Well, I was determined to try to make her look decent without changing her morphs. I did add on different eyelashes and changed her lipstick a bit. I found that, in general, most expessions looked really bad on her. Usually I don't use a caharacter "out of the box" anyway but I wanted to take on the challenge. Finally got something I was pretty happy with but from now on will only mix her morphs with others. And the brown eyes were the only ones that looked OK...

I really like her this is the first teen I have bought since getting back into the 3D scene.  I also liked several of her products so I ended up getting a good deal by the time it was all said and done.  Although my wallet was not happy!

That being said she does not look teen to me, more like young adult maybe.  Still love her though!

Did a side by side of her (right) and G8F (left) with the same basic skin included with Raven. I do not really care for the Kitten Dress because far as I can tell the top part does not simulate (could be the user) thus the gaps with the straps on the chest area.

A lot of good work in this one, many appealing figures, more add-ons that I want to buy than I need to qualify for the bonus... So much good stuff. A new backpack with the skater girl set! A good looking Sci Fi bodysuit. A nice new fantasy armor in the add ons. Many pretty faces.  So much good in this release.

And most importantly, she's well discounted and comes with a lot of free stuff. EVERYONE can get the pro bundle at the lower end of Daz addict price. (Our banner is extra free stuff this time.)

Non-aesthetic criticism aside, this is a superb release from Daz. A perfect release to capture new Daz customers, I think. Priced right and a lot of free stuff.

Old customers? Same criticisms, barely touching aesthetics of the figure or the bundle components.

I just have sooooooooooooo many females already that it's hard to get excited about yet one more. G8F already takes forever to load....

It's tough to keep one's enthusiasm for more of the same. I've got oodles of females, and they are all starting to look alike. So, it's not like we are complaining to complain. Some of us are just burned out over the females ;)

And FWIW, I don't think she looks like a teen either. I think Teen Jane was closer in that regard. But then I don't have Jane either (for the same reasons).

    Laurie

I should prune my list of installed figures... Good idea. I know which artists I like the most, so dropping a few in each generation  that don't fit my interests is probably a good thing...  you just never know when a figure you put on the shelf has that one feature you really need for the idea in your head :-D

I just like having the Daz bases. The diffuse overlay makeup in a lot of the female bases just aren't done with a lot of artists, so having the options are really helpful. (I'm installing Destiny 2 (on Steam) otherwise I'd have run through the Raven install to see what I got.)

Raven, with what's on sale with her, was an easy decision to buy, for my part.

But... It's been a long run of good and diverse releases. If some don't want this one, I get it, but it's the kind of release that prints money for Daz.

I DID. LOL....I guess I like too many artists. I'm also a "mixer"...I rarely ever use a character as is and am forever mixing. I like there to be an assortment for me to pull from. Even I however know when to say when and "when" came and went quite awhile ago.

Teen Raven ? Teen Titans Raven ???

See, that was my thought too, though I grew up with her classic look rather than her current 'Rachel Roth'. This character could definitely be worked into a good Titans Raven

Regardless of what the character looks like, one advantage of designating her as a teen is there less skimpwear in the bundles.

This is very true. That would be my main reason for buying Teen bundles... Because seemingly anything outside of "teen" is hyper sexualized. Chainmail Thongs and and Blouses so low and slutty that if they were any more revealing the nipples would slip out with a light breeze. I am thankful everyday for 3D Universe. I buy 3DU products like a religion. hehe

The trims and dress body likely have different dynamic strength settings.  Usually trims are set lower to avoid excessive stretching, and these might be a little too low.  That said, the front kind of looks like an apron bib.  It's not my favourite part of the bundle.

I think people are forgetting that 18 and 19 is still teen. 18 and 19 year olds have died in wars to be considered an adult and given the right to vote in the US. So calling someone a "teen" should not automatically disqualify them as an adult, it is discrimination to do so. Plus Belle 6 did not have teen her name but she had anatomical elements, and Raven looks older than Belle who could be the real 18 year old. Raven looks more like a college (university) student in her early 20s. I don't recall anybody complaining about Belle having that texture.

The add on characters look more like teens, but that doesn't effect the base character.

I get what you are saying, but I think "discrimination" is a bit of an over statement. Considering adult age is 18. In technicality they are still teenagers, but they are also adults. Young Adults would be the proper word to descibe them.

I don't think most adult websites would agree with statement, just saying.

Not sure what you're getting at.

I kind of think you do...If you happen to wonder into the wrong places on the internet thanks to poorly worded searches with safe search disabled, you will never see such people categorized as "young adult". It is always "teen". And lots of them. Teens everywhere, all legal, and specifically marketed as teens. "Young Adult" is something you might see as a category in a book store, its nothing more than marketing.

Its funny (or depressing depending on your point of view) the places you might wonder into looking for Daz things. Daz is clearly very popular for certain, um, things, which a number of people in this thread are quite well acquainted with. I'm not judging! You guys do what you do, it doesn't bother me.

Anyway, Daz has had characters that specifically say "Young Teen" in their name, which make it much more clear. But never have they had anything that says older teen, nor has Daz ever had a character called "Young Adult ___". Actually I am kind of curious as to why that is? Why do we need to label them but not others? Like why not "Old Man Woo"? Which actually, would be kind of awesome, LOL.

I wouldn't have much issue except for Raven looking nothing like a teen. Yes, I get it, real people can totally look different from their age, but this is 3D art here, and if anything Daz usually plays it by the common stereotype. So as a result it is logical to expect that stereotypical "teen" when they use "teen" in the name. You got people here saying they wouldn't even card her, LOL. If Daz had simply called this release "Raven 8" would anybody have brought it up? I really doubt it. There might have been some arguments about age, but they would have been very different this. Maybe the add on characters look more like typical teens, but they have no relevance to whether the base character itself is teen or not, we got a grown up model based on the toddler 8 in this store. Big Boss, I believe it was, nobody is saying Big Boss is a little kid because he is based on a toddler morph, nor is anybody screaming for Metal Gear in a raspy voice. Funny enough, Raven was a big bad dude in Metal Gear Solid, sporting a huge chain gun.

