I like Summer a lot, she reminds me of Emma Stone or Jane Levy. But Raven herself leves me completely cold. She looks to me like she's had her lips done.

My initial impression that Raven looked more like a teen than Daz's other G8 "teens" was based on the promo images heavily featuring Summer and Dani (almost as if Daz lacked confidence in the base character). Now that I've had a closer look at Raven herself, I'll repeat what I said in the Teen Jane thread:

The problem is not that Raven could not be a teenager; the problem is that she doesn't READ as a teenager. She is not unmistakeably a teenager in the way that some other teen characters are, and that is what people find lacking in Daz's offerings, at least for the base characters.

A lot of good work in this one, many appealing figures, more add-ons that I want to buy than I need to qualify for the bonus... So much good stuff. A new backpack with the skater girl set! A good looking Sci Fi bodysuit. A nice new fantasy armor in the add ons. Many pretty faces.  So much good in this release.

And most importantly, she's well discounted and comes with a lot of free stuff. EVERYONE can get the pro bundle at the lower end of Daz addict price. (Our banner is extra free stuff this time.)

Non-aesthetic criticism aside, this is a superb release from Daz. A perfect release to capture new Daz customers, I think. Priced right and a lot of free stuff.

Old customers? Same criticisms, barely touching aesthetics of the figure or the bundle components.

I just have sooooooooooooo many females already that it's hard to get excited about yet one more. G8F already takes forever to load....

It's tough to keep one's enthusiasm for more of the same. I've got oodles of females, and they are all starting to look alike. So, it's not like we are complaining to complain. Some of us are just burned out over the females ;)

And FWIW, I don't think she looks like a teen either. I think Teen Jane was closer in that regard. But then I don't have Jane either (for the same reasons).

    Laurie

I should prune my list of installed figures... Good idea. I know which artists I like the most, so dropping a few in each generation  that don't fit my interests is probably a good thing...  you just never know when a figure you put on the shelf has that one feature you really need for the idea in your head :-D

I just like having the Daz bases. The diffuse overlay makeup in a lot of the female bases just aren't done with a lot of artists, so having the options are really helpful. (I'm installing Destiny 2 (on Steam) otherwise I'd have run through the Raven install to see what I got.)

Raven, with what's on sale with her, was an easy decision to buy, for my part.

But... It's been a long run of good and diverse releases. If some don't want this one, I get it, but it's the kind of release that prints money for Daz.

Oh, and if someone feels like putting up a render of Summer without Raven... *bats lashes*

I dont see why they try to pass her off as a teen Character. Good character yes, but hardly a teenager. Speaking of Teenagers. I'm making one now right as I am reading this thread. Far from done, but shes looking decent so far... I'm aware some of her proportions are off. I'm still making her.

She is super cute. Thinking she looks to be more of an early tween than a teen, but that's just my observation, no offense  Would she be able to be used with the Growing Up product to age her a couple years?.
The child version is darling as per your usual talent. I have your little Tiffany on my wishlist too. Just waiting for a good sale, LOL!!

Why do we have another female teen bundle?

I guess mid-20's is "teen" these days.

  • Greta for Raven 8 looks very teen-like. Personally, I think they overdid it with the hips, but I do like the head morph. Summer gives me some strong Emma Stone vibes.

Thanks Wonderland! I am newish at a lot of this and still bumbling around half the time. I'm glad you like her! :)  LIke I said before... and before i ever saw the materials Raven comes with... the shape Raven has is just really well done. :)

Nonsense! Is that something like, that weird and bizarre saying that one needs to stop buying shoes at some point? That phrase makes no sense to me whatso ever. I don't think it's even in English.

Actually, to me, Sunny is the only one out the whole pack that actually looks like a teen in most of the promos. She might be trying to look more edgy and goth, but she still looks like a teen under it all. Good work DD!

Looks 40-ish. But she is probably 20 and is dealing with genetics, which is a crap shoot.

So, we ever going to get a new Laura?

  • sapatsapat Posts: 1,735

Gonna take a pass on Raven. She (to me) looks like another bumble at Daz trying to do yet another teen figure that looks 20 something.  I know tv and movies cast ppl in their 20's for high school kid parts, so it's not unusual.  The Matilda hair looks too close to other bob's I have already. Don't like the promos for kitten dress but the kitten texture add-on has an age appropriate character and they're cute.  Another sci-fi outfit?  Blech....

