Your computer is far newer and more capable than mine. Are you in Iray Preview when you are trying to build a scene? That might be too taxing. We should be able to figure out the problem. Don't give up on it.

no on the iray preview. I've only used that a couple of times on antything, just to try it out. It seems to be the instances more than anything. For intance, the new maple forest, 1or 2, brings the entire scene to a crawl. I loaded just a layer, maple 2 ... that would not move at all, ended up turning the instances/distribution down to basically nothing, then it was able to be moved forward/back, up/down, revolving, etc.  Thing is, if you load full thing, as the forest maple, you can't even use the menu, or anything.

just fyi i just did a total check on system components as well as for viruses, malware, registry, etc etc and everything checked off OK.
EDIT:it might be DS itself though. I had two character in a cene, nothing else, was attempting to reposition their eyes, where they were looking at, and on the 4th one, the program  just went away. I don't want to update.I'm on 2.4.03 now. USC2 has never worked for me since it came out.

(I assume you mean DS 4.24.0.3, instead of 2.4.0.3.) I only upgraded from 4.24.0.3 to 4.24.0.4 in the last couple weeks, because I don't use 3Delight any more, so I didn't care about it being removed. UltraScenery2 always worked fine for me in DS 4.24.0.3, so I think your decision to stick with that version is fine.

Maybe you have some other plugin from another product that is causing a conflict. Early on, I had massive slowdown when I had a plugin between conflict between UltraScenery2 and LAMH (Look At My Hair). Uninstalling LAMH resolved the problem for me. The reason it would cause a conflict was never clear to me. but removing it made UltraScenenery2 much faster. Uninstall LAMH if you have it installed, and see if that fixes things. Don't just disable it. Uninstall it and be sure to restart Daz Studio after doing so.

Another issue I have had with slowing UltraScenery2 was having the Timeline pane active. I don't know if that is still an issue or not. Now I only enable the Timeline pane if I am actively using it for animation or simulation.

Yes 4.24.03...  I do not  hve the timeline active ar all, and LAMH is not installed.  I cant find any install date for DS other than when I upgraded to 4.24 back in May 2025. the resources were installed in november 2024, for 4.23.

i just uninstalled and deleted the packages for all usc2 packages. :Am now downloading and installing the main program, then will download and install the add=ons.

EDIT: OK..i installed the main program, the DAZ Studio content, and biomes 1 and 2. So far everything is working speedy. Tried a couple of the oaks, and 2 of the woodlands ecologies. The woodlands were always the worse. I actually have 2 instances right now and the manipulation if nice and fast. Using sun-sky for rendering. After this completes I will add another package to see if any or which casues a problem. Will restart program after each installation.

The current render took 14 minutes

I assume you are installing with DIM and will never, ever, ever attempt to install or update UltraScenery related products from inside Daz Studio! Using Daz Connect is the kiss of death for UltraScenery related products, as you have unfortunately experienced in the past. (Just a reminder.)

yes, DIM for sure. I never log into DAZ with DAZ Studio. So far things are much faster. I have one of the new maple forests set up right now, and even that can be manipulated. It wouldn't even move at all previously.

That's good to hear. I wonder what the issue was. I hope it continues to work well.

it would be good to know.  Something probably got botched during an installation at some point. I still have 3 more to go so hopefully they all work and dont screw up the works. We will see shortly  :)

Is it possible for installed files to get corrupted from maybe power fluctuations, hiccups, or whatever? I know that I have had .zip files damaged that were stored in their own drive and had to decide to go to fresh downloads when I found some damage files when I downloaded from those zips to a new computer.

Just a simple USC2 Australia image with a very elderly character walking next to the billabong:

No salties here, fortunately, but she's probably not close enough to be at serious risk, anyway.

One question I have is, does USC2 have an extended forest option? If so, can I ask where? The image above could have benefitted from such an option.

    Regards,

    Richard

If I look as good as that very elderly character when I get old, sign me up!

It has been awhile since I used USC2, but IIRC it's possible when using the classic content option.

It's possible, but I would suspect hard drive issues first.

You can load more Ultrasceneries and put one behind your primary..

Though I try to increase tree count, and then add an image as background or backdrop whatever seems best.

Select the Biome Layer you want to extend and expand the Layer Settings section. There is a checkbox for Extend Forest.

For future reference, you can find the Extend Forest option on page 15 of the UltraScenery2 Reference Guide PDF.

Note also that the extended forest instances will be visible in the render, but not the preview.

Barbult, thank you for this information. It's not something I was aware of. I'll give it a go. Regards, Richard.

You are welcome. I'm always happy to help people get the most out of UltraScenery products. You know I'm a big fan of them.

Another useful option, not often discussed, is the Exclude Radius in the Optimization section. It can hide instances that are too close to your camera, blocking its view. This is very useful if your camera is low to the ground and shrubs, reeds, etc are blocking it. It is also useful to hide Extend Forest instances that block your camera, if your camera is in front of the terrain in the extended area.

Many thanks. It worked nicely, as can be seen with the image below, improving on the original (which I was pretty happy with, in actual fact).

OH. MY. DOG!!!! I've played with A LOT of settings and figured a lot of things out, but somehow completely missed this - and it has been a CHRONIC problem for me! On the one hand, SMH, for missing it, on the other hand THANK YOU for mentioning this, @barbult.

I just started using Ultra Scenery 2 and after getting some classic content I’ve run into issues with missing files. I have never used Ultra Scenery, only Ultra Scenery 2. Used the DIM for all installations.

I picked up the Desert Botanical bundle and the PNW bundle. They both have missing files errors when loading. I was able to do renders with both but the missing files seem to affect the ground textures.

I have attached screenshots of the missing files for a PNW and desert ecology

Anyone have any issues with this?

@Tatefa3D in the back cobwebs of my mind, that rings a bell. I'm not any kind of official support person, but I will look into this for you. I think this has been previously reported, IIRC.

@Tatefa3D there is a long discussion about this problem starting around December of 2024. Copying and renaming some files from one location to another looks like the solution for people who don't own the original UltraScenery. Take a look and follow the discussion starting here https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/9013731/#Comment_9013731

If you need more help to get the files copied from/to the right place, just ask here. I always follow activity in this thread, as do many others who can also help.

Edited to add: It is also possible that your missing files are caused by some different problem, so keep asking if the suggestion above does not solve the issue.

@Tatefa3D What terrain or feature have you selected when you got the missing file errors with PNW and desert ecologies?

It varies from ecology to ecology. I've got on several different ones. Each one missing different files depending on the terrain.

Thanks! After reading through the comments it looks like either copying the correct files to the correct folder OR just buying US1 for the missing files is the solution. US1 is on sale right now so...