And I think its very funny that Raven isn't even in the banner on the store page. The actual teen looking characters are. I don't think this has ever happened before. Maybe they thought Summer was going to be the official model, or that Summer was Raven....since you know, Summer looks like the actual teen here, LOL. Whatever the reason is, its not a good look, Daz. It makes it look like you lack confidence in your own model. You really need to change that.

That would be like CBS using a totally different character in its promo poster for "Picard". Just picture it: "Patrick Stewart, Picard." with a picture of Wesley Crusher. Yeah...that doesn't make much sense.

I dont see why they try to pass her off as a teen Character. Good character yes, but hardly a teenager. Speaking of Teenagers. I'm making one now right as I am reading this thread. Far from done, but shes looking decent so far... I'm aware some of her proportions are off. I'm still making her.

Now that looks without a doubt like a teen.

Agree.  Great teen character in the making @angel_wings

    When to say "when"...

I'm reminded of a scene from the Battlestar Galactica reboot, when Admiral Cain asks if Starbuck drinks alcohol.

Starbuck's answer: "Only to excess." ;-)

Did we need a Summer minus Raven image?

Did we need a Summer (minus Raven) image?

Summer is made with 100 % percent Raven's head dialed in, not 50%- because I love Raven's head shape. :)

It seems a lot of discussion around her is more or less about terminology?

In response to the "at least she doesn't have 'slutty' clothes, I try not to use that term because it carries the connotation that revealing clothing is somehow bad and that people who wear such are bad- and I can't wait for the day when people aren't judged for the curves of their body and the clothes (or lack of) that they can choose to comfortably wear or not wear. Growing up I had to wear skirts and dresses because "proper" girls did so and only 'bad girls' wore pants and makeup. Ug. Of course, my last job REQUIRED makeup for ladies.... times change. do they ever. LOL.

Anyway, regardless of the "teen" terminology or not, I do think she looks younger, shape wise, than say, Victoria or Eva or a lot of others. I think names are simply inspirational, like "this is what she COULD be per our vision while making her."  A starting point. And if she looks 40 to some of you... well, I'm just going to say that if I look that bright-eyed and cute and a bit punky when I hit my 40s (nearer than I'd like!) I will be absolutely THRILLED.  :P Bring on the age-defying Daz character dials, stat! I need some elixer of youth. I could use a good bit of Raven dialed in... (don't I wish!!!!)

The most accurate "teen related" G8F product I've seen recently was this makeup and shader pack by Hinkypunk. https://www.daz3d.com/make-me-teen-for-genesis-8-females However, it's kinda dated because these are for early to mid 2000s teens, meaning Gen Y/Millennials, not Gen Z.

I was curious about 0% Raven and 100% Sunny, because I don't want to buy the Raven figure base. It doesn't appeal to me at all, and I don't want miss out on Sunny because of it.
Sunny at 0% is a slightly more youthful character and enhances Raven that's a given. The plus for Sunny: she has great skin, makeup and nails plus a no makeup option. Even though I can try to spin a few dials with base G8F, it won't be Sunny, but she's still a great character.

I like the outfits, and the hair is decent, but don't really NEED another female character (of any age). Will probably get the Pro Bundle for the clothing though.

I also wanted to say I was disappointed this thread wasn't titled "That's So Raven". laughcheeky

I'm just getting the 2 goth outfits and their textures, the kitten dress and its textures and the Sunny character.
Don't want/need anything else regardless of any lame discounts. Buy the pro bundle and 2 add-ons just to get $5.00 off on old stuff in those other categories?  Pass.  Not what I'd call an incentive. I don't buy gift cards either, so don't have that up my sleeve. Is what it is.
Plus just cuz they were in my wishlist, I'm also getting Odd Wear clothes (goth but 18 textures included!!) (just the clothes, not the character), and the dforce Kawaii overalls ( age appropriate for my tweens).

I'm aware that Clothing and Makeup make people look certain ages... That its in pose, and presentation. You can make someone look very mature or immature based on clothing, face expression, and the enviorment you have them in. Same actor as before in a different setting. This is why I make them appear to be younger then 15. Because by the time someone is done outfitting and posing a "teen" actor who is borderline 20... Due to how mature most of the hair and clothing and pose presets are. They look 30. But if they start out young looking, like.. actually young lookking, then by the time you make your typical render, they still look the part of a teen, even with makeup and a mature setting.

I’m having a big problem making expressions look good on her and even characters based on her. Her mouth is very different and if you try to make her smile or open her mouth at all, it becomes truly scary. The character Alinah who looks gorgeous with her mouth closed suddenly becomes horrific when you open the mouth! She has gaps between her teeth and not sure if this was on purpose or not. I fixed that with teeth morphs in parameters but I just couldn’t get a decent open mouth expression on her that doesn’t look really ugly or weird... It seems that any renders made with Raven will have to have her mouth closed!

ETA it might be the expressions making Alinah have a gap in her teeth because with the mouth only slightly open, the teeth look OK. This is definitely a character that’s weird to work with...

TIP: try this (I mentioned it in one of my previous Art Studio threads)  Go to the pose controls, Head, to Visemes, and unlock the parameters on the W and set it about -15 to -20. It seems to widen the mouth without puckering the corners or moving the depth, and gives it a relaxed look. Play with it and see what you think, it's one of the things I used on my Allinah.
