Quick n' dirty test of Alawa. Love love love her! The bundle itself not so much but the character YES! (Note - I did reduce the boobage by 25% because I'm pretty over the vast majority of Daz characters having gigundoboob...been there still doing that and I see enough gigundoboob in real life kthanxitsnotfun)

    Excellent.

I have only one (criticism?), I think the HD on the bra is too much; would she have so much indentation, considering both her build and athleticism?

If you've not put this in the gallery, I'd suggest doing so.

Testing out the new DS Beta.  Decided to play with new items from the Pro Bundle also.

Having had some time to sit on the offer, I think the bonuses would have to be impossibly good to sell me on the pro bundle. I’m not interested in retro sci-fi, I think a lot of the outfits are just plain hideous besides, and none of the add-on characters interest me. I have Alawa herself and the Raquel hair sitting in my cart for the last couple days, and I’m hesitating to even pull the trigger on those.

Also, a thought occurred to me a couple days ago: what if the reason Dasan and Alawa are so heavily sci-fi themed is specifically to avoid any accusations of stereotyping? After all, you can’t really get farther from native Americans (or, at least the popular conception of them) than future space people.

I have nothing against scifi. My problem is with this retro scifi unrealistic clothes.

If these were realistic scifi clothes that could fit into a serious environment I would be much more inclined to get the bundle even if I don't have anything scifi planned right now.

Personally I love the silly, over the top retro sci-fi stuff. It's actually what a lot of the classic sci-fi shows and movies where about. We have a TON of "serious" sci-fi stuff - it's refreshing, imo, to see something different and unique. :)

Having themed bundles means you can help fill a niche that may otherwise not get as much attention or content. While this one may not be your cup of tea, maybe the next one will be. I love the themed bundles and some I pass on because I just don't render "that type" of art, other themed bundles fly into my cart so fast they break the sound barrier. lol Not every bundle or theme is going to be to everyone's liking though, and that's ok. :)

What I don't understand is the combination with Alawa. I understand having this time of theme to cater to everybody. I don't understand why it had to be with such a realistic character. If it was with a character like Rynne I would have understood it and even been happy or any other cartoonish type character, I would have been even happy as I am also not interested in that type of character.

Or they could have had a themed bundle, sepparate to the main pro one, like CJ and Dain had.

Oh well, it's at least savng me money.

To me, it makes sense. A lot of scifi plots involve people who are pushed to live in the outskirts of the galaxy because invaders destroyed the Earth or whatever colony they lived in. The retro theme implies the light-hearted cheesy spin on it since it usually doesn't take itself seriously and has a touch of optimism in it. Perhaps there was no destruction and Alawa and Dasan just hang out with the aliens, like Zelara and Nix. (Another pair of very realistic characters with unrealistic items bundled with them.)

If the bundles aren't to your taste at all, just grab Alawa, if you like her. I do like retro scifi, but these particular items don't interest me. I doubt I'd grab the bundles any time soon.

I actually own both Zelara and Nix as those bundles look great and, in my opinion don't have anything retro about them. I don't see what you see unrealistic about their scifi stuff.

Regarding getting Alawa now, it is just not worth it. Base characters are just so ridiculously expensive... If let's say I want to take advantage of the %discount for add-ons, and I also have the purple banner, the bundle comes at 37$, the base character at 17$. So for extra 20$ you get an absurd of stuff more + in this case the 60$ offer of DOs. So for sure I would never be getting a base character while new and I would not recommend it to anyone as it feels like the worst deal in the world. (Even if it wasn't such a small difference between the bundle and the base character, 17$ for a character is huge, especially considering that it doesn't even have HD on it, as that is sepparate and again expensive)

So you have never seen anything unrealistic about this outfit for instance? https://www.daz3d.com/symbiont-outfit-for-genesis-8-males

Saving is an illusion, if you're not going to use the absurd amount of stuff you're picking up, at least once. It's still spending too much money.

I got Alawa because she looks great and is a welcome addition to my art projects. (I have been wanting a realistic Native American G8F character for a while now.) Hardly anything else, except her base, interested me. So all that "saving" is spending more on getting other stuff I don't care for that will clutter up my product library, just for the one item I like. This is great for first time shoppers or those who like to collect, but not for me.

I can remove the weird thingy on the chest (although that is still tons better than this https://www.daz3d.com/element-blue-outfit-for-genesis-8-females) and the rest of the outfit is looking good to me.

I agree with you that buying tons of stuf that you don't want just because it's a good deal is not ideal, that is why I am not buying the bundle either.

