...thank you for boih the compelemnt and the tip. The rendered version is still chugging along now at that point where it slows down for a while. Hoping it wil finish in time before the voting starts as it really does look better.
...so a quick question. Would it be OK to replace the screen shot version of my entry with the final rendered one as it finally completed?
@kyoto kid - well done getting something posted just in time (actually it looks pretty good just as it is, but it will be interesting to see the final version when it's done) - great idea anyway!

Tricky question, I think I'll need to check with the others too. If it would have been before closing there would have been no problem, I've seen that done several times (I've done it when I realized I picked the wrong item, or forgot one, or has a real ugliness I failed to spot). But as this is after closing time, but before voting, I would say it's OK, but Let's hear what other say, specially if anyone is opposing. I'll give them a handful of hours (Won't be able to fix voting until tomorrow my time anyway, RL is happily chewing up my time).

as long as it s switched out before the voting starts i think that you should be able to. i just would n t want to vote for it and find it switched with a render of the cast of 500 spartans performing the full monty to the amusement of the retreating persian army. however funny that might turn out to be.

The rendered version is exactly the same, just that the textures and lighting look better as well as there are shadows. Took around 7 hours to render with just the 8 characters (2 of which are the gilt angel statues) and all the mesh lights. No worry that a "cast of hundreds" will show up as I don't have access to Oak Reidge's Titan Supercomputer.
I'd say it's fine to update if KK can get it in before voting starts (and it looks like the same scene only prettier
)
...as it is nearing the end of day in the UK (now 20:33 there) and I need to go off to do some errands from which I won't be back until it is tomorrow across the pond. was wondering if it is OK to go ahead and post the rendered version?
