Currently on the fence on this one.  The Purple Banner did show up for me eventually, and helps a little bit, but compared to the last sale...

I mostly like the bundle, and the addon items in the cart, but the price is a bit over my comfort zone for pro bundles these days.  With Dasan 8 at least, I managed to squeeze 30 items into my cart for about $75, including another product bundle (Gamer Bundle).  Plus, I ended up with some really cool items in that cart selection.  With this one, I'm looking at maybe 10-12 items for over $60, and the remaining DO's for me are mostly 'meh' by comparison, i.e. stuff on my wishlist but not stuff I really really want... That's partially due to getting most of the 'must have DO's' before this sale, but yeah...

The purple banner coupon also locks out use of other coupons, so there's not much reason to hope for some other stacking offer, as flash sales often have their own coupons associated with them.  The best we can hope for is some other sale that drops the values of the select DOs...

So I'll come back to my cart later in the day and see how I feel about it.  As I said, I like some of the addon items in the sale, and the sci fi vibe, but this sale is a bit underwhelming otherwise.  Not as bad as some a couple of other recent Pro Bundle sales at least, which I ended up passing on, so there's that...

I agree with the people who see a mismatch of the character and bundle. I wish they had done a toon-like character like Judy Jetson! Except for the character, the rest of the bundle just screams The Jetsons to me (which I love!) I would like to see an actual Native American bundle some time in the future though too.

And still really hoping for that purple banner! I own all except maybe 4 of the Gen8 bundles. The freebies are all from an old section that's been picked through over and over. I'd really hate to have to miss out on a bundle I really like because the deal is so bad...

    checked your messages?

I have a banner and don't own that many

LOVIN-GEN8 is the code in it applicable only to recepients for 20% off so will work if you qualify

Just got the banner (at some stag ein past hpur or so?) and it helped make me decide to get teh retro space outfit, plus I added the Butler stuff, and the coupon does not work, so ARE these Alawa 8 new releases or not?

I like the character, but no strand-based hair.

Poses I only buy when they're bundled; expressions - wow, don't recall buying them ever but it could have happened; one dforce clothing item - so a small plus.

The characters are great, and the only thing I'd be interested in.

I'll admit the sci-fi theme doesn't really grab me. I prefer my scifi to be almost indistinguishable from the norm, as a rule anyway.

Alawa is an Insta-Buy for me.

The character herself should have been a good 10 years older to match Dasan 8. Really a missed opportunity for Daz.

I really like Retro, if done right. I don't really fancy her outfits that much, except the spacesuit. Still, I give them the credit for trying.

This is a nice set. Hopefully, someone will make a 50yr old morph for Alawa

It's a bit pricey but I got a purple banner so that helps.

I always try to buy something I asked for, even if it's not quite right. Hopefully Daz keeps up the creation of diverse characters with novel themes.

I want to know what this outfit is. And if that is the Neon Dream outfit, can that look be created using the included presets?

The skirt looks to be from here: https://www.daz3d.com/solaris-outfit-for-genesis-8-females

    With the texture add-on: https://www.daz3d.com/solaris-outfit-textures_Demian

The top looks like a regular sports bra with the trim turned emissive.

Alawa, in some renders at least, reminds me of Cara Gee (who I best know from her role as Drummer from The Expanse).

WOW! She has fantastic skin. I'd say close to (if not definitely) photo-real. Great work, DAZ!

Now, if only we could get photo-real hair....

I'm not gonna backtrack: I love the base character and the bundle is loads of fun IMO, BUT I definitely agree it's an odd pairing. Jonathan and Josephene looked like old 60s-70s "Man from U.N.C.L.E" era spy characters so that pairing made sense, but unless I'm ignorant to the connection I don't see how Daz's first indigenous American characters being matched with retrofuturism fits in the same sort of way... but maybe it doesn't have to! It's a fun concept, but definitely it would have been nice to nod to more than just the 60s/70s retrofuturism. It's such a broad and inspiring aesthetic if you're a sci-fi lover! Steampunk, Metropolis, Atomic age, 80s Bladerunner style, on and on...