I was just stating that it feels at the very least weird to me to buy something that I know I am getting a bad deal for (just the base character).

  • I'm new here and had never bought a pro-bundle... just too exspensive considering some of the products are of little interest and Alawa 8 was no different.

But i soon realized that i could get 3 of the pro-bundles in my wishlist for $17 each! (Now thats a bargin) so after much consideration i bought the gift card.

and to think i almost spent my budget on the zevo sale (although i'm still very much having to fight off that compulsion).

Turns out i love Alawa... she even looks way better to me than in the promo art!

    Great weekend yes

That is not really 17 each, because you also spend 66 or more on Alawa and the addons. Two week ago, because of better general discounts, adding a single flash sale you could also grab up to 3 gen8 pro bundles for 17 each without spending a single extra dollar. That was a bargain and i wish i had more money, could only afford one myself.

Zelara and Nix, while realistic, are Theme characters because of additional characteristics; you would expect theme items with them. Just like with all the fantasy characters.

Alawa and Dasan are realistic but not theme per se, they are artificially putting them into a niche environment by force and Daz really had no need for it. You could get the same result if you make the bundles more neutral and then dedicate one day to the retro stuff. Daz did not introduce Dasan, did not introduce Alawa; they introduced Retro Sci Fi bundle for G8 Males and Retro Sci fi bundle for G8 Females.

Grabbig Alawa(or any main character) alone is only if you have too much spare money (because they are way overpriced) and you already have tons of pro packs to get the purple banners. I have neither.

As someone who has worn bras for thirty or so years...yes. The band of a bra is supposed to be tight, as that is what bears the brunt of the weight...not the shoulders. Provided it fits properly. Unless she is made out of concrete, then it would smush whatever soft meat is there.

Glad you like the image, though! The soft body morph is actually provided by OOT's bra, so it's not something I made. When I have a chance to be lazy, I sure take it.

More retro neon future imagining. I'm still liking this combo very much, the realistic and ethnic character with the really cool bundle set. I find some of the other 'ethnic' outfits can be too cheesecake to be kitbashed into realism, or otherwise a bit cringe worthy (at least from a realism standpoint - no more than a pink or purple, bottomless chaps set for an American cowgirl). So why not stick with a very stylized set?

Just a note, for those that have been on the fence with the Alawa 8 sale so far:

ATM Today's Zevo sale includes a 50% off select DO's if you buy a new release from that sale.  This seems to help with the discounts on the $60 worth of select DO's in the Alawa 8 sale...

so you can add a zevo release to the same order as Alawa8?

I was already having difficulty finding products to fulfill that $60 free deal. I think it means I have too many products already, or they keep putting up the same stuff as items to choose for free discounts. But 50% off some of them would be really good.

I had the same problem as well...they keep putting up the same stuff for the free content...it's Daz Originals items...and I've depleted my wishlist of those things down to nil. The next Pro Bundle that comes out I don't think I'd be able to find anything and I'm not going to pick out rando stuff I don't want.

random stuff is exactly where I'm at. Its hard to refse free though, but I spend a long time trying to find something thaqt might work someday. I think I'm out to 203 or so now with maybe I'll use it someday laugh

A lot of times I won't even install that free rando stuff. Like half of the stuff I get from Pro bundles I don't even install...very rarely do I actually like one of the characters that comes in the bundle aside from the actual figure. I don't install that stuff because the more you have installed, the slower Daz moves. So when I get down to the dregs of finding stuff that I actually want, it might be time to skip the bundle and just buy the base figure.

Yeah I feel the same. Often I like one character but not really the stuff that comes with it. I have already bought all the DO stuff that I like and will use and I don't buy the pro bundle if the items included don't appeal to me. Then I just wait until the character goes on sale.

Also feel the same about characters. I never render characters as their artist made them and I kind of kitbash my characters from various sets and assets. I end up rendering a handful characters and don't have the need for new ones, so often I look at characters in the store and admire how darn good they are but don't buy them because I know beforehand I will never render them.

I think Alawa's out of box appearance is my favorite out of all the core figres but your mix gives her a very different look and I like it!

Could you possibly give some hints about which others you used to get this final mix? :D

Sorry, but there were a LOT! Individual feature morphs mixed with small increments of a variety of other characters.... Just try your own, it's really fun to experiment and make something original!

Very pretty! I've noticed that on both of ours there is a shadow on the teeth that I've not noticed before on other characters. Not sure if it's our lighting or what...
