  • I don't buy teen figures so have no input on that. Yes even v7 has orange sallow overtones. I think it depends if you like that look whether it bothers you.

Depends on what you are doing with lighting and stuff.

At some point the source of the coloration doesn't matter if I see it in most work involving the character, whether it is lighting and or skin tone. The skin looks off to me. . I never saw it in Gen 2, so I am assuming it is a combo of Iray and the skin.

I dunno about iray as I don't use it. But I've rendered the characters fine myself and when you look at the textures in photoshop they look just like any other. There is no abnormal tint. it's certainly not the textures.

  • I don't know either. To me, The whole line has a brownish off-color cast. I can say that yeah, it is the skin on some characters. It is browner. V7 in particular. She's tanned and sallow.  People seem to like it though. I don't. I don't have the issue with gen 2 skins. Which is why I've gone back. I prefer more rosy skin tones than the brownish muddy look. But judging from the promo art for Josie, people like brown shadows and brown lighting. I admit I'm concerned about M7, as josie is just the latest muddy character released. Not sure why.

To be honest - right now savings are going to a new set of winter tires... As for DAZ - I'll try to save up for Dogz "Old Railway" series..

You may be in luck, "The Old Railway Thumper" is in fast grab now

  • Ah ha! Thanks for the tip-off hacsart - I didn't realise the Fast Grab had changed today. I've been wanting these http://www.daz3d.com/shoe-pack-for-genesis-2-female-s laugh

By which you mean they changed very slightly, ie 1 or 2 items were rotated. Some of the items like the bus stop and the K4 stuff have been in the bi-weekly free list for months now.

well for me it was 5 or 6 things. I am not surprised how much that stuff was recycled though.

At this point, with Josie 7 in my library, I'm wondering what this Arabella 7 is all about. Mostly waiting to see Michael 7, and his shiny new G3M genitalia.

If I wanted to hazard a guess, I'd say Arabella could be either Arabian or Hispanic.

Errr, I'm not sure... Honestly, I cannot find a newsletter option on his site. I signed up to download the DAZ Studio Lighting Ebook. That has an unsubscribe option at the bottom, so is that the newsletter?

Is that 80-85% sale still going on? I only see the original prices. :(

Yes, that's it. You should start getting the newsletter as well now. No the sale is over, but he seems to offer new sales quite frequently. What were you hoping to get?

He has another 80% sale right now, and this time I got what I wanted. Hurray! laugh

  • I already have a GTX 970 so I've decided my next major capital expenditure will be a 980 ti to keep it company.  Well, I  can dream can't I?

    Cheers,

How is that GTX 970 working for you Alex? Does it render pretty quickly?

I really don't know what to do with Daz anymore following the new generation of figures. On the one hand I have loads of Genesis 2 content, some of which I've bought quite recently so I don't want to waste it, so I've been trying to persevere with it. Also all my favourite characters are currently G2F ones. But on the other hand the way G2F bends is just constantly annoying me now that I've seen how well G3F bends, so I really want to get that and start using it instead. But thats not only going to be a big expense, it'll also mean pretty much abandoning all the Genesis 2 characters and footwear I bought, which feels like money down the drain. Its a dilemma that has basically paralysed my rendering at the moment. I'm just not creating anything right now cos I can't decide what to do. I need a therapist! crying

did you ever get any of the bend fixes for G2F? that might help some.

If money is the concern and time is less of a challenge you could learn how to nurse the autofit results so that they aren't jacked up when you convert them to G3F. I think lots of clothes are fine by default, dresses and shoes need a bit of hand holding but it is doable.

G3F didn't slow me down at all. I use her when I have time, But I mostly work with G2F because of the vast amount of tools I have for her. I still use Genesis 1 Males. I just recently FINALLY bought some G2M content. Still mostly on G1 though. Probably will never upgrade my men to Genesis 3. At least not until Genesis 4.

    Stay calm and keep rendering.

Thanks for the pep-talk larsmidnatt smiley.

