Can't Register or Use Auto Fit

geoffmccabegeoffmccabe Posts: 39

I just purchased Auto Fit but I can't figure out how to enter my serial number.

The instructions are simple and clear, but no "Register" button is appearing. So how do I register this? Of course I've tried shutting it down and restarting.

I've also tried just doing it, but Auto Fit doesn't seem to come up as an option when I need it. I've tried dragging and dropping clothing made for V4 onto my V6 figure but there's no Auto-Fit in the menu of options. I've tried all the available options, but nothing happens with any of them.

I hope you have a suggestion to make this work.

Thanks.

You don't need a separate serial number for Autofit, just the free DS4 Pro serial number.

And to Autofit from V4 to V6 you need http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female
The autofit clones that come with the free Starter Essentials are only for one generation back (e.g. V4 to V5 or V5 to V6), to go 2 generations back you need add-ons.

In this case I already have my character done and ready, and just need to add the clothes. How would I use the "Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 female" to get the clothes onto my model?

When you install it, it adds the clone for V4 to the G2F autofit options, so after that the autofit dialog will offer V4 as an option.

OK I installed it but it doesn't seem to be there. How do I bring up the G2F autofit options?

I'm dragging the clothing onto the figure, and I wait for a window to pop up, which gives a few options, but none of them are AutoFit and none of them work.

How did you install it, and where to?

Does the clothing load? If so, select the clothing and use the 'Fit To' option to force Autofit to appear.

Did you notice this on the Product Page, and are you trying to apply a material or just load the clothes?

note: Due to a limitation in how DAZ Studio handles presets, only material presets which are in DUF format can be directly applied. Any existing material presets must be re-saved in DUF format from the original Victoria 4.

You may have broken Studio by installing that Auto-Fit plug-in. Uninstall the plug-in then uninstall / re-install Studio, you may want to run a registry cleaner after uninstalling and before re-installing.

jestmart: I didn't install anything. The Auto-Fit plugin only included a PDF that explained how to get a keycode, which apparently I don't need. Not sure why Daz is selling this if it's not needed:

    JimmyC_2009:

    1. I purchased it from the Daz3D site and installed it automatically in the regular way using the Download Manager. I don't know "where" it was installed to. I wasn't given any options of where to install it to.

    2. The clothing doesn't load. I don't get any auto-fit option. I am trying to drag-and-drop the clothing (http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=91893) to the figure, by holding down the mouse button on the body part to bring up the menu. Auto fit isn't one of the options. I only have "Default Load", "Fit to Victory 6 HD", "Parent to Victoria 6 HD" and "Apply to Victoria 6 HD" I've tried other V4 clothing and the same thing happens so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the particular clothing.

    3. I'm just trying to load the clothes.

There is no need to purchase or install Autofit, it comes as part of the DAZ Studio main installer.

Please look at jestmart's post above, uninstall Autofit from DIM, then reinstall DAZ Studio.

If you did purchase AutoFit, you may want to submit a ticket to ask for a refund. If you bought it within the last 30 days that shouldn't be a problem. Even if you bought it earlier than that it might still be worth asking.

As I said above, I didn't install Autofit. I purchased it, and downloaded it, but it didn't include a plugin or anything to install, and anyway the built-in autofit didn't work either because it wouldn't allow me to add a serial number (see my post above.)

At this point I haven't done anything but install this: http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female which doesn't seem to have installed itself properly. I don't know how to check "where" it was installed, if it was installed properly, how to get it to work, or how to fix it.

Anything that you install with DIM, you can check.

Go to the Installed tab in DIM, select the item you are looking for, right click, and then select 'Show Installed Files', that will show you where it has been installed to. DIM installs by default to : C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

I checked that folder and nothing with a name that looks like this is there. I checked DIM and it says it's installed, in this folder. Do you know what it's named to help me find if it's there?

If DIM says it's installed , then it is. The problem may be that you don't have 'My DAZ 3D Library' listed in preferences. The item you have bought says the following on the Product Page:

This product contains only new shapes for Genesis, there are no user-facing files.

so there is nothing to see in any library, just the Parameters pane, and Autofit when it pops up. Autofit ONLY appears when you try to fit V4 clothing to Genesis 2.

I need a few other answers here:

1 Did you install all the rest of your content using DIM, including Genesis and Genesis 2?

2 Is it installed to the same folder?

This is what you should see in DIM when you Show Installed Files for the V4 for Genesis 2 Female:

    C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library) :
    /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 2/Female Genitalia/UV Sets/DAZ 3D/Victoria 4/Victoria 4.dsf

Jimmy, first of all, thanks for taking the time to reply in detail to help me. I really appreciate that.

About listing "My Daz 3D Library" in preferences, I think you mean in the content manager? I checked and it wasn't there, so I added it to both Daz and Poser formats. But it didn't work. It's strange because all my other content I've purchased and installed through DIM has worked until now.

    1. Some of my content is through DIM, but not all. I have many other things from various friends, the internet, and freelancers I work with on my project.

    2. I have a few folders trees that are part of the Content Manager. I had a previous computer crash and die, so when I re-installed Daz on my new computer, I took my backup of the previous Daz installation, with all its thousands of folders, and put it on my new computer, then pointed the Content Manager at it. It seemed to work and my old content is there.

For the list you sent me, where do you see that? I've been unable to find a "Show Installed Files" command.

To see what files are installed:

    load up DIM.
    click the tab labeled installed
select the item you want to check
right click it and from the drop down that appears choose "show installed files"

Yes they seem to be the same:

And to another question you asked, yes I have installed through DIM:

    Genesis Starter Essentials
    Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials

Another silly thing you can try (I say silly because really they shouldn't be related but it does work on a lot of oddball D|S issues) is going to workspace>layouts, switching to a different layout then switch back to the one you prefer to use.

I have no idea why this actually fixes anything (other than maybe forcing a reload of the settings?) but it has worked on a bunch of weird little issues I've had.

If that path was not there, I don't see how you could have even loaded Genesis 2 Female, it should not have appeared in the Content Library?

The point here is, the 'V4 for genesis 2 Female', needs to be installed to the same folder exactly, as Genesis 2 Female. Can you check in DIM that G2F was installed into the same folder too? i.e. C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

Can you also post a screenshot of your Content Directory Manager showing the expanded view of both Formats please?

What clothing are you having a problem with, and what is the exact name and location of the file you are trying to load?