Def gonna get the skate punk (lots of options), gothy punk, and kitten dress (just to get the add-on textures). Was thinking about Summer. Love her makeup and her sass, but I'd like to see a render of her without Raven if anyone would be willing to do one for us (me) to see.

On the skate punk outfit, anyone know what the deal is with those plastic shiny pants. Looks odd.

Also since I'm here, does anyone know what outfit (or kitbash stuff) is used in the Mood Poses?

Gonna reiterate, Raven alone is a FANTASTIC morph, and Summer's shape is crafted to simply enhance Raven's detailed shape- reshape the eyes and lip, shorten/make the face more youthful, etc. Her morph is definitely best with Raven, since it was made to add to Raven's base. Not all my characters utilize the Daz O shape so completely, but I was very thrilled with the shape Raven's face came with and just had to work with it. :)
Sorry for blurry comp images, I just got back from two days of mountain hiking and I'm exhausted. throwing these renders in for a couple min while i take some tylenol (joints ache like an old lady, Ach!)

And chohole she looks like a teen to me, it just shows how variable teens look anywhere, everywhere.:)

Regardless of what the character looks like, one advantage of designating her as a teen is there less skimpwear in the bundles.

Summer with Growing Up is adorable!

I’m beginning to think these bases are in effect, just that, a base with extreme new morphs that add to the gene pool to create other new morphs that you can dial in and maybe couldn’t have done otherwise. I thought V8 and Stephanie 8 were sooo ugly out of the box, but when added to other characters could look good and PAs (and myself) were able to create great characters adding those character morphs to other morphs, but at full strength, they were pretty hideous. As the Raven promos show, she looks so much better when added at below 50% to other existing characters. It’s kind of like some people like to drink straight vodka, but most like to add a mixer like OJ or cranberry or whatever to make it palatable...

  • Love this character and her included packs and sale bonus...when I saw the character name "Raven" I was hoping for a superhero sidekick suit....or even a straight out Teen Titanish uniform....I am sure one can be kitbashed. Hopefully will see her counterpart and he will get the same attention to detail in character, included packs and sales incentives!!
  • Okay, I will admit my first thought when i saw the name was, hooray, another teen....not so much.  But I love her.  I think she is amazing, and it was a big, fat YES to that buy.  The sale was a wonderful surprise, and hooray, I finally got a purple banner, after picking up a few pro bundles this month.  Sunny is fantastic, and I bought Celeste and Shae as well.   I had a ball picking through the categories to try to match up the amounts correctly, LOL.  Thanks, artists and DAZ!!!

Ugh, she's hideous. The eyes are REALLY bad! I guess it will be a fun challenge to make her pretty. Definitely have to use other eyes, enhance her morph and skin....

When I put the long t shirt on, this happened... It was really weird. The whole top part of the image slowly faded away. When I removed the shirt, the image came back and then the whole top part faded away to what you see again. No clue if the problem is Raven or the T shirt...

I was actually going to write that she looks 17 to me. So I nailed it :D. She also looks like one of my cousins when she was 17, so that helped :).

I've got cousins that very look similar to her since they were 8 years old. I was going to guess 15 though as she seems too energetic to be a working adult yet.  laugh Not because she particularly looks 15 but because you really can't tell without actual things like wrinkles, shaving, balding, body hair and such that most women don't even have to bother with too much anyway, especially with regards to hair. There are tell-tale things like weight creep giving folks 'dumpy' figures but people can have dumpy figures as children too. And the way folk don't work in the sun or play in the sun. I see folks in their 40s and 50s that have hardly a wrinkle nowadays due to lack of being outside, something with my constant play outside I didn't avoid and my parents and just about everyone I know with their childhood of outdoor work even less so. It makes it all the more difficult to guess someone's age. I met a woman oil rig worker when I lived in Texas in her very early 40s that had more wrinkles than my parents. Funny thing was, I never asked her age but I knew she wasn't more than 10 or 15 years older than me.

Personally I find Raven to be my favorite. I also really like Celeste. I am a bit surprised no one has commented on the similarity in looks of Celeste to Cher.
