Hey, but it's punk/gothic theme (which i dont see as often as i always thought... that trend was more present in v3/m3 or early v4/m4 days i think?)

Probably because they sell?  They're definitely trying to spin this one as an "edgy" character and I quite like both the DD Summers character.by Disparate Dreamer and Hinkypunk's Dani.  The Kitten dress, though nice, does seem a bit out of touch with the rest of the package, which is yet more pseudo-goth stuff.

Are there more" authenthic" goth clothes and accesoires for g8f and g6m?

have to date outside of their generation to find a mate within the same age group. I remember when they just about gave Elijah 7 away, and Teen Ryan too. Let's have some more male affirmative action!

ah yeah, need some punk boys now!

Hard to get excited for any of this. If you want a teen so bad, how about looking to other ethnicities a bit? A teen Korean, or Malaysian, or hey, maybe Native American could be quite interesting and every bit as cute (actually cuter considering how Raven looks). Every single character today, from Raven to her bundles and add ons, are all white.

I'll agree to see more ethnic variety from all places of world, but please don't generalize and dismiss "white" as well.

American, French, Irish, Scandinavian, Polish, Russian - all of those are also different and also have right to be represented as characters.

Not even mentioning that regardless of ethnicity, there are also too many variations which  may not be here yet. Some things slowly improving (remember when most characters were "perfect woman from miss america contest"? and no we have much more "natural looking" chars with assimetry, freckles, moles etc.)

    -

    tl;dr not replace, but add!

  • ... Yeah, NO. Daz, if you're going to release yet another female teen character, couldn't you at least change things up and make the base character *not* white for a change?

The fact the discounts are crummy help cinch this as a hard pass for me.

My thoughts: Once again I don’t like the actual character but I do like several of the PA characters based on her. I find her head too big for her body and her face is unattractive. I do like most of the bundle though except for the weird granny dress outfit... There are enough freebies, $20 in each category with purple banner, to make it worthwhile so I guess I will get it although I don’t really need it...

ETA one more con: her eye textures are awful and look really fake

And a pro: she looks a lot less unattractive when mixed with other characters. The other characters added in make her look so much prettier.

But she does not look like a teen to me at all, more like mid 20’s...

I was hoping Raven was going to be a teenage boy for G8M. :<
  • Raven's got an absolutely gorgeous face shape IMO, she's my fav teen/slender shape so far. Fav shape in a while, nice detail. I really think this is one of the Daz shapes that really stand on its own for the morph. :)

    I like her a lot.

  • I don't see the 'Teen' part.  These chicks are 25 @ best.. a couple of them look almost 30.  I find it ironic that the launch page for the whole site starts with  “...accurate character tolerances made Daz a go-to solution on CAPTAIN AMERICA, THOR, and IRON MAN.” .... and yet these characters don't even look 'teen' at all.

I would actually love to see little sisters of Latonya and Mei Lin.

Edit to say I do actually love the clothing sets that were released with Raven.

On a positive note, the more I look at the PA characters, the more I Iike them, so even though I’m not thrilled with Raven herself, I’m looking forward to rendering the other characters. I think the PAs did a great job on this one! But they usually do. I mostly tend to like their characters better than the Daz O they are basing them on lol....

First character in a while, that I consider to buy.

  • A lot of good work in this one, many appealing figures, more add-ons that I want to buy than I need to qualify for the bonus... So much good stuff. A new backpack with the skater girl set! A good looking Sci Fi bodysuit. A nice new fantasy armor in the add ons. Many pretty faces.  So much good in this release.

And most importantly, she's well discounted and comes with a lot of free stuff. EVERYONE can get the pro bundle at the lower end of Daz addict price. (Our banner is extra free stuff this time.)

Non-aesthetic criticism aside, this is a superb release from Daz. A perfect release to capture new Daz customers, I think. Priced right and a lot of free stuff.

Old customers? Same criticisms, barely touching aesthetics of the figure or the bundle components.

Initial thoughts are that I'm not mega impressed with Raven herself; it's possible it's down to the choice of hair or the like, but quite a few of the promos do make her look more like 30 to my eye. (Although possibly some of my bias comes down to being a 30 year old who sometimes gets mistaken for a teenager).

However, she does have some good derivative characters, and I think I'll be able to make use of everything in the Pro Bundle - three plausible contemporary outfits and a not-overly specific sci-fi outfit (along with its texture pack, I could see it being plausible in utopian, dystopian or retro sci-fi) which all avoid being skimpwear, some pretty sensible hairs, and even though I don't normally hugely rate pose packs, there are some fun ideas in there.
I do have similar outfits and hairs already, but it can be pretty useful to have similar sets, as it often looks strange reusing the same outfit/hair on different characters in a scene, even with different textures.

