I wouldn't want to be on the lower deck when it started to rise indepently of the upper, that seems an unduly draconian approach to slimming.

...it's pretty ingenious engineering considering the bridge was built in 1912.  The lower deck supports telescope into the upper deck ones.   It usually doesn't meet flush up with the upper deck as it is only raised about halfway for most river traffic  The only time both decks are raised is for the Rose Festival when we have Naval ships come in and tie up at the waterfront for the weekend or the occasional cruise ship..

That said, the railway line on the lower deck has signals that warn trains well in advance (and trains proceed at an extremely slow speed in this stretch) while the pedestrian/bikeway that was added to it has gates which close it off well before the deck begins to lift   There is also a live bridge operator at all times and vid cameras on the lower deck, to make sure it is clear before raising.

Apparently trains run on the lower bridge, and the lower level locks into the upper level when raised, so they must be unflateable trains

...I used to love  that show.

I remember it was set in the "future year" of 1968 (the show first aired in 1966).  The show was aired on friday evenings which was usually considered a dead slot and when moved to the 7:30 PM (eastern time) slot in the summer of 1967, it fared much better than the shows it was up against on the other two networks (Tarzan and Wild Wild West).  The show was cancelled due not to unpopularity (it was renewed for the 1967 - 68 season) but the departure of ABC's head Tom Moore and his replacement cancelling all shows that started under him. it was replaced by The Legend of Custer, which was a total dud, being panned by critics and lasted only 17 episodes before being cancelled.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I opted to join CBS-All-Access, I too was in the middle of Mission Impossible series, as well as Perry Mason. frown  But to afford it I had to drop Britbox which now expires Feb 20th so I'm in a rush to finish the series I've gotten interested there before they go bye-bye.

Interesting note about Perry Mason,  they're all in black & white except for one episode in the 9th season.  But as soon as I had full access to CBS-All-Access I went and checked out the Perry Mason listings and they don't include any of the 9th season. sad  Must be they either sold that season to someone else or have leased it to another service temporarily.  I know that I HAVE seen the color episode some years ago back when I had DISH-TV satellite service.

Another interesting note about Perry Mason.  I saw an interview with Raymond Burr with I think Johnny Carson where Burr mentioned that Perry had actually lost (or not actually won) three cases in the series, to counter Johnny Carson's comment that Perry had never lost a case.

I thought Perry had only lost one case.  Hmmm...   The season we were in, the DA was not in a lot of the shows at all.  I know the actor died years ago, but I thought he was with the show to the end.  good old Hamilton Burger, or, as I call him, Hamburger!  Seems to me that had to be on purpose!

There are also the numerous TV movies that they made some time after the series ended.

There was a bridge when I was young that crossed the Taunton River between Fall River and Somerset, MA.  It was very low to the water, cars would cross on the lower level, wooden boards would clank as you drove over.  Above was the train track...an electric train used it.  That bridge was a pivot bridge.  My grandma hated going over that bridge!  All bridges, really.  The bridge was destroyed when I was still young.

I read somewhere that the guy who played Mr. Burger had gotten in legal trouble for (I think) smoking pot at a party that got raided or something like that.surprise  But my memory has proven faulty recently.

Here:  Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton_Burger  2nd paragraph of section "Television Portrayal".

"The character of Hamilton Burger temporarily disappeared from the TV series during the series' third season. Talman was fired by CBS March 18, 1960, hours after he entered a not-guilty plea to misdemeanor charges related to his presence at a party that was raided by police.[10][11] The schedule was immediately juggled to minimize Talman's presence on the show. "The Case of the Crying Cherub" (episode 3-20) debuts a pared-down title sequence that omits Talman; he is credited only in the four episodes he filmed before he was fired. Talman was defended by the show's executive producer Gail Patrick Jackson,[12] Raymond Burr[13] and others, but even dismissal of the charges in June[14] did not soften the network's position.[15] Patrick said that the role of Burger would not be recast, but that various actors would play assistant district attorneys.[16] CBS reinstated Talman only after Gardner himself spoke out, together with millions of viewers.[17][18]:71 Talman went back to work in December 1960,[19] and Burger returned in "The Case of the Fickle Fortune" (episode 4-15)."

Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, red onion and Brussel sprouts. I don't like celery, it overpowers all the other flavours, IMO.

I use a slow cooker,   I have one that is a one or two peoples size and keep frozen chicken portions in the freezer so make one or two helpings at a time.   ANd yes,  mine has celery,  must have celery.   BTW celery seed added to food is good for helping with the BP. "As a natural diuretic, celery seeds may benefit patients with high blood pressure by speeding up salt excretion."

  • Woke up to 10F here this morning.  Brrrr...  Haven't ventured out to grocery or post office in a week.  They're going to wonder if I'm still around.  I should have gone when the weather was good but aches & pains kept me in.

I'm not crazy about celery, either.  I used to like it fresh with cream cheese.  It is a good diet food, for those who look for those.  I once read that you use more calories chewing it that it contains!   laugh

Pumpkin might be a fall scent for body wash but if it is 75% off with 20% off coupon and a free 5 dollar bath and body works gift card, it is a very good idea.  I needed body wash. I found an iOS app which is in the App Store that promises if I use it to try new games it will give me gift cards and stuff.  I chose two bath and body works gift cards but only one arrived so far.

Most games they suggest are fun but some are either stupid or confusing or maybe both.

I was low on body wash so now I have enough body wash until some more money comes in.

Actually I got two body washes but traded one for a chicken.  The chicken is hiding under the cheese in one of the pictures.

cheesie chicken and pumpkin.  good smells.

i have to do something with the fresh ginger before it goes bad.

cant remember what the chicken with white gravy is  called.  it's not au gratin.  mat be some kind of shroom sauce.  suzann dianne.  cordon  blue,  francesca, frickasee

    ...robbery I tell ya.

Was at the Safeway yesterday and saw that with two reward credits I could get a free one and a half quart (used to be a half gallon) container of ice creme.  So I checked my rewards balance and It indicated I had one reward credit available, and needed only 6 points to go for a second one (my purchases yesterday gave me more than enough points) .  So this morning, after going though the new online "Just for U" offerings for the week, I checked my rewards balance again only to find I just had one reward credit instead of the two I expected to see, with 93 points to go for the next one.  As it's still January, I wonder what happened to that other credit I had as it shouldn't have expired until after the end of the month.  A single reward point is pretty much useless as the items available are things I have no need for, don't want, or can't use (like a dozen eggs).
