Shade 3D System Requirements

Frankly, I don't think Daz at it's blackest would have the economic clout to bujy Shade

Shade is handled by a japanese company and DAZ venture capitalists are japanese too. I would not be surprised the least if the DAZ-Shade marriage would grow in the future.

B.t.w., Shade and Lightwave are the only two general purpose 3D application below 1000$ still alive in the post Blender-calypse era.

Importing and exporting is a common practice. Shade supports poser scaling if you want to use OBJ instead of FBX for whatever reason. FBX doesn't have that challenge.

Imports Genesis 3 FBX OK. (using basic version, so no idea about rigging). When exporting out FBX, there is a Daz compatible FBX checkbox. Pretty sweet if you ask me. Until it crashed on export. Will try again.

Surely most modelling programs don't support Daz Studio formats directly.

    except of course Carrara, heart

To answer Fragg1960's question, Shade is a stand alone modeller and doesn't work as a plug in for Daz Studio. I found it fairly intuituve to use but I don't know what ZBrush is like.

Zbrush is a wonderful/versatile program wrapped in an unintuitive interface designed for the aliens that invaded Earth in the movie "Independence Day." When I think of ZBrush I think of Friedritch Nietzsche ("And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you").  It's kind of like that.

ZBrush is also a prohibitively expensive program, which this isn't, well, if you go Basic anyway. ZBrush does have its free sibling Sculptris though and I do have that.

Is this 32 or 64 bit

    Doesn't say, hopefully 64bit.

    both

did one more - import ok - export ok ( can't use it in DS ( so far )) - DS said bones not correct

edit - so you can't do any thing in DS .

If this is to become a marriage I REALLY hope that DAZ builds a proper bridge for Shade and DAZ Studio like they did with ZBrush and Hex (which sadly, this will be the final nail in that coffin if this Shade venture takes off fully).

  • Hmmm... I guess this should send up a big flag for us.

Carrara is dead, with three modeling rooms.

  • I'm intrigued by the possibility of adding such an inexpensive set of NURBS tools to my bag of tricks, but I can't for the life of me find any information or YouTube videos demonstrating that feature set.

which version did you try? I had the same result but I am using basic which from what I read does not support rigging. (i could be wrong) I would likely only use it for morphs/basic modelling though so lack of rigging isn't a deal breaker (for the basic version anyway)

Does the basic version have UV mapping?

I cannot find a comparison chart anywhere for the three versions.

Anyone got their Serial Number yet?  I'm still waiting for mine, and I put in a support ticket earlier this morning.

OK. I give up. How do you download it. It said it wasn't DIM ready, but it takes me to a page where there is a manual download which is a word document and then there is a link to download and install via DIM. And that's it.

yeah I am not compelled to do more than basic myself. I bought a lot of stuff this year already...

btw, if you import a Daz FBX into Shade, the breast bones are are reversed, just like they are in Unity and Blender.

did you try the render - cool that you can move the model and get all most real time

The document tells you have to register the product. All I need now is the serial number. I guess I'll download it from their site and wait for the serial number. I think that happened once before with another internal product.