If I don't get frustrated by yet again trying to pick stuff from the irritating multi-category knapsack deals, I'll probably pick her up later.

  • I just want a morph for an extra set of eyes so she can go full Daughter of Trigon, but when I saw Teen Raven, my thought was the Teen Titans character...

  • Knapsack puzzle means no sale as a personal policy of mine.

DAZ wants to make buying from them annoying, there are no shortage of content providers who want my money.

I'm not thrilled with Raven.  DD Summer or Dani is what Raven should have been.  Raven doesn't look like she'd get carded at a bar.  I know the argument is "Some teenagers do look older than they really are."  My counter argument is, "So if I want one of those, I'll just render a character that's supposed to be 25 and say she's actually an old looking teen."

With all the bonuses and the purple bar, I'll probably end up picking up the set but I agree that the lack of diversity is annoying.  On the plus side, the 2 Halloweeny, super white characters look pretty cool.

I remember the days when you couldn't get a content creator to make either a teen, ethnic, or a mature figure.

Guess those characters would sell after all;  contrary to what a LOT of Daz armchair analysists kept insisting.

  • No purple bar for me and the existing sale isn't enough for me.

I think teen raven looks nice. I don't see her as teen though she looks college age to me. The character summer looks younger though. I realize that some teens can look mature but I prefer to buy characters marketed as younger not to be age ambiguous.

I was disappointed with Teen Raven 8's Iray skin implementation; so, I tried using Nix 8's settings on her skin (though I had to decrease the Dual Lobe to 50% (and looks like I need to decrease it a bit more), but she does look more promising with his settings. She could easily have been called Teen Rosita 8. Here are mugshots at default with headlamp of out-the-box and Nix 8 settings, respectively.

What do you refer to as college? in different countries different things are called as college. In France college is more like middle school, while - i guess - you meant place where you study between school and university or instead of university?

Character designers develop characters to look good under many lighting conditions. Since most would never use headlamp to light a scene it would make no sense to focus the time to make it look good under that setting.

Different lights will drastically change how good a skin will look. You new setup boosted the specular, so the headlamp could shine off of it nicer....but under other lights it may not look as good as the default.

Lowest common denominator is not really the best test....character makers who want to make things look good will never shoot for the lowest denominator, or it will look like crap for serious renders.

On the contrary, I have found that the Daz Core skins that look best in most other people's renders, (Darius 6, Mei Lin 7, Ophelia 7, Kimo 7, Kalea 7, Floyd 8, Nix 8, Kala 8, Tasha 8, Bridget 8, Babina 8, Zelara 8, etc.) look great even with the headlamp, which is why I use it for mugshots to weed out the others. Were I a master like yourself, then I could afford to dally with more demanding skins.

I dont see why they try to pass her off as a teen Character. Good character yes, but hardly a teenager. Speaking of Teenagers. I'm making one now right as I am reading this thread. Far from done, but shes looking decent so far... I'm aware some of her proportions are off. I'm still making her.

I am in the us and college typically means 18-100 in age. Although people can enter college younger than 18 that is not the norm.

Some of the teens have looked more like Hollywood "teens" (20-30-somethings, cast in a "teenager" role)...

Raven looks closer to 25 than to 15... but it is what it is.

    thats what i thought too

In the US, "college" and "university" are more or less the same thing, when referring to age. The group of people that go to college and university here are generally in the 17-23 age group, and more conventionally in the 18-22 age group. (There's a difference in what's called a college -- generally, smaller and usually doesn't have graduate schools, but that can vary -- and a university, but the terms are used interchangeably when talking about the people who attend them.)

When people talk about teenagers here, they're generally thinking of people in high school, so typically in the 13-18 years old group. I will say that it's odd (apparently, my word of the week!) that for having four female teenage characters, Daz really doesn't have any at the younger end of that group. In the previous Genesis generations, when they had both Josie and Julie, the difference usually seemed to be that Julie was the younger teen, and Josie was the older, but this generation's Josie, Jane, Kaylee and Raven seem much closer in age.

Angel_Wings, with respect, but this character looks more like a child, maybe because very soft face (i don't find better words, hopefully you understand what i think). I'll also remind of "transitional age" psychological treats like those attempts of "finding yourself" that may lead to joining subcultures (punk, emo, goth etc.) that might also be reflected in character.

Anyway, i was trying to look for some "gothic youth" for comparison reference, dunno if this fits:

Now that looks without a doubt like a teen.
