THE ROPE is what got me.
A pirate with a 3-deck ship of the line is rather overkill. (HMS Victory was/is a 104-gun (first rate) dreadnought.)
A fifth or sixth-rate Frigate would be a big ship for a pirate, and the British Royal Navy frigates would be pretty much 1-deck ships (~30-40 guns).
You don't want a ship that can stand in the line of battle. You want light and fast, to outsail the fat merchant ships.
More guns = less tonnage to store booty, more likely to blow up your fat merchantman.
Not a good combination.
You just need to sail well enough and shoot enough guns to make the merchantmen surrender. Anything more than that is a waste for a pirate.
