    ...45 hours left until Moving Day.

    Finally, unpacked, mail collected and read, most of the bills paid, thank you notes and calls delivered to scattered southern relatives, groceries restocked, and now settling down for a long winter's nap.

    I used to call myself a photographer but have lost the thrill of standing in sweltering swamps, freezing fields, and climbing down canyons.  I'm pretty much limited to snapshots and flowers now.

    Finally able to extract my photos from my camera.  Three Harry Potter places I visited recently in Orlando.  Hogwarts in "Islands of Adventure", Diagon Alley in "Universal Studios" and the Hogwarts Express on platform 9 3/4.

    Notice that I am not in any one of them.  That was intentional.  No selfie stick for me and I can now fully appreciate why Disney banned them from Disney World.  Careless, rude, selfish, narcissistic people running around with overly long pointy sticks obsessed with taking their own picture in every location.  Then standing around looking at the photos admiring themselves and comparing them with their companions snapshots in tight motionless bundles, blocking the crowded streets.  Bah, humbug!

    (note: my pictures don't have a lot of people because I had a 1-hour early admittance pass, so I beat the crowd.  But believe me the rest of the day it was very crowded and the staff tell me it was not a busy day!)

    I still hate the lack of a dark theme.

    I don't think there is a notice on the main page like there used to be.  But if you click on that gear icon and look now and then, there will be a number next to the word Inbox in yellow.  If there are no new messages, it will be zero.  If there are new messages, it will be the number of new messages.  That section has changed, too.  They call it a "conversation" now.  Each conversation has a heading names something like You and Username. where username is the name of the one with whom you are in the conversation.  It's a little odd.

    I Just received the response from SSA about my disability claim and not good news.  They say that I should still be able to do tasks like standing, bending lifting, and carrying, etc. however I am unable to do so at the level my last job (and just about every other warehouse job) requires as that is the only area I have the most experience in. My keyboarding and data entry skills are abysmal and no where near the minimum level that office occupations are demanding today. I am unable to stand on my feet for hours straight at a time (required in restaurant, retail, and assembly positions) without ending up in terrible pain and barely able to walk afterwards.  I do not have what it takes for high public contact jobs like call centres (which I already tried and failed at). As I am not considered even "mildly" disabled, I also am unable to get any kind of accommodation so I would have to tough it out in a physically demanding job which is all I pretty much know.

    Add to this the fact that ageism is more the rule instead of the exception in hiring today and that I have been unemployed for an extended period of time, the future doesn't look bright right now.  Without SSI, I would need a job that pays at least 15$ - 18$ an hour to afford a place to live given the rents here. Crikey I can't even get one that pays 10$ - 11$.

    So the choices are:

    Submitting an appeal which will require getting a shys...er...lawyer who will take a cut of my benefits, and spending months and months of anguish filing paperwork, getting more exams, and going to hearings.

    Or, biting the bullet and taking early SSA retirement this December which will only be 75% of my full benefit amount (just over 700$ a month)

    ...and if that wasn't bad enough news.

    I also got a summons for jury duty as well (that begins next week) which means shelling out 5$ a day in bus fare as I refuse to take my bike there where it would probably be stolen (downtown has the highest rate of bike thefts in the city).

    All in all, a pretty rotten day on top of what I am already dealing with getting things packed and ready to move out. I feel like bleedin' a modern day "Job" (a fellow from the Old Testament who's bad fortune would make even the Titanic look lucky).

    Could really use a drink right now but need what money I have for laundry.

    New synthesizer and effect installed.  Loving Nemesis (the synth), it can handle both light ambinet/New Age and grinding dark ambient tasks.. and it will do electronica, chillout, and trance!

    Picked up a pile of Cup-O-Noodles and Top Ramen on the way home, I'm good for the next week.

    This weekend, I need to work on a new log image for my music project, now that I have Bryce in hand, it's time to up my game.  And try Baboom, a new streaming service that pays the artist a bigger percentage of every track bought than most others.  Worth a shot.

    The dragon is static but every now and then it breathes real fire and you can feel it down on the street.  If you watch it several times (without blocking the path for other people!!!) you can tell when it's going to blow by the noises in the area.  The ride attraction within Gringotts bank is "Escape from Gringotts" and is really fun because you're supposedly following the dragon and Harry, Ron and Hermione up out of the dungeon vaults of the bank.  But the dragon on the outside of the building is static. sad  But perhaps on Halloween it will come to life and eat a few people?  One can always hope it gobbles a gaggle of lollygaggers and selfiesnapers. devil

    Make sure you have your Notification Preferences set for Private Messages -- you can get an email, popup, or both.

