Non-complaint:  Wheee... Ay, admiral.  Thar be IRays here.  New graphics card has arrived.  Not a killer card, (but best I could afford/justify).  Much better than I've ever had before and it does IRay renderings many times faster than without it.smiley  It of course got installed into my new i5-8600, 32GB, DAZzing machine to replace the standard on-board graphics.  I haven't tested everything out yet, but so far it seems to be working and doesn't get very hot, even in my reused HP, crowded little case packed with new & better organs.  I don't do a lot of IRay stuff and don't have many IRay materials but not having a tolerable way to render IRay was leaving me behind in the dust.  Now, I'm on the watch for a good deal on a 1TB NVMe SSD to speed up mass storage.

New graphics card:  MSI GeForce 1660, 6GB, OCyes

..congratulations.  Felt the same way when I fired up that Titan X the first time. As long as you are not into epic scenes like I am, 6 GB should be pretty sufficient.

could spend time learning new words smiley

new words for today, geosynchronous, geostationary

Heh  We had an English teacher at school , back in the day, who would sit down to his breakfast and read a dictionary to find a new word for the day.  He would then add the new word into his lectures and we had to spot the new word, then find out what it meant.   Was a great way of getting a good vocabulary.

I had a high school Chemistry teacher who played the Tom Lehrer song "The Elements" for us. She told us to listen very carefully, because he pronounced them all correctly. It's the names of all the chemical elements, in order,  sung to the tune of "A Very Modern Major General."laugh

...I have two old 10" Tom Lehrer LPS.  The Elementis on the second one.  Also have a copy the Too Many Songs by Tom Lehrer... With Not Enough Drawings by Ronald Searle. Some of his songs have become somewhat timely again.

Spreadsheets are cool.  But it makes my skin crawl when somebody calls their spreadsheet a "database". Grrrr!  sad

I agree!  There is quite a difference.  I also take claims of MS Access being a database with a shaker full of salt.

Well at least with tables, columns, rows, datatypes, and a way to query and update the contents, Access DOES meet the bare-minimum definition of being an actual database.

what the difference between roast beef and pot roast?

what turns it into yankee pot roast?

If I remember correctly  roast beef is slow cooked by itself ,pot roast is slow cooked with veggies in liquid ,like in a crockpot ,and yankee pot roast is pot roast and veggies in one of those oven bags with little to no liquid .

Roast beef is roasted , not slow roasted.  Good roast beef is still pink in the middle when carved,  Generally roast beef is cooked at a high temperature to caramelise the outside, then the temperature is turned down.  heat the oven to 240C/220C fan/gas 9. roast for 20 mins before turning down to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and cooking for 1 hours 40 mins. Remove and rest for at least an hour.

  • A "pot roast", sometimes called "chuck roast" is usually made from the chuck roast/front part of the cow.  It's cheaper, not so lean meat, and is lighter on the budget for large families.  You can use a crock pot/slow cooker, roasting pot, or dutch oven, although it's not necessarily "slow cooked".  You can cook it with any inexpensive starch+vegetables such as potatoes and carrots.  I think I cook mine at 350 for 90 minutes.  I like using a 7-quart dutch oven and a 5+ pound cut of meat because I can braise the meat by itself in the dutch oven right on the stovetop, then add the vegetables and move the dutch oven straight to the oven for 90 minutes.

Since I use a dutch oven that has some exposed cast iron, I do not use any tomatoes or acidic veggies in my recipe.  But if I wanted to, I suppose I'd cook it in my slow-cooker or Ninja Foodie on high for an hour and then on low for at least an hour/check internal temp before shutting off the heat.

Growing up, my mom made pot roast only once in awhile, so it doesn't really give me that nostalgic feeling.  But for sure, when you have a good pot roast, carrots, onions, garlic, and potatoes cooking in the oven, the house has never smelled or felt better or more like "home".  And then with that big chunk of meat I can eat for days!  When the veggies run out (they always run out first), then I just make sandwiches with the remaining meat.  Yum!

After several years of waiting for a new limousine, I finally broke down and bought the 2007 AM Limo last week, and of course today Polish releases the Luxury Limousine Bundle. You're welcome, everybody. It happens every time I buy something.

Actually, they're not in order, but it works. And it ended with:

"These are the only ones of which word has come to Haaavard,

There may be many others, but they haven't been discaaavered."

I have a copy of "An evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer" which was live.

...well the forecast changed slightly to a rain/frozen water mix with highs in the mid to upper 30s.  Still, not wanting to err on the overconfident so big market trip tomorrow .

Hmm, tornadoes, in January.  As long as they don't occur over shark infested waters we should be OK

...I would think it wouldn't be an issue in places like London or Seattle (though Orlando...?).  However with how crazy the weather has become (there was a tornado last year in Phoenix AZ and a few years ago one hit downtown Salt Lake City, we even had a couple near Portland recently) I guess anything's possible.

We did have a tornade touch down in London a few years back, before We moved up and over to Wales.  touched down North of us,  but the weather front passed through.   Our silver birch trees bent over and were touching the wall the sky went black and it was raining horizontally  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_London_tornado   I am glad that the London eye was not on the sqall line as it passed across the country
