    That was me, this morning...!

    ...and me this evening.

I Just received the response from SSA about my disability claim and not good news.  They say that I should still be able to do tasks like standing, bending lifting, and carrying, etc. however I am unable to do so at the level my last job (and just about every other warehouse job) requires as that is the only area I have the most experience in. My keyboarding and data entry skills are abysmal and no where near the minimum level that office occupations are demanding today. I am unable to stand on my feet for hours straight at a time (required in restaurant, retail, and assembly positions) without ending up in terrible pain and barely able to walk afterwards.  I do not have what it takes for high public contact jobs like call centres (which I already tried and failed at). As I am not considered even "mildly" disabled, I also am unable to get any kind of accommodation so I would have to tough it out in a physically demanding job which is all I pretty much know.

Add to this the fact that ageism is more the rule instead of the exception in hiring today and that I have been unemployed for an extended period of time, the future doesn't look bright right now.  Without SSI, I would need a job that pays at least 15$ - 18$ an hour to afford a place to live given the rents here. Crikey I can't even get one that pays 10$ - 11$.

    So the choices are:

Submitting an appeal which will require getting a shys...er...lawyer who will take a cut of my benefits, and spending months and months of anguish filing paperwork, getting more exams, and going to hearings.

Or, biting the bullet and taking early SSA retirement this December which will only be 75% of my full benefit amount (just over 700$ a month)

...and if that wasn't bad enough news.

I also got a summons for jury duty as well (that begins next week) which means shelling out 5$ a day in bus fare as I refuse to take my bike there where it would probably be stolen (downtown has the highest rate of bike thefts in the city).

All in all, a pretty rotten day on top of what I am already dealing with getting things packed and ready to move out. I feel like bleedin' a modern day "Job" (a fellow from the Old Testament who's bad fortune would make even the Titanic look lucky).

Could really use a drink right now but need what money I have for laundry.

    700, yikes, that's like 23 a day.

...thank you both.  Not going to deal with it until I am resettled next week as I have 60 days to appeal.

If it had gone through, I would have received about 32,000$ in back benefits to January 2013.  Now I'll have to deal with a lawyer pocketing about 1/4th that should he/she succeed in the appeal.

I will speak out of turn and say it will be worth that to nail them to the wall, the government will try to simply form-and-deny you to death.  I had nothing but bs from the IRS for 2 years before I got a lawyer, wihin 2 weeks we had a liveable agreement and they've not bothered me again.

Don't roll over and play dead.  Just my take.

...yeah, slept on it over night and decided to keep pursuing it.

True I could still work, if I had a degree in say, programming, IT management, systems analysis, web development, or CAD, but I don't, and my condition keeps me from the only type of work I am "qualified by experience" to do as well as unskilled labour jobs.

...and it is only getting worse with time.

After I get settled down, I'm going to hunt around for someone to take my appeals case.  Was able to rechedule the jury summons until next May so that is off my shoulders for a while as well. That will also get me on a shorter case as well as the one I was summoned for is a Grand Jury.which could drag on for weeks.

    hang in ther, man!!

There are legal limits (set by the Social Security Administration) on how much in fees a SS disability attorney can collect, and that has to come only from back pay. Good Luck, KK.

..as I understand it is something like 25%. However by the time it gets to a settlement stage another several months will have passed and since my disability started in 2013, that would mean over three years of back benefits should my case be successful.

    ...and thank you.

The fight will be on after I get resettled.

25% is correct, but there is a $6,000 cap as read it in that article.

...well that is good news. So If my claim does make it, with the retro benefits from the date of the disability on my original application, that would still make for a nive tidy sum.

    Oh yeah...

...my Saturday has been totally y the opposit as I have been finishing up packing tthings for the move tomorrow. Pretty close to finished.  Some of hte smaller stuff that I'm taking to the other place I'll deal with myself as I have to come back Mon - Wed to clean everything up.

Took a couple hours break to get some sun this afternoon and quaff a couple ales down at the local brewey for my last day in the 'hood. Toughest was all the fragile stuff like glassware, china, & such, Now I can pretty much just toss what is left into boxes and tape them up. Not really a lot of stuff but seemed like more because it was all spread about the place.

Flat is looking like more a warehouse.with all the sealed up boxes. Fortunately I have others who will do all the hefting for me.

Just finished my last dinner here, my special Cajun fish with roasted potatoes and an ear of corn. sipping a bit of wine that i had saved and then back to work in a bit.

High Noon tomorrow the truck arrives. May be offline for a day or two until I get everything set up.

The name reminds me of the ROTODYNE which was a strange experimental transport built by Fairey Aerospace of England.back in the 1950s that had both the characteristics of a turborpop airliner and helicopter. As revolutionary as it was for its day, it never saw actual commercial service.

    Does almost kind of fit.

...yeah the British aircraft designers came up with some really unusual ideas some that were often ahead of the times and others that were an improvment on an old concept (the Rotodyne is based off the old AutoGyro concept of the 1930s

It actually uses small jets at the tips of the large rotor which once lift off was complete and the craft transitioned to forward flight, the jets were turned off turned off as the rotor (like a gyrocopter) kept spinning on its own (they were turned back on for landing).  Top speed was 190 knots which in the 50s was incredibly fast for rotor craft.  Some designers today are revisiting the idea but using ducted fans or high bypass turbofans in place of the turboprop engines. Unlike the V-22 the engines don't have to shift geometry from vertical to horizontal flight which eliminates a complicated system and failure point (the V-22 had a number of of bad accidents in development).  If one of the engines for forward flight on an Rotodyne fails, it can still autogyro to a landing.

..yeah that's why I have two big displays. I put all the menus on one and the viewport with just the Render Settings and Scene panes on the other..

Hexagon has small fonts as well, even difficult to read on my displays, However it makes up for that with a nice clean UI to work in.
