crashes where the terrain was being deselected)
Water properties should be able to be adjusted from within the US2 UI again
Added in some extra null checks when loading JSON files (Studio can crash if it's expecting a value from the JSON and doesn't get it)
I am on a mac and have an M4.
I just installed Ultrascenery and all associated files, including those that have dependencies.
My problem is as follows.
I have installed via DIM (and have visually confirmed that the files reside in the places DIM installed them) -- for example -- Ultrascenery Mossy Hollow and Pacific Northwest (among other packs like Tropical Botanica), but they don't show up as part of my ecologies in in the Ecologies dropdown menu (only, for example, Woodlands, Oak, Pasture ... are listed).
I have tried various resolution landscapes (128, 256, 512), but that didn't make a difference either.
What is the trick to make the missing files show up and work?
The "missing" ecologies are from the old UltraScenery, not the new UltraScenery2. You will find the old ecologies in the Classic Content section of UltraScenery2. Now is a good time to read the UltraScenery2 reference guide (See chapter 6).
Indeed!! Thank you!!
I had seen the "Classic" part on the bottom, but didn't experiment with it long because (a) I thought "classic" meant the original packs before add-on ones were created (b) I saw no check mark box to try out if my supposition was correct.
Consequently, I woud suggest a few tweeks of the UI. Perhaps Howie could:
(1) lighten the background of the "classic" check box (there is virtually no color difference to the container color) and thatclassic is renamed to USC 1 products, or something like that.
(2) Best yet, make the default that these are turned on (so that box is already checked), which would allow people to turn them off if so desired. The assumption shoulf be that people bought them to use them, so I would by default turn them on.
What do you mean by "classic" check box? I don't see anything like that. There is an arrowhead to click to expand the section, but not a checkbox that I can see.
In general, the visibility of one color on another is controlled by the colors in your selected Style (Window/Style/Select Style...). I don't see any visibility problem in the screenshot I attached above. Can you show a screenshot of what you see, because your description sounds so different from mine. I am on Windows and you are on Mac. Maybe that is the difference. Howie Farkes develops his products on a Mac, though, so I would expect it to look fine.
Not sure why, but the UI was set to "darkside: midnite", which made reading the menus difficult. Changed that and now there is no problem (all the checkl boxes, etc. can be easily seen). When I tried to replicate the problem (by changing the settings back to midnite) so I could post a screen shot, I was not able to duplicate the problem. Again, not sure about why that would be either.
For sure! I will be diving deeper into the thorough guides and documentation you have provided the community with. THANK YOU!!!!
I have an issue with UltraScenery 2. When setting up USC2 with Biome, Mask and so on and in the end saving it as Scene Subset, the Biome does not load properly when integrating the saved subset into another scene.
Simple reproduction:
Wow, you are right! I've never tried to save UltraScenry2 as a Scene Subset. So, after reading your message, I tried that today. I used Classic Content and selected River 01 and Oaks 12. When saving it as a Scene Subset, the UltraScenery2 scene node showed no children to select. So I saved the Scene Subset anyway and then merged it into an empty scene. Sure enough, no water and no plants. The UltraScenery2 node did seem to remember all the settings I had selected when saving it, though. What I did to work around the problem was unncheck and check the Water checkbox, which recreated the Water node. Then I Looked at what Ecology Preset it remembered that I had used (Oaks 12) and changed that to None. Then I selected Oaks 12 again, and everything was back.
I don't know if this Scene Subset issue is an UltraScenery2 bug/limitation or a Daz Studio bug/limitation. I used DS 4.24.0.3 on Windows 10 to test.
If you haven't bought everything UltraScenery and you haven't been on the sale page today https://www.daz3d.com/ultrascenery-goodies#index=0&order=popular^1&filtered=1, nor looked at the new offering, https://www.daz3d.com/ultrascenery-2--marinas-and-moorings don't miss this opportunity. The sale page was a big empty for me. But I know others are still buying bits here and there.
Mary,
I bought this first thing this morning although I haven't had the time to install it yet.
You certainly get your money's worth. Personally, I would have prefered a less contemporary looking set but this is still most welcome.
Cheers,
Alex.
I have been delayed by cat feeding, cat grooming, cat play 3x's, cat YouTube viewing, getting ready for work around house... just finished 3rd cat play, wore my back out and the cats won. Now to finalize the cart.
Edit: And done.
I "sort" of like the new ultrascenery UltraScenery 2 - Marinas and Moorings | Daz 3D I would love to see older, weather worn docks, etc for sure.
Question: Can this product be used to create a lake or river without any of the piers, houses, bridges, etc? I guess they could be deleted in the scene panel? or hidden? Boats, now to get some boats.
Just wonder where are the settings for this new set in UltraScenery2 menus?
Could not find them yet.
They are in Terrain Presets.
Mitre Junction from the new Marinas and Moorings UltraScenery2 set.
Thanks, @barbult
I have forgotten to install this new set on C: drive in default location - now it is fixed.
Below is my first test with USC2 Marina 03 terrain preset.
Testing USC2 Marina 02 terrain preset.
I'm looking to buy version 2 as it's on sale at the moment.
Does it provide any way to export into Unity or Unreal Engine please?
I have not tried it yet, but Unity has a lot of other terrain solutions.
Lighter version of the previous scene.
Yes, true, probably best to use something directly designed for it.
Ok, I have tested to transfer the terrain from my latest scene to Unity 6000.1.6 URP.
See the screenshot below.
It requires some editing of the materials in Unity and I still do not know, how to show the instances of vegetation in Unity.
If you find a way, please let me know.
Thanks for giving it a go. I have a couple of terrain generators for Unity already, so will probably stick to using those.
I think I will still pick up Ultrascenery 2, just for use in Daz Studio.
Good choice. Ultrascenery 2 is the best asset for Daz Studio and my favorite.
Actually Unity is very good to render videos very fast (real time recording).
Below is the link to my video on YouTube - draft version - no vegetation, yet.
