feel devastated by the news of Neil Peart passing.

saw my first rush concert 40 years ago.

  • I've seen several tornados in Florida.  Mostly over water though.  But during hurricanes, a tornado or two come along for the ride.  We figure that that was what brought the tree down on my aunt's living room roof after examining the whirled damage in a long wide path up from the park behind her house.

  • Complaint:  Arghhhh... I hate Microsoft Network Sharing.   Today I turned on three machines, my two principle machines and my laptop.  The two principle machines are on wired LAN, the laptop is on WiFi.  Sharing is all boogered up again.  Ghaaaaaa.

I have deliberately not touched any network settings or connections, just turned the machines on in the morning and off in the evening.  Unstable piece of s***.  angry

...well the forecast changed slightly to a rain/frozen water mix with highs in the mid to upper 30s.  Still, not wanting to err on the overconfident so big market trip tomorrow .

Hmm, tornadoes, in January.  As long as they don't occur over shark infested waters we should be OK

tornadoes scare me.  are those sky high ferris wheels tornado proof  and sharknado tooth proof?

...I would think it wouldn't be an issue in places like London or Seattle (though Orlando...?).  However with how crazy the weather has become (there was a tornado last year in Phoenix AZ and a few years ago one hit downtown Salt Lake City, we even had a couple near Portland recently) I guess anything's possible.

Last year there were two tornadoes in one day, on Cape Cod!!!  One of them tore the roof off of a hotel...while people were in there!  I don't think anyplace is safe from the crazy weather we've had in the past few years!

Today is January 12th, middle of winter, in the snow belt, near Buffalo, there is no snow and there hasn't been for a couple days!surprise  Yesterday the temperature was over 60F, furnace didn't run, I had to throw off all blankets, and turn on the fan in my bedroom to get comfortable to sleep.  Waiting to see what February brings.  May need to buy another airconditioner for next summer.

No snow yet here.  Saw a few huge flakes mixed in with the rain briefly.   Sounds like a lot of snow up on the mountain, the ski slopes had windows up to 85mph and multiple avalanches according to the news.

Complaint:  went for a walk along the trail in the woods and it seems as though somebody wandered through the woods onto my property and cut down and made off with a single 1" diameter tree using a knife or a hatchet for no apparent reason.  After the attempted (but aborted) break-in at my bedroom window last year, this is not helping.

After several years of waiting for a new limousine, I finally broke down and bought the 2007 AM Limo last week, and of course today Polish releases the Luxury Limousine Bundle. You're welcome, everybody. It happens every time I buy something.

Are you the guy who washes his car to make it rain?

That's me!  But my car is over a decade old, so I don't wash it anymore.  We still get rain.

...I remember we used to have these.

Used those on boy scout camping weekends and when delivering papers in January.  They take lighter fluid and yep, you slipped it into a little cloth baggie (to keep from burning your hands) and then into your pocket.  Us guys who had paper routes had TWO; one for each pocket.  One of the benefits of being entrepreneurial at an early age...wink

...yeah had two of them as well, which came handy in winter for the paper route, particularly on Sundays when we had to be up a 05:00 as the Sunday edition was a morning delivery. Back then we got no rides and had to do the route all on foot. Brutal in winter as it was still dark and very cold when we finished the route.  Afterwards we had to get all washed and dressed up for church (often nodding off during the sermon because we were so tired).

Complaint:  Resignation:  (*sigh*) I still hate Microsoft Network Sharing but I'm not going to worry about it anymore.  On those days when it feels like behaving, I'll use it to transfer data from one machine to another.  On those days when it flips its wig, drops the ball, and craps all over the place I'll just use a thumbdrive like nature intended.indecision

Non-complaint:  I'm so f'n glad I don't have to deal with Microsoft networking professionally anymore.  I'll leave it to the young people who don't know anything better.cheeky

...that's why I left Wisconsin 40 years ago.

We'd often get very similar temperature swings, particularly along Lake Michigan where the temperature would drop 20° - 25° in the span of ten minutes or so if the wind changed and came off the lake (usually also accompanied by thick fog).  Bad when it's near 80° and and you are in summer clothes, then in the time it took to walk a couple blocks or wait for a bus, it had dropped into the mid 50s

I'll never forget the year I moved to New Orleans and returned to Madison to get the rest of my stuff.  The choir director at the campus chapel I played organ at mentioned that one day in early April it was sunny and 75° when she went to lunch and less than three hours later she looked out the window and it was snowing heavily. The city ended up getting about 5" -  6" of snow..

    [Sport]

...well surprisingly, Green Bay advances to the NFC championship.  After a regular season where at times he looked pretty sad Aaron Rodgers looked like the top rated quarterback he used to be with extremely accurate passing including a couple long plays for touchdowns. They were ahead 28 - 3 before the defence apparently seemed to wither  and let Seattle get within a single touchdown by the 4th quarter.  Almost thought it would have been a carbon copy of the Texas Kansas City Game earlier where, it looked  as if the Chiefs looked as if they would lose being down 24 - 0 in the first quarter only to make one of the biggest comebacks ever scoring 41 unanswered points to eventually beat the Texans 51 - 3.

So a really tough bill next week having to play San Francisco which dominated the Vikings.  Green Bay better have their A++ game as they suffered their most humiliating loss during the regular the season to the 49rsm. 37 - 8.

Being that this is the 100th anniversary of the NFL I'd like to see them make it to Super Bowl as likely their opponent would be Kansas City which would be a fitting rematch of Super Bowl #1 (then known as the first AFL - NFL Championship) held 54 years ago.

dunno why sounds so hilarious.  must be low sugar level.

  • Non-complaint:  Measured performance of my new computer + new graphics card.  Rendered an IRay scene on my old computer without IRay capable graphics card. 14 minutes, 13 secondssad

Rendered the exact same scene on my new computer with new graphics card (GeForce 1660).  29 seconds. surpriseyessmiley

Question:  where is the standard DAZ test scene that I've heard reference to?  I'd like to give it a go.
