THANK YOU! It was driving me nuts wondering who I was thinking of that she really reminded me of - Mackenzie Davis was it! (not an exact likeness but in that zone)

That was my first thought as well; but I think it's mostly the packaging, especially the main promo picture.

Catching up on the thread and wow! Fantastic renders and conversation. @Saba Taru, absolutely glamorous. @L'Adair I love the first pose, but the head shots, mixing the other characters with Michaela is fascinating.

i'd love to know what michaela looks like on the G8F base.  redzstudio's characters are always amazing.  :)

    anyone tried that?

    @jardine, Here ya' go.

Open each head shot in a new tab if you want to quickly compare the differences. In a column here the differences appear to be very minor, but cycling through the images in browser tabs shows just how different they really are.

thank you, L'Adair.  very much!  :)

    she looks great sans CJ.

cycling through those headshots really does make those variations superclear.  i'm kind of astonished that i couldn't recognize the differences between them when i was just scrolling through your post.  live and learn...

    thanks again,

Just got the opportunity to try her out, and I'm very pleased. Her skin is on the level of Tasha 8 (which is great, with Kala, Babina, and Zelara being the greatest).

Picked up CJ and her HD Add-on with the weekend coupon sale.  I kinda liked the Pro Bundle, but the rest of the offer just wasn't doing it for me enough to pull the trigger on a 70+ USD price tag, especially with the Add Ons such slim pickings.  Oh, well, I figured I'd get some use out of CJ's normals and HD-add on at least, to add some muscle to existing characters.  But, ended up playing around wtih her as is anyway.

And yeah, nice to see a shorter character... :)

"You'd better be right about my Instagram follower count skyrocketing after a few cosplay shoots, or this sword might see some real use!"

100% CJ with Normals and HD turned on and AprilYSH's FLO makeup.  As an experiment, I set her Translucency to solid black and tried to up the percentage, to see if I could get a more tanned look to her skin.  Results were meh on CJ's skin, but worked a bit nicer on an Emrys character later.  Still, the detail on the skin is nice, and strangely visible mostly on the thighs.  It might be the FLO makeup fiddling with her face or the slightly lower camera angle, but the legs seem to have more skin detail than any other part of her body.  Don't know what else to say, though.  Kind of a nice substitute for Rune. just not really feeling the bundle deals this time around.

@memcneil70, Thank you. I liked that pose because it really shows the definition of her legs, even without CJ8.

I think she's great with just G8F, though I expect I'll pick up CJ8 in the future, maybe as a freebie somewhere down the line. I don't dislike CJ, but only Michaela and the Double Dutch Braids really interested me from the Pro bundle.

(She uses 50% of the CJ8 head morph. Maybe that would reduce the bags under her eyes. She also uses 70% of CJ8's body morph, if I've read the dsf files correctly.)

Somewhat OT, but how do you find out how many % of a base character an add-on character uses without having the base character?

Got the bundle because I liked the hairs and clothing.  Wasn't able to use the hair in this one cause it was crashing my computer (but I think I got it figured out)

You would need to open the morph asset for the master slider in a text editor, and check the values it sets for the corresponding morph.

I have never seen a human with hair that starts millimetres above the ear. But there are several such hairstyles in the Daz store, and, invariably, they lack an ear height morph. I wonder what that's about?

TRUST when I say as a hairdresser that always upsets my sense of cutting style.  If a client ever walked out of my salon like that they would never come back! LOL

In older hair models many of the published artists would provide a lower / raise dial for around this area.  Not sure why today's published artists are leaving that out of the adjustements sub category for the hair.  It's an important adjustment feature!

  • The character is interesting.. albiet a bit too late in light of a large stable of buff girls already made for G8F. Overall from the contents of the bundles to the promo pics themselves, the whole release just screams a lack of direction. The first image we get of CJ looks eerily similar to Eva 8, and from there it just goes in every direction like the symbol of chaos undivided. Nobody who worked on this release seems to have any idea who wants to actually buy this girl. This is compounded by the already mention at nauseum fact that CJ 8 ships with no real meaningful content. A cocktail dress and a trio of casual outfits and a pair of hairs(one of which is defective) that could have been shipped with Robyn8, Jenni8, Liesa8, Babina8, Bridget8, Penny8, Charlotte8, and Stephanie8 and would have been right at home. This is contrasted by the pose creators who apparently didn't get the memo about all this casualness and instead cranked out pose sets with "empowered" and lots of running, rolling, shooting.. Maybe RockyShoo is supposed to be an action outfit-Wait, no, no action poses, just casual walking.. in fact, that's not even CJ wearing it. Ophelia7, mentioned here a few times, shipped with two functioning hairstyles that didn't start halfway up the cranium, 3 adventure themed outfits and a business causal (all of which show Ophelia wearing them), along with a pair complimenting pose sets. Whoever shipped Ophilia7 knew what they were doing, whereas CJ shows a good deal of conflict in product direction. So I included a comparison of the promo images of both, so everyone can see them side by side.

Just one other thing I want to mention here is that I saw Oso3d's render, and I noted that none of the promo pics for CJ 8 included a long volume style hair that Oso used. Probably should have had a few shots of CJ with that instead of the short cut obsession that played out.

@designerwarren_2e7ff70f4d, There are very few Pro Bundles I will never buy, and have even passed on when I could have gotten them for free. At the top of the list are the two Named 7 bundles for demonic base figures, followed closely by Olympia 8 and Stephanie 8. In most cases, it's because of clothing I just don't want and will never use, (though with the 7 bundles, it was the figure and characters I did not want in my runtime!) There is even one male pro bundle I bought with an outfit I couldn't stand, so I hid it in DIM and never downloaded it.

But that is all personal preference. I see renders in the galleries all the time using clothing I'd not give a plugged nickle for. (And some of those renders are positively amazing!) I'll bet if Daz were to let us in on the sales numbers for bundles I didn't want, or that you didn't want, we'd be surprised at how well they actually sold. (Daz won't, of course.) Anyway, there is a lot of truth in the saying, "one man's garbage is another man's treasure," and regardless of the generation, you can expect that some of the bundles will leave you cold, while others will go in the cart instantly. I'm pretty sure if you and I compare notes, we'll find our "must-haves" and "no-ways" will vary considerably.

My wallet and I actually appreciate that not all the named figures and their bundles meet my needs. It's good to have a breather from time to time, and when the new figure doesn't appeal to me, I spend less time shopping and more time rendering… And I really, really need to spend less time shopping and more time rendering.

  • If anyone who has CJ 8 has Girl 8 or Cartoonized, could you please, if you have a free moment, dial in either one to about 35% and post it? Thank you!

I agree that the packaging of CJ makes no sense, but it's worth remembering that it's really all just window dressing. We can do whatever we want with her and the various items and poses.

..I'm the opposite, I actually picked up Edie because I liked all the clothing, hairs and characters included. The last Pro bundle I was actually interested in and purchased was YT5 Julie and Justin for the original Genesis.  I do have acquired a few others since, but only because they were either offered for free, had a coupon that offered an extremely deep discount, or as in the case of Carrara 8.1, came bundled with the software (MIke and Vicky 5).

Is famine a play on words?  LOL

ChevyBabys amazing Double-Dutch makes her look much more feminine.  Hair choice can do that.  cheeky

Your render reminds me of a certain some-one from Mass Effect Andromeda.  Any intent there? lol

It was https://www.daz3d.com/itsy-hair-for-genesis-8-and-genesis-3-females which I find to be a great hair to work with.

I was working yesterday with CJ 8 HD and she had an interesting, older face. Not a young model, but a woman of wisdom and with life experience.