    True I could still work, if I had a degree in say, programming, IT management, systems analysis, web development, or CAD, but I don't, and my condition keeps me from the only type of work I am "qualified by experience" to do as well as unskilled labour jobs.

    ...and it is only getting worse with time.

    After I get settled down, I'm going to hunt around for someone to take my appeals case.  Was able to rechedule the jury summons until next May so that is off my shoulders for a while as well. That will also get me on a shorter case as well as the one I was summoned for is a Grand Jury.which could drag on for weeks.

    There are legal limits (set by the Social Security Administration) on how much in fees a SS disability attorney can collect, and that has to come only from back pay. Good Luck, KK.

    ..as I understand it is something like 25%. However by the time it gets to a settlement stage another several months will have passed and since my disability started in 2013, that would mean over three years of back benefits should my case be successful.

    I love the Spring.  I can hear all the different birds early in the morning.  I don't know if they're happy, or complaining that the early bird got the worm and they're hungry.  Probably a bit of both.  I have it both day and night, too.  At night the pond across the street comes alive with froggies.  Two kinds at least.  One kind is chirping, like very loud crikets, the other is the bullfrogs.  Then some of the noisy insects get into the act a little further along.  I love it.

    We are lucky to have a river and parks on three sides of the 'hood, makes up for all the. apartment towers and asphalt and concrete  :)

    I Just received the response from SSA about my disability claim and not good news.  They say that I should still be able to do tasks like standing, bending lifting, and carrying, etc. however I am unable to do so at the level my last job (and just about every other warehouse job) requires as that is the only area I have the most experience in. My keyboarding and data entry skills are abysmal and no where near the minimum level that office occupations are demanding today. I am unable to stand on my feet for hours straight at a time (required in restaurant, retail, and assembly positions) without ending up in terrible pain and barely able to walk afterwards.  I do not have what it takes for high public contact jobs like call centres (which I already tried and failed at). As I am not considered even "mildly" disabled, I also am unable to get any kind of accommodation so I would have to tough it out in a physically demanding job which is all I pretty much know.

    Add to this the fact that ageism is more the rule instead of the exception in hiring today and that I have been unemployed for an extended period of time, the future doesn't look bright right now.  Without SSI, I would need a job that pays at least 15$ - 18$ an hour to afford a place to live given the rents here. Crikey I can't even get one that pays 10$ - 11$.

    So the choices are:

    Submitting an appeal which will require getting a shys...er...lawyer who will take a cut of my benefits, and spending months and months of anguish filing paperwork, getting more exams, and going to hearings.

    Or, biting the bullet and taking early SSA retirement this December which will only be 75% of my full benefit amount (just over 700$ a month)

    ...and if that wasn't bad enough news.

    I also got a summons for jury duty as well (that begins next week) which means shelling out 5$ a day in bus fare as I refuse to take my bike there where it would probably be stolen (downtown has the highest rate of bike thefts in the city).

    All in all, a pretty rotten day on top of what I am already dealing with getting things packed and ready to move out. I feel like bleedin' a modern day "Job" (a fellow from the Old Testament who's bad fortune would make even the Titanic look lucky).

    Could really use a drink right now but need what money I have for laundry.

    ...thank you both.  Not going to deal with it until I am resettled next week as I have 60 days to appeal.

    If it had gone through, I would have received about 32,000$ in back benefits to January 2013.  Now I'll have to deal with a lawyer pocketing about 1/4th that should he/she succeed in the appeal.

    I will speak out of turn and say it will be worth that to nail them to the wall, the government will try to simply form-and-deny you to death.  I had nothing but bs from the IRS for 2 years before I got a lawyer, wihin 2 weeks we had a liveable agreement and they've not bothered me again.

    Don't roll over and play dead.  Just my take.

    True I could still work, if I had a degree in say, programming, IT management, systems analysis, web development, or CAD, but I don't, and my condition keeps me from the only type of work I am "qualified by experience" to do as well as unskilled labour jobs.

    ...and it is only getting worse with time.

    After I get settled down, I'm going to hunt around for someone to take my appeals case.  Was able to rechedule the jury summons until next May so that is off my shoulders for a while as well. That will also get me on a shorter case as well as the one I was summoned for is a Grand Jury.which could drag on for weeks.

    There are legal limits (set by the Social Security Administration) on how much in fees a SS disability attorney can collect, and that has to come only from back pay. Good Luck, KK.

    ..as I understand it is something like 25%. However by the time it gets to a settlement stage another several months will have passed and since my disability started in 2013, that would mean over three years of back benefits should my case be successful.

    25% is correct, but there is a $6,000 cap as read it in that article.

    The maximum the lawyer will be allowed to pocket is $5,000, regardless of the amount of the benefits.
