...very vtue about the 2 vs 1 CPU, your single 12 core/24 thread CPU is faster than two 6 core CPUs even at the same clock speed.  However this si the technology that is pretty much at our disposal. Intel does have a 36 core hyperthreading CPU but it is still in the development stage and is targeted more towards large research systems rather than us enthusiasts, same for Nvidia's forthcoming 32 GB Pascal GPU (imagine the compute power of a Cray Titan with 18,688 of those 36 core CPUs and Pascal GPUs - scary)..

I will be delving more into memory configuration/management in the coming months as considering the investment involved.  12 GB of Video memory may seem a lot but I'm sure will find a way to exceed it especially once I start rendering in sizes for fine art quality prints.

Dang, that's a lot of power! surprise

...yeah it would have 1,345,536 processing threads (as the Intel CPU is hyperthreading so each CPU has 72 threads) and the Pascal Based Tesla GPUs between 4500 - 6000 CUDA cores which would come to a total of 84,096,000 to 112,128,000 GPU cores.  Not only powerful, but extremely fast. The interesting part is the Pascal architecture draws less power so it will produce less heat and have a smaller form factor than the current Kepler Tesla units.

Scarier will be the Titan's "successor" at Oakridge, the Summit which will use the new IBM Power 9 CPU and Compute GPUs along with the forthcoming Volta architecture employing Nvidia's new NVLink direct link concept. It is projected to have five times the application power of the Titan with a peak floating point performance of 150 - 300 PetaFlops. For comparison, the Titan is rated at 20 - 30 PetaFlops.

Could an ExaFlop supercomputer be far behind?

    PETAFLOPS! indecision

    FREAKING. PETA. FLOPS. indecision

Cashed in Apple store GC's I got last Christmas for Photoshop Elements  ( nice to see shortcut keys are like GIMPs laugh ) which comes with Premiere Elements as well for some reason, the very first Photoshop I ever used, I mean if I ever do, so I guess the Filter Forge bought in a moment of consumerist madness might start working for me. Anyhow my complaint is I checked to see whether PSE handles batch processing and YYEESS said the webpage but Oscar Mike Gulf, forgot to check the fine print which says NOOOO, not really laughlaughlaugh

The post office still hasn't delivered my AC adapter.  I might need to file a complaint with the United States Postal Service.  I should contact the merchant to see if they may possibly offer refund.

...first Troutface, and now you.  Makes me hesitant to think about ordering my memory upgrade now.

The Why Can't Anyone Seem to Deliver My Order Complaint Thread?

...yeah I  know this is early considering the new software changed the number of posts per page

Hmmm...I wonder if they will be breaking up threads or if they're be infinite?  indecision

It's going to be a surprise for you all, when we decide to split off a new thread.

If Micorsoft made coffe makers then you would turn them off with the start button.

Complaint: spent 4 hours today out in a re-purposed guard shack (turned into a micro-lab) going from 94f temps into a 70f shack over and over.  Tired, tired, tired. crying

BUT - it beats NO A/C or fan, which we've been living with for 3 days.. made my hardware guy sick and he had to go home, poor dude.

Question: why didn't I have to go home? I'm 20 years older than he is and I have health issues.  Very weird.. we were both drinking plenty of water..

16 minutes till bus home, diet Coke and vodka tonight... chillllllllllllllllll.. cool

I got a "waterfall" machine today at PetCo.  Actually it is a water filter for Fred.  He needs nice and clean water even though he is going to poop in it.

It takes time.  When I had 4 tanks and fancy external filters, the place sounded like there was a tornado outside!

    ...+++1.

Glad they aren't the contractor for Airbus.  I can see it now, pilots have just gone through the final pre landing checklist when all of a sudden all the screens go blank as the control system reboots and then comes back up with the message "configuring updates 1 of 208, do not turn off machine".

    ...the opposite here..

Felt like a piece of bacon in a skillet during my trip to the market (ran out of bagels for brekkie and the natural food market down the street charges almost as much for one single bagel as the other market does for a pack of 6, plus most of theirs have weird "Euell Gibbons like" stuff in them and are often as hard as a rock) .Part of the walk (not about to ride my bike in this heat) involves crossing a over wide motorway and railway tracks that paralell it on a long bridge with no shade whatsoever.  At least the market as it was air conditioned, so I took my good nature time shopping to prolong the stay before going back out into the easy bake oven for the walk home.  Going to be about the same tomorrow..

Never thought I'd consider the 80s to be comfortable weather.

Going to wait until the sun goes down to make dinner tonight.  No rendering for the next six days either. Crikey I'll have such a backlog I'll need a couple Titan-Xs just to get it all done.

Getting toward midnight Friday night here, isn't real cold but dark clouds are scudding across the full moon so must be overcasting again but looks quite picturesque right now :)