Yeah, I've got loads of bend fixing products for G2F (probably not all of them, but most) and I can get roughly what I want (but not quite) if I spend a few days morphing the character after every pose but its become a very tedious thing to do now that I know G3F resolves all those issues without the need for those few days work. Its like washing your clothes in the sink every day even though you know you could just get a washing machine laugh. I keep telling myself I should just put in the extra work in order to get the most out of the content I currently have... but that G3F is calling to me... and she's saying "Just buy me. I bend really well. I'll save you all that time and effort and I'll look great winkkiss". Evil temptress!!

Its not so much that I don't have the money - I could easily afford it; its more that I have this old-fashioned sense of trying to get value for money out of everything I buy and with Daz I don't really feel like that happens a lot of the time... So I try to be careful with my Daz spending because its become like an addiction to me frown. Sometimes I actually think I get more pleasure out of buying the products than I do out of using them lol!

Is it possible to make G2F shoes/boots fit G3F? I didn't think it was... That'd make me feel a lot better if it was, cos then all I'd be abandoning would be the G2F characters. I could live with that.

    I hope you are exaggerating!

You can certainly milk your old content for a long while. Pretty sure I've seen threads with people explaing the steps to get boots to work right. From what I read it seemed similar to techniques we used in the past. Sorry no links at the moment.

I understand the idea of avoiding buying stuff just to buy, its a common theme around here. There is always a balance between buying, using and time.

Nope - seriously. I'm so uptight about the shaping my figures end up in after poses etc that I spend several days on each and every image I make to try to get it just perfect. And I only have a GTX 660 to work with, so its like this: pose - render for 15 mins to check - adjust posing - render for 15 mins to check - adjust shape - render for 15 mins.... etc etc. Its the reason I'm considering getting a GTX 970 so that I can use the preview rather than having to render constantly to check each little adjustment I make (the preview currently crashes DS for me with this card if I try to use it).

I do a comic / image sets, so imagine doing that for 60 - 100 images per storyline. Very time-consuming.

Wow I could not work like that. I have a 660ti myself but don't have to let test renders run for 15 minutes....

You have quite a few more cuda cores then compared to me (its like 1344 vs 960), so I'd expect your renders to go a bit faster. But yeah, the closer I get to finishing an image the longer I let the test renders run for, in order to make sure all the lighting etc is working the way I want it to. I also use mesh lighting almost exclusively, which I think slows things down quite a bit.

Seriously, I'm like Nick Park (Wallace & Gromit) with it sometimes lol

It takes a good 2 mins for Iray to show any kind of image for me with the more complex sets.

On topic, I was saving for Reality, but with today's?, this weeks?, this hours? sale of 65% off (though the price listed is 64% off...), with two small items from my wishlist that are flagged on sale as well, it hit the full throttle bonus jackpot and made reality 76% off for under $12!! woo!

Nice! I've been scouring the site looking for some treasures I can pick up as well.

  • I've never hand much in terms of problems fitting shoes or boots to G3F, at least not after several disastrous initial forays. What I do is zero G3F, then drop anything I need her wearing on the unmorphed, zero-posed figure. Atuofit adapts pretty well when you remove all the variables that are under your control. Once you've got it, then do a save as -> Figure or Prop Asset and stow it in your library. Not an issue thereafter. Shader settings can be transferred as well, although you will need to do some matching on the arms. The textures themselves are useless, with the exception of eyes. Those work as-is.

Long hair is where I run into difficulty-- I like using it, but Autofit doesn't do those particularly well. It the hair is rigged in any way, you're pretty much boned(pun intended).

Hmmm, that method doesn't seem to work for me. Although most of my G2F footwear is high heels, so maybe thats why because the boots seem to autofit to G3F pretty well, but not the high heels.

Can't say that I've noticed many problems with G2F hair autofitting to G3F though. The only one I've had trouble with has been Elite Ponytail for G2F because the movement morphs for the ponytail don't work if you fit the hair to G3F for some reason...

That's the common issue. I got the boots from the Leris outfit running without a hitch, and I've done the same with other sets that have spiked heels. The ones I get problems with have a pose for the shoes.

G3F seems to want to repose the foot to match some shoes, and typically the shoes are having none of that. Most load in with poses that match the foot, and then you have to adjust.