Also, no purple banner for me yet. I now own 4 DO pro bundles so perhaps the cut off for eligibility is 5 or more. That would make sense as a number I guess.

I would've loved to see a Steampunk/dystopian future style too for the theme of the pro bundle.

IMO the theme of your first renders BLOWS AWAY all of the promo renders for this character - grittier, more expressive, and I do like the more "future" futuristic elements better. Even your contemporary render is more enticing as a promo. Nice work!

Oh wow, thank you! That's very sweet of you to say! laugh

Once again, I'm astonished at how many people judge the newest official character model for whatever the marketing department happens to decide gets bundled with it as additional products.

  • Gorgeous and so is Dasan 8

Love all the 8 characters for the most part, don't have them all, but damn they're lovely

Speaking only for myself, the bundle and the character are related but separate issues.  I judge the character based on whether it will add to the pool of "actors" for the "cast" of my 3D dramas and comedies.  Most Daz3D numbered characters (Victoria 8, Michael 7, David 5, Aiko 6, etc) are designed to be lead actresses and actors.  Yay, two thumbs up for lead actors and actresses.  There is a reason they usually get paid more than supporting actors and actresses.  But my 3D dramas and comedies need character actors and actresses as well.  I need some Thomas Mitchels and Thelma Ritters.  Thus the common complaint late in the figure cycle that we don't "need" another 20-something female hottie.  The occasional Floyd 8 or Mrs. Chow 8 is most welcome.

But I feel no urgency to evaluate or buy the characters models during the release sales.  They are often included in later "Daz Content" sales.  If I like Mrs. Chow for her contribution to my cast gene pool, but don't like the rest of the bundle, I can delay purchase of the Mrs. Chow figure with little regret.  I can get her in a future sale.

The bundles are different to me.  The bundles sometimes offer a good discount compared to what can be gotten later.  They also sometimes have a theme for the next drama or comedy to be produced.  But the bundles can come with stuff I don't anticipate ever wanting.  Its not worth it to get useless stuff at a steep discount.  On this, everyone's tastes and needs differ.

During the introductory period I judge the newest bundle release by what the marketing department has bundled with it, and what the sales department has allowed me to add in as part of the purchase or at steep discount.

Quick n' dirty test of Alawa. Love love love her! The bundle itself not so much but the character YES! (Note - I did reduce the boobage by 25% because I'm pretty over the vast majority of Daz characters having gigundoboob...been there still doing that and I see enough gigundoboob in real life kthanxitsnotfun)

She looks so genuinely happy, and her skin is amazing! It doesn't look painted like Latonya's and Darcy's and Nida's and Silas' and Leroy's.

WOW! Great render! Her skin really is a cut above the rest, and you picked a great hair. There is something "not real" about her teeth, but I don't think I've ever seen photoreal teeth on a DAZ character.

Did you create the morph for the "micropressure" morph for the top?

  • Jetsonesque is what I would call it too, and I have been waiting for a bundle like that.  Into the cart it goes

Also: Wikipedia says: "Alawa people, an ethnic group of Australia".

Reportedly, it also means "pea" in Algonquin, a Native American language.

That's right. Alawa (pea) is a Native American name for for a girl just as Dasan (son of bird clan leader) is a Native American name for a boy.

  • DAZ should have attired them with Native American garb!

The micropressure morph pictured is actually part of the OOT top. I wish more outfits came with included morphs...I could be lazier that way, lol.

Thank you! Alawa is such a fun character and I love her so much. My problem is that most of my artwork is fanart of my own original characters from video games, and I don't have enough characters to make use of all these wonderful models!

I'm using the HD add-on as well as Zev0's recent skin folds morph pack (which you can see on her right shoulder).

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. That is awesome!!! What lighting did you use on her?

Honestly I passed over Alawa as soon as I saw her...but this image...wow. I'd buy her just based on this....if the aussie dollar didn't suck so bad right now. LOL. Even with purple banner, no way can I afford pro bundle or even the base character LOL.

But yeah, wishlisting her based on your art!
