I have a zombie Josie render here, done with the creature creator set.

    Thanks.

$600 for an i7!? That must be one hell of a processor! The 6 core AMD that I'm after comes out at about $132. Everything else I'm putting in is AMD so I'd prefer everything matching. I just checked the retailer I plan to use and their quad core i7 like you describe works out at $405, still really pricey for a processor.

I'm on a tight budget and can't afford to go over it once

    CHEERS!

...that's for a 3.4gHz Hexacore i7 (12 processing threads). Apologies for the "sticker shock"

If you are using an ATI GPU, yes you are better off with an AMD CPU (hard to get ATI and Intel in the same box these days).

I also need to remember about things like import taxes and other fees that boost the price of computer hardware and software outside of the States.

Here a 3.4 gHz Quad core i7 retails for 299USD. The one in my system (2.8gHz) I think cost 259USD when I first purchased it but it is now considered "legacy" hardware and no longer available (bleedn' tech curve moves way too fast) .

One good thing, Memory prices have dropped, You could probably get into a 16GB kit for half of what I paid for the memory sticks I have in my system (back then, 12GB cost me 349USD).

Funnily enough, this laptop has an Intel i5 and its own integrated card, but, there is also an AMD Radeon in there and the two seem to get on. I nearly decided to get everything from the one retailer, but, things started not to add up. They only seemed to stock older versions of the motherboard I wanted (the BIOS wouldn't have supported the processor I want) and then I couldn't find the model of graphics card they were listing anywhere else, even the company website didn't show it! So, I ditched them and reassembled my shopping list from eBay stores. One thing amused me and that's that I can get the processor from Hong Kong with free shipping for the same price I can get it over here with free postage! The graphics card I now want is quite a bit dearer than I was planning, but not too much. Most of what I'm getting now will be by Asus, including the monitor, even though it has Philips on the front. Things might get tight for a while, but, I'll get there....

We don't but I did see them, too pricey with shipping. All the components I've found have free postage.

There is a store called Maplin over here and I thought they were cheap, but I know different now. They had the 1gb version of the graphics card I want for £140, I can get the 2gb version for £94!

There's an interesting article in this month's 3D World about building your own system, or rather building your own system if the companies concerned give you the bits for free! About the only components they listed that I could afford were the memory and the graphics card! The guy did make a schoolboy error though, he put an EATX motherboard in a case designed for an ATX. LOL, he wondered why he didn't have access to all his SATA sockets! At least I won't make that mistake.

I'm going to bug the heck out of the sellers and get all the info I can before I spend a penny

No, if it's G2F then it's G2F, you didn't dial in any V4!? Sometimes the armpits on the female figures can look a little high, V4 was the worst for it, but there were fixes. Maybe it depends on the body you dial.

Wow, $349 is a lot of money. I can't afford $100 for 8 GB of PC-1333/1066 memory for the new computer. At least the computer will be free. I'll need to find a job before I upgrade the dual-core computer.

I have decided to stick with my current set up. I went to stores and even the gaming ASUS and Alienware notebooks still spew out warm air which my beast never does. Laws of physics I guess.

My old 250 watt power supply blew warm air when I played some old games and rendered 3D scenes. Oh, you're talking about laptops. My dad's 900 MHz celeron gets hot. I think the temperature of the CPU reaches 50 degrees C... I forgot the exact temperature. It blows warm air out. Even my old 800 MHz desktop computer never got that hot even when I was playing with Pov-ray or old games for Windows 9X.

... an EATX MB in a ATX case? Crikey and I thought I was "techie challenged". ;-)

That is why I took the time to learn how this stuff all worked and went together before purchasing the parts. I created spreadsheets for different configurations to find what was the most cost effective system that would deliver what I wanted.

Yeah, you have to watch for special sales and closeouts. That's how I ended up purchasing a part here, a part there until I had everything I needed.

...that was a couple years ago. Memory prices have dropped significantly since. I can now get pretty much the same 12GB kit (6 x 2GB) for about 125 - 130$ today. A 24GB (6 x 4GB) kit today costs about 60 - 70$ less than what I paid for my 12G one.

Indeed queue rendering is your friend... The &^% up part is as you guys see I do go back to 3DL for the odd render but im kinda lost using it for the most part...

...I wish Daz had the same. PoserPro has the queue manager and can also run renders in background mode.

There is a utility for batch/background rendering out for Daz Studio but it is only useful if you have the standalone 3Delight.

I also find lighting better to work with with UE the light seems to "grip to the skin" in many cases. Some ppl including Roger have said my lighting is dark at times. I watch aaaa lotttt of TV (too much for my own good LOL) and i notice alot of somber lighting over bright..

I have given a try to Jayden. Below is DS 4.6 Pro render of him with Brit hair.
I have played a little with different shaping morphs on him, as well.

I also have to watch for listings ending and being relisted, that's already happened with a few components. It annoyed me that several companies want me to ring them for info. Not if you're not in the UK I won't, it's not my phone or phone bill! I had an online chat to a girl at Microsoft that was helpful. I thought I could get Windows 7 Pro OEM and then use the upgrade I already have, but, it turns out I can't, so I'm just going to go with Windows 8.1 Pro OEM as I know that most of the component I want do have drivers for that OS.

I'm pretty confident that I can pull this build off provided I follow all the manuals.
