My test renders complete blisteringly fast. Mainly because it keeps telling me it can't render an empty scene! Hopefully because I forgot to upgrade Luxrender ...! Be nice for Reality to "*cough cough* 'scuse me squire, but ..."
Did you kill old Reality first? Apparently that works for a lot of people having this problem.
I removed all the files but have to able to d/l it 1st to see. Im glad we have a second option just in case we have to wait some issues to get resolved..
He was talking about IRay I think. Can't change those tonemapping settings without the render restarting from scratch. This is different in Lux and I don't want to miss this feature again, really.
Don't know about Reality 4.1 yet, but in Reality 4.0 there was also another option where you actually had to enable the GPU for rendering in GPU mode at least once.
It will still allow you to render in GPU mode without having chosen one, at least it did for me.
It's on the "Render" tab, "Acceleration", and there to the right "GPUs enabled". Check that at least one of those checkboxes is ticked.
Also only "Mono-Directional" ("Render" tab, "Scene configuration", "Type" dropdown) will work (not sure about photon mapping anymore), it won't lock away the other options when you go GPU only, so check you didn't change this.
Then, if it all does not work, there is this "OpenCL Group size" thing for NVidia. Let me quote you the FAQ:
Maybe something of this helps. Good Luck! :)
So folks are buying Reality from Paolo's site and not the Daz Store? Is it cheaper from Paolo than Daz? Or when buying from Daz are you sent to the same overloaded site?
When you buy it here, you get to download it here, from a DAZ server. But you need to register the version on their website, so you're screwed either way right now I think. :|
Edit: clarification
When you buy anytjhing from DAZ 3D , you then download it through the Daz servers, and you get the Daz 3D money back guarantee.
@Deke I guess some people are buying the full thing from Preta directly, but most would be getting the discount for the upgrade at Preta-3D.
Oh, yuck! I thought you got your key from the vendor you purchase from. I guess that better explains what we are seeing.
Finally managed to down load and install Reality 4.1 It's working but it's doing something odd when I cpu boost it. It starts rendering in squares just like 3delight does. I don't recall seeing it doing that in the demo. Do we have to change something in the settings?
I did so soon after as I remembered how (I'm sorry to say this!) rubbish the installer is. It (still) adds a silent directory level on so I had a nested install structure. Deleted the nesting and re-installed and the same thing. I also wish like hell I could use the Luxrender I installed in the location I chose. Off to the official forums I guess to see what the heck is happening.
I don't think you get the money back guarantee as its in the PA sale?
Some of use bought Reality here on DAZ 3D when it was first introduced, but when it left the store we had to continue receiving upgrades at Preta3D. So we get our free and discounted upgrades at Preta3D.
Reality now uses its own version of lux which it installs for you, not a standalone version
I finally got to enter my serial and order numbers

Database Error
Conclusion: Site is a troll
Its all changed pretty much completely now :)
Same here, I downloaded from Daz and installed but can not register reality 4.1, I get the "Can not connect to the database" message. I will try again later.
if the Daz3d purchases of R4 need to go through the preta3d site to register that site is getting overwhelmed right now.
Paolo said he was allowing more connections but I've been getting dbase errors since about 8:00 AM EST with sporadic connectivity.
Yeah I just tried, weird been using it for ages and now decides it needs registering so of course I register and what do you know, can't connect..
Try now I managed to get my copy registered.. :)
yes, it's frustrating but I asked if he'd post the RUG for 4.1 elsewhere for those of us who want to study in the mean time.

Frazzle.... thought I could get my update from the store I purchased it from, even though they finally updated the product information, that file, when I download and install, is still just installing the 4.0 version. Been trying all day to get my update through preta website. Finally got the page in the email link to open, entered my details, and at first it lost connection, but refreshing eventually got through. It says "Error establishing a database connection" but eventually starting downloading the file anyway. Hopefully I'll be able to activate offline using the key he sent me when I bought 4.0. We'll see. Good luck again everybody.
You made it worse :D
I did get it registered and reality works but I keep getting messages that luxconsole.exe and then luxrender.exe stopped working...UGH!!
I bought Reality 4 from DAZ originally and have downloaded the 4.1 update from my product library but not entirely sure if you install 4.1 without uninstalling 4.0 first? I've read through the installation instructions but it doesn't cover that question .. Also do you upgrade Luxrender, remove it or what? No big hurry on the answer as it doesn't look like I'll be able to register 4.1 in the near future until the preta3d site gets less traffic. :(
@EmotionalOutlet From what I've read it is safest to remove Reality 4 first. You can leave your old Lux though (or get rid of it - up to you), as Reality will only call the version it comes with.
I'm looking forward to trying, but I can wait.
The file I got from preta3d appears to be corrupted. I open it and it fails to do anything. Too bad.
meh, almost completed download aaaaand....download failed. But the manual is still a good read. :)
Learned that SSS does not work with OpenCL...and I was wondering about the bad SSS in my renders all the time, which actually never existed... :-/
